Jedi/Sith Wars Ahoy

I stumbled across a forum thread that was quite troubling to me and to the team here that could unravel the immersion of SWTOR once it is released. It is the old Jedi/Sith conundrum. How do you get players to want to play anything but Jedi/Sith in a Star Wars universe? It seems that if this one poll thread is right Bioware could have a serious problem trying to convince people to play other classes.

Almost 60% of voters picked Jedi/Sith (at the date/time of posting this) as their class in this poll with over 2200 people voting. It appears that this will be a large hurdle to surmount if this poll is indicative of what people will select when the game finally ships. There is the argument that given time, new classes, and new gameplay content that the poll should even out a bit but I am doubtful that the people who voted for Jedi or Sith will change their class. If anything it is very likely that the percentage of difference between the classes will get even bigger with the people deciding to pick bounty hunters, troopers, and smugglers choosing other classes that are revealed down the line. It seems as if the problem that Star Wars Galaxies had when opening up the Jedi class will be the same problem that Bioware will be confronting with The Old Republic. This is nothing unexpected but it does show that Bioware has a lot of work ahead of them to convince people that the other classes are just as good options for players as the Jedi and Sith classes.
