Bestiary: A Guide to the World of Star Wars: The Old Republic

A few months back we compiled a list of creatures seen in the Star Wars: The Old Republic marketing. As more information was released, this list became out of date and in need of a drastic overhaul. With the addition of the Inhabitants section to the HoloNet, we felt now was a good time to take a second look at who or what we may encounter in TOR.

This resource is a work in progress and will be expanded; we do not consider it to be fully comprehensive at this time.

Acklay

Homeworld - Vendaxa
Seen in TOR - Vid Doc 1 at 2:06
These creatures have hard exteriors, with soft bellies and walk on six single clawed legs. Although they live predominately underwater, they are known to hunt on land. With sharp teeth and an aggressive disposition, these creatures are favored for gladiatorial combat.

Bantha

Homeworld - Multiple Worlds, including Tatooine
Seen in TOR - Forum Avatar
Banthas are very large fur-covered beasts. Because they are easy to domesticate they are seen on many planets and are suitable for many tasks. Banthas could also survive in harsh environments and could go without food or water for extended periods.

Chemilizard

Homeworld - Nal Hutta
Seen in TOR - Screenshot
Mutated by the polluted environment of Nal Hutta, these lizards are adapted to their toxic habitat. Little other information is known at this time.

Dewback

Homeworld - Tatooine
Seen in TOR - Screenshot
These omnivorous reptiles are commonly used as beasts of burden due to their relatively docile disposition. Well adapted to the harsh desert climate, Dewbacks are fully functional even under the hot double suns of Tatooine, however they may become sluggish over night due to their cold-blooded nature.

Gundark

Homeworld - Vanqor
Seen in TOR - Inhabitants
Gundark are hulking beasts with nearly hairless skin. They have small back legs and instead use their long arms for running. Their high speed and ruthless brutality make them a prized target for big game hunters. Gundarks rarely leave their nests alone and are usually seen in packs making them even more difficult to take down. The average Gundark's strength is 20 times that of the average human. Gundarks also have a keen sense of hearing making it nearly impossible to successfully sneak up to one undetected.

Hoth Hog

Homeworld - Hoth
Seen in TOR - Hoth planet video
Hoth hogs are rarely seen quadrupeds native to the planet Hoth. These herbivorous creatures are often considered prey to the Gaint Tauntaun and Wampa species of the planet.

Kath Hound

Homeworld - Dantooine
Seen in TOR - Forum Icon
Kath Hounds are carnivorous dog-like creatures native to the planet Dantooine. There is a variation of these creatures with large horns that are considered particularly aggressive. Additionally, domesticated Kath Hounds are known as salkies, making a connection between Kath Hounds and Salky Hounds a distinct possibility.

K'Lor'Slug

Homeworld - Korriban and Hoe'ha'on
Seen in TOR - Vid Doc 1 at 1:55
K'lor'slugs are a carnivorous vermiform that utilize acute senses and a deadly toxin to subdue their prey. They breed quickly with clutches numbering over 300 offspring, each of which is ravenous immediately after hatching. K'lor'slug infestations can be devastating if not immediately dealt with.

Nexu

Homeworld - Cholganna
Seen in TOR - Screenshot, Vid Doc 1 at 1:20, and Developer Dispatch 1 at 3:22
The most common Nexu had two sets of eyes, giving keen sight. Sharp quills, claws and teeth make it a dangerous predator. While they were favored for gladiatorial combat, the Nexu was known to tire easily.

Reek

Homeworld - Ylesia
Seen in TOR - Forum Avatar
Reek are a tough quadruped species. They have three horns on their head, two of which protrude from their upper jaw area. The third horn sits atop their head. Reek are natural herbivores but are sometimes fed meat to make them stronger and more aggressive.

Salky Hound

Homeworld - Unknown
Seen in TOR - Inhabitants
The Republic Military requested the creation of the Salky hound. The Salky Hound is the result of years of cross-breeding of various species of hound to create a vicious beast capable of guarding Republic installations in the Outer Rim. The Salky hound is a quadruped with razor sharp claws, bone-crushing jaw strength, heightened senses, and aggressive tendencies. Controlling a Salky Hound turned out to be impossible for the Republic, so the project was canceled and the Salky hounds quickly found themselves on the black market being sold to criminals.

Tauntaun

Homeworld - Hoth
Seen in TOR - Forum Avatar, Music of The Old Republic @ 1:53
Tauntauns are a species of fur-covered omnivores. They have raptor like bodies and 2 horns protruding from the sides of the skull. They are often used as a pack animal because of easy domestication and a calm demeanor. Although they resemble other reptilian species they are still considered mammals because of their fur-covered bodies, lack of scales, and the presence of mammary glands. The Tauntauns primary predator is the Wampa.

Terentatek

Homeworld - Korriban
Seen in TOR - Concept Art
The Terentatek was created by the Sith to serve one purpose, killing Jedi. The creature is similar in size to a Rancor, and may actually be genetically connected in some way. The primary ability of the Terentatek was its immunity to force powers, making it incredibly dangerous. While nearly hunted to extinction by the Jedi, these creatures seem to have a knack for survival.

Thranta

Homeworld - Alderaan
Seen in TOR - Forum Icon
Thrantas are flying animals of varying size indigenous to Alderaan. Commonly confused with aiwha from Naboo, these matra-ray shaped beasts are use as flying mounts by locals. There are records of Thrantas being transported to Coruscant, however all accounts state they died due to air pollution.

Tuk'ata

Homeworld - Korriban
Seen in TOR - Korriban Screenshot, SW/SI Origin World Video
Massive hound-like creatures, these force sensitive predators are used by the Sith to guard the tombs of the ancient Sith Lords on Korriban. They are known to have three rows of teeth, six inch claws, and two wing-like extensions that function as poisonous stingers.

Vine Cat

Homeworld - Haruun Kal
Seen in TOR - Inhabitiants
These large, savage felines have long, heavy tails that provide extraordinary balance for scaling rocky cliffs and can leap eight meters or more from tree to tree. With large, razor-sharp claws and a ferocious bite, vine cats should never be underestimated.

Wraid

Homeworld - Tatooine
Seen in TOR - Concept Art
Wraid are large pack beasts normally found in groups of two to six members. Popular for big game hunters, these beasts are short tempered and extremely aggressive. A wraid skull is a valuable commodity and this has created a profitable market for this creature.
