Planets Overview

Planets Overview

The Star Wars galaxy is filled with thousands of planets, from barren wastelands to thriving city-planets. The announced planets for Star Wars: The Old Republic are a well-chosen cross section of this diverse spectrum. While some planets are more politically important than others, each will play its role in terms of both gameplay and story. In this overview, you will find a listing of each planet, its faction allegiance, its terrain, relevant , and a brief look at its history and how the planet connects to the Old Republic timeline.

Tython

Faction: Galactic Republic
Terrain: Mountains, forests
Resources: SWTOR, Wookieepedia

Tython is the starting planet for Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular. It was the home planet of the original Jedi Order, which was formed from the best and brightest philosophers, priests, scientists, and warriors who came together to share their discoveries of the mystical Ashla (light side of the Force). This group became known as the early Jedi, and their initiation ceremony led to the invention of lightsabers. At first, the Jedi believed the Force was limited to Tython only, but it was carried with them as they left Tython. These warriors of the light side of the Force became known as Jedi Knights. After thousands of years of the Jedi exploring and migrating through the galaxy, Tython was forgotten. It was rediscovered during the Great Galactic War by Jedi Knight Satele Shan. After the Sacking of Coruscant, the Jedi Order returned to Tython. The Order, under Grand Master Shan, is now rebuilding its settlements, while also dealing with trouble from a local Twi'lek pilgrim colony and Flesh Raiders.

Korriban

Faction: Sith Empire
Terrain: Sand, rocky desert
Resources: Lore Update, SWTOR, Wookieepedia

Korriban is the starting planet for the Sith Warrior and the Sith Inquisitor. It was the original home world of the Sith species, and is no stranger to war. After being driven out from the early Jedi Order, a group of dark Jedi landed on Korriban, enslaving the native Sith and interbreeding with them. The Sith lords left behind many ruins, including the Valley of Dark Lords -- a valley of tombs for the most revered of the Sith. Force ghosts haunt these tombs, making it a place of great power for the dark side. Over time, the tombs were visited by scavengers looking for relics of both power and credits. Though mostly picked clean, the tombs may still hold secrets for those strong in the Force. The empty tomb of Naga Sadow is located in the Valley of Dark Lords, and is built around a still more ancient Star Map dating back to the time of the Infinite Empire. Korriban was lost to the Sith after a brutal civil war, which was the result of the deaths of both Darth Malak and Master Uthar Wynn, but the Emperor made the planet's recovery one of his top priorities. Reclaiming Korriban as a base, the Sith re-established the Sith Academy to train new Sith recruits to become future rulers of the galaxy.

Hutta

Faction: Neutral
Terrain: Swamp, industrial wasteland
Resources: Lore Update, SWTOR, Wookieepedia

Known as the Glorious Jewel, Hutta is the starting planet of the Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agent. The planet was originally known as Evocar, and was the homeworld of the Evocii. After centuries of business deals, the Evocii mortgaged their entire civilization to the Hutts. When their homeworld of Varl become heavily polluted and uninhabitable, the Hutts collected on the Evocii's debts, becoming rulers of the planet. Millennia later, the Hutts reduced the Evocii to poverty and slavery. Hutta became a key planet to the powerful Hutt families, who remain in constant conflict with one another. The Hutts remain largely neutral in the war between the Republic and Sith, though their crime cartels continually vie for power.
