Character Creation Walkthrough

With the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic right around the corner, our video content is in the process of ramping up. As you may have seen already, we conducted streams of end-game flashpoints, operations, warzones and more over the last couple of weeks. As part of this, video content will make its way to our Youtube account and to the front page quickly in the coming days. In one of our pieces, we walk players through the character creation process and give a detailed look at the various options players will have on launch day. With testing servers now down, this may be the last chance for players to decide on character creation options.

I enjoyed this walkthrough. And even know I wont be playing one, I think it would be nice to see some more Lekku options for the Twi'leks.

They changed the walking/running animation for the female body type 3 (muscular), which was something I was wanting since she walked/ran exactly like the male before. However, I noticed with my BT3 female BH last build that her left arm moved stiffly at her side and clipped badly into her hips and thigh when walking, so it still needs tweaking. I did not try the female body type 4 much these last two builds, so unless it was an extremely subtle change, I saw no difference with that shape.

Republic side cybernetics where changed and looked much better (especially the eye implant). Bounty hunter humans get some really nice face paint options that I wished were available for the cyborg “race” as well. Some of the racial abilities are still lackluster head scratchers, though. The cyborg’s scanning ability, however, is one of the few I liked and works well with the Trooper, Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agent. Sadistic sith pureblood players will enjoy their racial (if they play a warrior and run around with Vette).

The Character Creator and general character design are still one of the more disappointing aspects of SWTOR for me, however, despite the minor improvements made.

Body 3 for tanking for me and body 2 for healing classes. :D

I'm going type 4 body all the way for my Sith Inquistor.  I like how they made type 4 slightly fatter from earlier builds of the game.  They started out as a pro-wrestler but now they look like a pro-wreslter who has really let themselves go.  Maybe they stopped taking the steriods and started focusing on family or something like that.

Or, you just changed resolution :p

I think they should remove the cyborg as a seperate species and add cybernetics as a customisation option for all species (within reason).

I think they should give Cyborg a Holonet Inhabitants page by now. It's the worst kept secret of TOR, all through the NDA'd beta and beyond. The devs have technically confirmed them, but not in any official ways you'd see on the official site. I kept thinking it was because it'd be dropped or maybe to apply to all races, but it seems not, at least in the beta weekends. Giving them their own distinct social racial(distinct from humans) seems to have nailed that coffin.

well they ould go SWG for character creation...just a lisence from LA... and would make everyone happy... the only complain i realy have is face hair (beards) for miraluca and i would be ok :P

It's really a shame that there aren't more body types on the male characters.  The options present range from "nearly-dead skinny" to "nearly-dead fat" with only "almost normal" and "I used to take steroids, but then decided to work on being body type 4 instead" filling in the middle.

A couple more physique options would make me a happy gamer.

Now I'm jealous!  Sith Warrior cybernetics look cooler than Smuggler cybernetics (conversely, Smuggler cybernetics are just that much worse.  Ugh.  All I wanted was a one-sided eye-only bit of face machinery, but the chin or nose or forehead stuff is required if you want to do anything else)

Here I wanted my Smuggler to be something more unique than Human...but without Rodians, I guess I'll just try and make him look like myself.

I noticed some options changed from the 11/11 beta to the 11/25 beta.  Some complexions shifted, and  I remember specifically Twilek skin color choices went from 8 as in this video down to 6.  Scars were class specific as well and some new patterns showed up for the inquisitor.  Still quite a few options to choose from but in some cases less than before.

No comment on how each class cyborg all get different cybernetic options. Smuggler looks different from trooper looks different from sith war and so on.

When I played beta i rolled a trooper cyborg and the cybernetics options were slightly different, not sure if it is faction based, but i saw another comment that said agent and warrior had differences as well

I used to use Body Type 4, but then I took an arrow in the knee...
