Lore Update: Miraluka

In the Star Wars universe, its hard to find a more venerable archetype than the Jedi Knight. One of the species set to appear in this role within Star Wars: The Old Republic is the Miraluka. Although they may be on different sides of the conflict, the Miraluka's mysterious beginnings, mixed human genetics and connection to the Force give them many things in common with the previously discussed Sith Pureblood species. In this article, we delve deeper into the Miraluka species and their impact on The Old Republic.
There is not much information available on the history of the Miraluka species, particularly prior to the Great Sith War. This may be because of the isolation and relative neutrality towards galactic affairs maintained by the Miraluka species as a whole. They adopted the planet Alpheridies as their homeworld after their original world was left uninhabitable due to its atmosphere leaking into space. The sole colony of the Miraluka species, the planet Katarr, was destroyed by the Sith Lord Darth Nihilus in 3,592 BBY. The planet was stripped of all life in an attempt to destroy the Jedi Conclave called to discuss the future of the Jedi Order after the Jedi Civil War.

The Miraluka are a genetically Force-sensitive humanoid species. Very similar to humans, the Miraluka are even able to interbreed with the baseline human species. The signature physical trait of the Miraluka is their lack of eyes. Vestigial eye sockets are all that remain after centuries of adaptation to their homeworld's red dwarf sun, which only emits light in the infrared spectrum. They often adorn their faces with headbands, masks and other similar concealing headgear to hide this fact.

Uncommonly united as a species, the Miraluka refer to each other as "brothers" and consider themselves to be part of a "great family". They worship two gods, Ashla and Bogan, or the light and dark side of the force. Surprisingly, they do not believe in good or evil and accept both life and death.

The Miraluka are extremely Force sensitive. The most obvious incarnation of this is their lack of eyesight. The Miraluka see through the Force. This Force Sight is so powerful it allows them to see a physical manifestation of the Force radiating from Jedi. This allows the Miraluka to distinguish between light and dark aligned force users. The Miraluka are even able to "see through objects such as doors and walls." The powerful Force Sight enhances their other senses and reflexes tremendously. This is demonstrated by their skill in martial arts and with lightsabers.

There is no doubt that the Miraluka are a unique part of the Jedi Order. Their powerful connection with the Force and allegiance to the Republic are sure to affect the overall galactic story. One can only hope the breadth and depth of the story presented in Star Wars: The Old Republic will shed more light on the Miraluka and their history.

Now im just wondering ( actually just registered actually to ask about this/debate about it)

what kind of arguments could a fallen jedi miraluka say to convince there is no evil or good? by using the jedi code with there is no emotion : there is peace - but then again evil doesn't lead to peace?

im just thinking if im gonna RP a miraluka (hopefully there are RP servers...) how am i able to handle this with a light sided point of view & a dark side point of view depending what decisions i want to take with the fellow RP'ers since i take RP'ing seriously..

im kind of confused about this.

other than that, great article, solved some questions i actually didn't know of about the miraluka. If only they also could be with the sith empire i would be sooo happy!
and other this and that before.

    Awesome!

But when I first saw the Miraluka in KOTOR2, I really like the idea of the species. Basically human, but the whole 'force sight' thing is just neat. I hope if you play this race you can customize your 'veil'. I don't think you should be able to take it off, but it would ad more custom flair to your character.

I'd actually think it would be cool if you could elect to take it off. I would be the grizzled warrior who doesn't care at all about appearance and wants to freak out his opponents. But I'd like it to be one of a few dozen options so it's not something that many people would pick, hopefully.

This race always looked really interesting, if i decide to roll a force user i'm definitely picking that race.

Yeah nice update. My alt consular will be miraluka.
  • #12 Whitering
At the present time Mirakula can't be consulars.

My only question is why they're a Knight primary race and not Consular.

"They worship two gods, Ashla and Bogan, or the light and dark side of the force. Surprisingly, they do not believe in good or evil and accept both life and death." - so possibly Miraluka being playable by Sith classes through the legacy system?

"The Miraluka are even able to "see through objects such as doors and walls."" - oh if I had a nickle for everyone that wanted to do that in game...

I am calling wall hacks for sure!!!!!!!!!

    A great read, thank you.

Well, I wish they could be consulars. I don't want to play a human but I don't want to be Mirialan which leaves Twi'lek and I don't like the way the males look which leaves a Twi'lek female. That wouldn't bother me in a single player game, but if you roll a female toon as a guy in MMOs everyone thinks you have an ulterior motive.
  • #19 SithLordOfChaos
Their is nothing wrong with rolling a female if u are a guy. You more than likly like women. Why not play a character you visually like. After all you r going to be playing this game for months.
  • #15 Meglivorn
Not to mention, everybody knows that all girl toons run by a guy in mmos :D (and the fact that I know a lot girls playing doesn't change this.)

Free stuff! And plenty of people to run your errands for you, what's not to love? In DAOC I had my first couple toons as females because I figured if I am staring at someone's butt for hours it damn well is going to be a woman's, but got tired of all the guys thinking I was a chick. So went male toons after that.
