It's now time for everyone's favorite Mon Calamari.....ADMIRAL ACKBAR (The boogers on his chin are called barbels, all males have them) For everyone out there that wants to be a squid it is now time to talk about it.

Hailing from the planet Dac, Mon Calamari are an amphibious race that evolved alongside the Quarren, as well as others. These sentient neighbors caused trouble for the Mon Calamari as the two cultures are near opposites. There was even a war between the two. The Calamari won by taking some young Quarren and reeducating them before releasing them back to their own side. (Enough of the Quarren, we dont care about them right now because we have not seen any screenshots)

Mon Cal


Mon Calamari are natural explorers and are well cultured. These creatures also are known for military feats and strategy. (After all, Ackbar was the Admiral of the Rebel Fleet) As for the chances of them being in Star Wars: The Old Republic, the odds are high. Their planet was discovered about the time of Revan so they are in the timeframe. The Supreme Chancellor at time of coruscant attack was even a squid. But as always, the best evidence is screenshots. The only one so far is of what appears to be a companion, but that is better than no Mon Calamari at all.

Of course we cant forget the Admiral Ackbar brand of cereal.

    I hope this species is a playable one. I'd role one immediately. It would be doubtful that the race would be playable as a Sith, but the Clone Wars cartoon had a Mon Calimari Jedi, so it has been established that they have force ability. It also appears from the screen shot that they won't be wearing boots throughout the game. Looks a bit odd.

    I'm going to be shocked to see a Mon Calamari walking around in combat gear. Even though I understand they were in SWG, I alway imagined them like Ackbar, walking around in regal or military attire.

    Little contradiction, hehe.

    I'm surprised to hear a Quarren is the current Supreme Chancellor. That's the first non-human Supreme Chancellor I've heard of(it was all humans in the prequels).


    Seems like the lore has kept pushing back when the Mon Calamari were first discovered. In the EU before the prequels, they said the Mon Calamari(and their world) were found just a few years BBY. Then the Prequels showed a Quarren Senator, which pushed back their discovery to sometimes before the prequels. Now TOR has pushed it back thousands of years earlier. Either that or Dak gets sent back to the Stone Age sometime between TOR and the Prequels.

    A Mon Cal was the Supreme Chancellor, not a Quarren. Quarren are just grew up on the same planet. This is a Quarren.

    I know what Quarrenare, but the article above said " The Supreme Chancellor at time of coruscant attack was even a squid." Quarren are Squid-like, not Mon Calamari. Mon Calamari are more like humanoid fish. :)

    Ahh, I use squid and Mon Calamari interchangeably, too used to seafood restaurants.

    Pfft, Quarren have those same eyes. Mon Cals look like all the random bass and trout you see in the ocean. Quarren live on the bottoms of the ocean, the Mon Cals live on the surface.

    A thought occurs that I might be too much of a Star Wars nerd for my own good. :P

    A squid must be the common ancestor of the two. If you look at this image the top half is Mon Cal and bottom half is Quarren.

    You're not the first. I've seen it before, and it's always confusing, since they do share a world with a species whose heads look just like Squid. Makes me wish they'd rename the Mon Calamari to Dak, just like they did to their homeworld(also originally called Mon Calamari).

    I'm tickled pink you linked the robot chicken cut, everytime I see ackbar slap the bowl of cereal onto the floor I can't help but roar with laughter.

    I'd probably be disappointed if the fishmen didn't make it into the game as a playable class.
    That being said.. I'll probably go with a gran - especially if the females have three breasts.

    Loved that skit. As for the Mon Cala, I hope they come with rubber floppy fingers.
