BioWare Announces All-Star Cast for Mass Effect 2

In a recent press release, EA revealed a list of celebrity voices that will be heard in the upcoming BioWare RPG, Mass Effect 2. The list, after the jump, is comprised of many actors and actresses who have been in video games before, but there are a few standouts as well. Although BioWare remains quiet about who will be voicing characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic, this announcement does express how high profile video game voice acting has become during this console generation.

The game features Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Martin Sheen ("The West Wing", "Apocalypse Now"), 2009 Emmy Award-winner Shohreh Aghdashloo ("House of Saddam"), comedic actor Seth Green ("Austin Powers"), "Chuck" stars Yvonne Strahovski and Adam Baldwin, Keith David("Crash") and sci-fi favorites Michael Dorn ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"), Tricia Helfer("Battlestar Galactica"), Michael Hogan("Battlestar Galactica") and Carrie-Anne Moss ("The Matrix").

With BioWare and LucasArts adding VO fore very character in The Old Republic, we will certainly be hearing voices from a multitude of sources. Some have contended that celebrities' familiar voices break immersion, but when done right their acting experience can add greatly to a game's environment. Who wouldn't want to hear a high quality actor like Patrick Stewart voice a Jedi Master or Christopher Lee voice a Sith Lord? In the end, we'll just have to wait and see if BioWare's celebrity cast will bleed over into their other titles.
