Lore Update: Sith Inquisitor

Sith Inquisitors "believe the order of the universe belongs to them." This observation by Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas is perhaps the most suitable key to obtaining a better understanding of these members of the Sith Empire. For millenia, the Inquisitors have wielded the dark side to alter their environment and even the course of history. Their use of Sith magic and their powers of concealment impact many political situations in the galaxy, including the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant. By taking a closer look at the history behind these deceptive and powerful individuals we can gain a greater appreciation for how they will effect the galaxy in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Ancient Alchemy

Sith sorcery reaches all the way back to the ancient Sith race. These early dark side users practiced a mystical art the commoners simply called "magic" to conjure items and creatures out of nothing. These powers appeared vastly different from a simple Force push or even Force lightning. The wielder used a combination of complex hand gestures, incantations and Sith artifacts imbued with the dark side. Using these ingredients, a Sith Sorcerer was able to perform any number of amazing feats. They could use the dark side to heal their companions and even protect them against their foes. Perhaps the most stunning and satisfying ability was to invade an enemy's mind with visions of terrible beasts, sending the victim into madness.

The earliest known Sith Sorcerer was the great Naga Sadow. Sadow was a Pureblood Sith who became a master of Sith Magic. After his death, his spirit waited patiently for 600 years until the fateful day when another Sith Lord came to release Sadow's dark power. Fate finally lead the fallen Jedi student Freedon Nadd to Yavin IV, where he discovered the resting place of the long-dead Naga Sadow. Upon his arrival, Nadd immediately discovered the fruits of Sadow's studies when the ancient Sith's mutated Massassi attacked him.

Naga Sadow's spirit awoke and passed all of his knowledge on to Freedon Nadd, who used his new control over alchemy to lay siege to the planet Onderon, where he spent the remainder of his life. His desire to force his will upon the galaxy refused to die with him, however. One of his descendants, King Ommin, called upon Nadd's spirit, and the ancient Sorcerer had his way once more. Nadd did not stop with Ommin's death; his spirit waited patiently for one who would have a much greater influence on the dark side as a whole: Exar Kun.

A New Force

During the Jedi Civil War, Sith Inquisitors took on a different guise. This new group of Sith Assassins was initially formed by Darth Revan on Malachor V and was based out of the Trayus Academy beneath the planet's surface. Their task was simple but devastating, to both the Jedi and to the Galactic Republic. Working from the shadows, Assassins used either a stealth field generator or the Force to camouflage their presence from their targets. This ability allowed them to sneak up to their prey, where they could carry out their execution with ease and anonymity. They specialized in melee combat, often using a force pike or double-bladed lightsaber to strike down Revan's enemies.

The Sith Inquisitors used the Trayus Academy to train Force-Sensitive Sith troops and break captured Jedi. They used torture and the dark side of the Force to mold these fallen Jedi into more Sith Assassins, further depleting the Jedi ranks while simultaneously expanding their own. Following Revan's redemption and disappearance into the unknown, Darth Traya rediscovered Revan's academy and used it to further build the Sith Assassin ranks. She then joined forces with Darth Sion and Darth Nihilus, who led their Assassins in bringing about a Jedi Purge that all but wiped out the last of the Order following the end of the Jedi Civil War.

Working for a Darker Future

The Sith Inquisitors of the Great Galactic War follow the examples that Exar Kun and Darth Traya's assassins left behind in the history books. Using stealth and deceit, they strike out from the shadows to corrupt the Galactic Republic and bring about their Emperor's will. They are on a constant journey, seeking to further their own knowledge of the dark side of the Force. Studying their ancient predecessors and collecting every last Sith artifact, they are determined to gain personal power while bringing the glory of the Sith Empire back into the galaxy.
