The Bounty Hunter

Bounty Hunters are among the most infamous characters in the Star Wars universe. They are mercenaries for hire that don't care who they work for or what they to do, because, in the end, they are only in it for themselves. If you chose to play a Bounty Hunter you will risk your life on a constant basis, all for the thrill of the hunt and the glory of the kill.

"Bounty hunters. We don't need their scum."

- Admiral Firmus Piett

Background

"Core to the entire Bounty Hunter fantasy is this sense of independence. As a Bounty Hunter you are, and always will be, your own person. You start with nothing and work your way up, make a name for yourself and eventually travel in circles with Darths and Moffs, intelligence officers and governors, but you never become one of them. You work for your reasons, do things your way and can become a force of pure vengeance and destruction if crossed. Along the way you build a crew to support your ambitions, make friends or rivals out of the other great names in your field and tend to draw enemies like flies."- Daniel Erickson

The ongoing war with the Galactic Republic has caused the Sith Empire has put up massive bounties against their enemies. Countless Bounty Hunters have headed the call of the Empire and now seek their marked targets with extreme prejudice. These Bounty Hunters come from all races and creeds, with each pursuing his or her targets in their own ways. While some Bounty Hunters work for organizations, some don't; many adhere to the Mandalorian code of honor, others answer only to themselves.

The Sith Empire cares only for those who get the job done, and few individuals have the abilities to deliver on the tasks in which Bounty Hunters excel. The Empire is constantly testing those who manage to complete their bounties. Only the most hardened are able to survive for long in such a competitive and deadly business.

Abilities

Several of the videos produced by BioWare show the Bounty Hunter class. During these videos we have seen a few abilities that this class has to offer. Below you will find a comprehensive list of the abilities that we know, along with a brief summary of their uses.

"1" Shoot - A default shot from the Bounty Hunter's blaster.

"2" Missile Blast - A ranged AOE (Area of Effect) explosion that hits up to 3 targets within 5 meters of each other. Appears to cause no debuffs.

"3" Flamethrower - A channeled AOE cone that stuns the targets that it hits.

"4" Electro-dart - A single target CC (Crowd Control) which causes the target to fall asleep for 8 seconds. Damage will awaken the target.

"=" Death From Above - The Bounty Hunter uses his jetpack to fly above the enemy and rain down blaster fire until your action pool runs dry or you stop.

There is plenty of room for Bioware to expand upon the idea of playing the illusive hunter, tracking and tagging your prey, and we don't yet know the full extent of the abilities that the Bounty Hunter will display. He is a mysterious character and by choosing to play a Bounty Hunter, you follow in the steps of powerful individuals like Boba Fett and Calo Nord. It will be a journey of intrigue and constant danger. Are you up to the task? Because if not, they'll just find someone else who is.

The Bounty Hunter will be my alt, unless I like the class and story more than the Consular...
I'd like to see players scrambling from Hunters after receiving a Death Mark from an Imperial Agent. With the ability to capture (NPCs at least) bounties alive for extra reputation and credits. Tracking other players across the Galaxy in your cloaked ship, waiting for the perfect time to ambush them...oh yeah.
I'd also like the jet-pack to be semi-useful, to get up to a balcony or roof for example, like in the trailer.

Fair enough, but I too very much enjoyed player bounties - they're much more dynamic (and thus potentially more frustrating >.>). Though one of the things that SWG always lacked in this department was a penalty for failing the mission (whilst having a penalty on the target).

I just really hope they still have player bounties. Even if it's a purely opt-in system. Hunting someone intergalactically just seems like so much fun.

I only tried it once in SWG on a very low level bounty, since i didn't progress very far up the BH tree w/ my master rifleman. But it was a blast! Sort of felt bad for the jedi though since it was when they lost XP; but that wont be a problem in TOR.

I want to be one since I have started watching the second season of the Clone Wars. I didnt see the first one, but the main villain is what I imagine they expect the Bounty hunter to act like. The concept art even has his uniform.

I think this game will be the first MMO where rolling alts is something everyone looks forward to instead of something they feel they "have" to. This is as long as it is what BW says which I trust it will be. I get more excited about this game every day!

I know that I will probably end up playing each class. I am looking forward to playing alts as fun and not a chore.

I'm just hoping they give me eight character slots, so I can roll all four Sith classes good and bad.

I would like at least 8, in a perfect world I would say 12 since there are 3 distinct alignments for each class. A neutral character with "neutral" skills could be a very interesting way to go.

I haven't really given much thought to the classes yet. I kind of like to see what all the options will be and hopefully have a better idea of gameplay/mechanics. But the one thing this article indirectly refers to that I think needs a lot more discussion are companion characters and how they will be implemented. I think it will be amazing for solo play, but what incentive is there then for grouping? are they still going to be available in group play wouldn't it become confusing? I think balancing companion characters so that they make the game more enjoyable when you must or choose to play alone, versus making them an incentive to play alone will be a challenge and one I'm interesting to see bioware address.

I feel like the companion characters will end up being similar to the sub jobs in FFXI. The idea is that you have your main job (black mage) and then you choose a subjob (white mage, red mage, etc) that augments your main job. So a Blk/rdm would play slightly different then a Blk/Wht but in the end they are both still black mages. So basically You'll see Jedi with Smuggler companions who play slightly different then Jedi with Trooper companions.

The trick with this (if it's true, which is complete conjecture on my part) is that some combinations do end up being favorable for certain situations. So if you want to PVP then maybe it's better to have a Trooper companion because of the DPS but if you PVE then it might be better to have a Smuggler companion because of better mob management. If this does end up being the case then we very well could see instances where groups look for classes with very specific companion types to fill certain slots.

Total speculation, but it's how I view the possibility. I can't wait for more solid facts so I can actually do a write up on companions, lol.

Nail on the head. But I still have it in my mind that companions in large group (wow numbers 25-40) pvp/pve would add too much junk on screen.

In smaller groups 2-5 they could be an interesting addition though.

As you said, all just moving air/bits until we see some info.
