Force Feedback Friday - 10/16/2009

Welcome back to Force Feedback Friday. It's been a fairly productive week in the TOR community, with the release of the Developer Dispatch last Friday and all the speculation and hypothesizing that came along with it. Additionally, we saw a few new community articles this week and got some great comments from all of you. So lets see what everyone had to say, here's Force Feedback Friday for Oct 16th, 2009.

Voice Dissection for "Developer Dispatch - The Making of Coruscant" - Dover

ajaj notices some similar design direction with KOTOR and gets a little nostalgic.
"I noticed in the new video at 4:56 that ship sitting there almost looks like the Ebon Hawk I looked at a pic of the Ebon Hawk at wookieepedia and man they look close theres also another shot from behind the ship in the vid at 5:13. Now im not saying that it is the Ebon Hawk just the familer look of the ship reminds me of the good times in kotor 1and 2" - ajsaid:2009.10.0917:48

Lore Update: Coruscant - Zenkei

avaroAvaro reveals what he's really looking forward to.
"Nice article, regarding the un-answered lore questions. We can always hope we might see the first SW toilet ever" - Avaro said:2009.10.1110:10

Darth Hater Episode 9 - Microtrans-panda? - Sado

blankSztanyi states one of the difficulties with giving players flexibility in a story focused game.
"seeing as how they are trying to pound into our heads that this game is about story, there is no way that i can see them letting gender swaps or faction change That would change the story, and since u cant go back in time that messes up the story.

I honestly dont see any way those 2 things can be in the game" - Sztanyi said:2009.10.1102:34

Community Blog: How will BioWare make the trains run on time? - JimtheJedi

roguejedi86RogueJedi86 let us know how much he enjoys standing in lines.
"I have to say, I actually enjoyed the waits for the Shuttles in SWG and the Airship/Boat in FFXI. In SWG, youd have people actually stand in line to wait for the shuttles, and chat with the guy in front of and behind you. It was only a 5 minute wait between shuttles, but it was just long enough to chat with someone a bit. Id like for TOR to do that." - RogueJedi86 said:2009.10.1212:27

Creature Handler seen in Coruscant Developer Dispatch - Sado

richardRichard reminds us all that Coruscant is where the wild things aren't.
I think that another important point is that this beastie certainly isnt native to Coruscant it had to have come here with its owner. If we saw this on Onderan (where the wild things are) then it would be more easily dismissed as almost certainly an NPC." - Richard said:2009.10.1309:08

Knights of the Old Republic Key Giveaway - Sleeper

Thank you to everyone who signed up for the Knights of the Old Republic Key Giveaway. It was great to see the response from the long term posters, the longer term lurkers, and all of those new to Darth Hater. Hopefully everyone will stick around and help make this the best fan community out there. Good luck in the contest

The Massive World of The Old Republic - Frank

blankBoza gives us a great example of how developers might be approaching MMO design.

"In Damion Schuberts recent lecture during AGDC, he hit on this topic, while indirectly, as well. Heres the quote:

'Schubert drew a parallel to casinos, describing them as a massively multiplayer environment where 70 percent of the revenue comes from the single-player options, like slot machines. And even in that single-player environment, Schubert said casinos have been designed to feel smaller and more social, a lesson MMO games should take to heart.'

While he was addressing the solo vs. group dynamic in his lecture, this quote seems to indicate that he believes an MMO should be massive in scale, but feel smaller in areas to make those areas of socialization important to players.

To me, he hit the nail on the head. MMOs should be massive, but they should also feel comfortable & welcoming where they implement those social game mechanics we all love about MMOs." - Boza said:2009.10.1307:46

Where nobody knows your name. An article about Cantinas. - Xanamiar

ericEric points out a Star Wars game that we all seemed to miss
"Dejarik would be cool to see." - Eric said:2009.10.1422:51

Potential Planets Prioritized - JimtheJedi

blankAxel Larrz is the first to see a big contender in the planet pool we missed.
"Thats a pretty good list, but I think youre forgetting one key planet, and bear with me on this: Geonosis. If youve watched the Timeline on the official site youll see that Geonosis appears more than once during the rise of Mandalor story. It appears as this arena planet, and Im betting that it will be added into the game as some kind of PvP heavy area." - Axel Larrz said:2009.10.1510:26
