The Battle of Bothawui: Synopsis

Everyone following Star Wars: The Old Republic has all heard about this planet, now it is time to dive deeper into the lore. I will start with the obvious, Bothawui is the home of the Bothans and the capital of the Bothan sector. We first heard about the Bothan species in Return of the Jedi when many spies died to bring the Rebellion leaked news about the second Death Star. It is this spy network that interests us, because the Bothans have been spies since the Republic has been a republic.
shield generator

The spy network and the location of Bothawui were probably the reasons why the Sith Empire decided that this planet would be on of their first targets. The resulting attack, as seen in the timeline, was reminiscent of the movies. Bothawui has a shield generator on it, so that means that, most likely, "its a TRAP" if you are the attacking force.

(insert internet meme here)

That is precisely what happened, and the Sith fleet was crushed by the Republic hammerhead capital ships. After losing the battle, the Sith regrouped, waited, and attacked once the Republic left for victory parties on Coruscant. The resulting battle ended up foreshadowing the battle of Hoth, as the landing forces were targeting the shield generator. Like the Battle of Thermopylae, a small group of Republic soldiers dug in and held off an onslaught from an overwhelming force. The Republic was defeated, but the Sith Empire suffered so heavily they were unable to keep their spoils against the remaining native population and had to leave Bothawui.

Bothan

Now Bothawui is probably similar to how it is always been, a rock sitting in space with people that kinda look like Joe Camel (Don't smoke kids). Although we have seen Bothans as a playable species before, the ability to visit Bothawui would add another unique world to the lineup. Whether or not the Bothans and their spies will make an appearance in Star Wars: The Old Republic is yet to be confirmed, one way or the other, but it is possible that both the planet and its people could be seen.

I am starting to think that humans will be the only directly playable species, at least in the beginning anyway. But most likely companion characters will be droids, aliens, etc....
I would like to have a little Bothan spy companion that could slice comps and all that fun stuff.

Im kinda stuck on the Bothan Spy idea for the Republic's last class. We already have 2 shooters and the Smuggler is pretty much like a "rouge." But it's a huge possiblity!

Idk if this is just me, but whenever i see words like "Spy network" or "Imperial intelligence" i get all jittery and excited.
I think that if bioware can implant the feeling in us, that at any time, anywhere we may be targets of spies, gathering info on us, tracking us, and getting rdy to send a strike team. I think that if done properly, a spy organization could be a great addition into the game :D
