The Lost Suns Part 5 Dissection

The fifth and final issue of The Lost Suns, a comic book mini-series based upon Star Wars: The Old Republic, was released this week. The story picks up where it left off in the last installment, with Theron Shan and Jedi Master Ngani Zho attempting to destroy the Imperial Sun Razer superweapon factory.

Editor's Note: The following dissection includes several plot spoilers.

Dissection

  • The story opens with Theron, Master Zho and Teff'ith discussing the plan of action: Zho and Teff'ith are to cause a distraction while Theron heads to the control room.

  • Theron explains that the very nature of the Sun Razer leaves it vulnerable to sabotage. Simply lowering its shields will cause the nearby sun it is leeching its power from to destroy the Sun Razer.

  • Master Zho feels a disturbance in the Force and believes that Darth Mekhis is aboard the station.

  • Before they go their separate ways, Master Zho hands Theron his lightsaber and explains that it is his legacy. Theron reluctantly accepts the unfamiliar Jedi weapon.

  • Teff'ith and Zho encounter a patrol of troopers and easily dispatch them, but not before they've sounded the alarm, effectively putting the planned distraction in motion.

  • Theron uses a ventilation shaft to drop into the control room, taking out several guards before being overwhelmed by the Force lightning of Darth Mekhis and several of her Sith Knights.

  • Meanwhile, Zho and Teff'ith fight their way into the space station's hangar. Zho uses the Force to shut and secure the door to the hangar, buying them some time against the patrols sent to deal with them.

  • After some time, the Imperial troopers manage to blast their way through the door, unleashing a barrage of laser fire into the hangar.

  • Master Zho pushes Teff'ith out of the incoming fire and takes several blasts.

  • Back in the control room, as the Sith Knights are about to execute him, Theron calls out to Darth Mekhis.

  • Theron taunts Darth Mekhis with the mention of his mother, Satele Shan, and how she had defeated the Sith Lord on Rhen Var years earlier.

  • Darth Mekhis approaches Theron for a closer look, while Theron continues to challenge her and quietly readies the lightsaber Zho gave him.

  • Just as Mekhis realizes that Theron is not a Jedi, Theron unleashes a tranquilizer dart from his wrist that strikes Mekhis in the neck, rendering her unconscious.

  • Theron then quickly overwhelms the remaining guards and adjusts the Sun Razer's controls, deactivating the heat shields that are protecting it from the nearby star.

  • As the Sun Razer begins to explode, Theron manages to reach the hangar and leap onto the ship as Teff'ith flies away.

  • Teff'ith explains that Master Zho was killed jumping in front of the blaster fire.

  • Theron makes a deal with Teff'ith to drop her off at the next port provided he never sees her again, agreeing to overlook the criminal charges that caused him to detain her in the first place.

  • Back on Coruscant, after spending a week recovering from his injuries, Theron meets with his SIS superior to discuss the situation.

  • Theron's superior says Darth Mekhis has not been seen since the Sun Razer's destruction, leading Republic intelligence to believe the other Sun Razers will not be able to be completed without her.

  • However, the superweapons that had been completed before the Sun Razer's demise are still out there as a threat.

  • The SIS official refers to a "specforce incident" involving Darth Angral, but points out that Theron's actions may have started an all-out war.

  • Theron hands over some details on one of the new superweapons, the Gauntlet, for further review.

  • The scene shifts to Tython, where Theron visits Satele Shan.

  • Theron explains that he came in person to let Satele know that Master Zho "died well, as a Jedi."

  • Satele sadly recalls her first Master and explains that he always made her proud.

  • Master Shan asks Theron about Master Zho's lightsaber. Theron explains it was lost in the chaos of the Sun Razer's destruction.

  • Before Theron leaves, Master Shan asks his name. Theron replies that his name is classified information, and departs without revealing himself to his mother.
