Companion Profile: Corso Riggs

Smugglers have a reputation for relying more on finesse than sheer brawn. They use their wits and clever tactics to get the upper hand and usually try to avoid going toe to toe with enemies. In Star Wars: The Old Republic smugglers have the luxury of letting a companion character fill the role of attracting attention and absorbing damage. Corso Riggs is a loyal soldier who meets all challenges head on. Corso knows his job and does it well, allowing the smuggler to stealthily do what they do best.

Overview

Codex Entry (link)

Corso Riggs is a cheerful, disarmingly optimistic mercenary soldier. Raised as a rancher's son on the rough frontier of Ord Mantell, Corso developed a mixture of naive innocence and primitive toughness, wrapped with old-fashioned chivalry. In addition to his gung-ho enjoyment of a good, dirty fight and his encyclopedic knowledge of weapons, Corso remains a ray of sunshine in even the worst circumstances. He has no sense of his own mortality and is absolutely convinced he's going to live forever. Corso also has a soft spot for damsels in distress, even when it's clear they're up to no good.

  • Likes: Protecting the weak, being nice to ladies, punishing bad guys
  • Dislikes: Hurting for profit, hurting women no matter what they did, working with Sith or Imperials
  • Primary Stat: Aim
  • Secondary Stat: Endurance
  • Primary Weapon: Blaster Rifle or Blaster Pistol
  • Secondary Weapon: Shield Generator

Role

Corso fills the role of tank, which complements the smuggler class well. He is equipped with heavy armor to absorb damage and has abilities that cause enemies to focus their attacks on him rather than the smuggler. For players who choose the Scoundrel Advanced Class with a focus on healing, Corso does a very good job of attracting attention, dishing out steady damage and holding aggro while he receives heals. When paired with a Gunslinger Advanced Class, enemies will drop quickly and rarely threaten Corso's health.

Abilities

Corso Riggs has some basic abilities that allow him to fill his main role as a ranged tank. Guard Stance increases the threat he generates, helping to keep enemies attacking him. Charged Shot and Frag Grenade are among his damage dealing abilities. EMP Blast is an area of effect attack that will generate threat to all targets it hits.

Gear

Corso wears heavy armor and uses blaster rifles or pistols. While progressing through the story and completing missions, several items specifically intended for Corso will be given as rewards. Some of these are of the cosmetic variety, such as his Arctic gear set or Hunting Outfit, which provide the same stats but different appearances; others are progression items, giving obvious upgrades along the way as the player levels up. Gear specifically intended for a companion is easily recognizable, as the items' names will contain the companion's name.

Companions are not limited to only wearing gear that is specifically designed for them. Corso can be equipped with any gear he meets the requirements for. As a smuggler limited to wearing medium armor, receiving heavy armor as a reward or random loot drop no longer means it's instantly irrelevant. Players are no longer just worrying about their own gear, but their companion's as well.

Level Armor Weapon Shield Generator
 9 Corso's Armor Coros's Basic Rifle Corso's Shield Generator
20 Corso's Reinforced Armor Corso's Reinforced Rifle Corso's MI-53 Shield Generator
35 Corso's Durasteel Armor Corso's First-Rate Rifle Corso's WT-91 Shield Generator
50 Corso's Nova-tech Armor Corso's Masterwork Rifle Corso's XR-70 Shield Generator

Appearances

The default appearance for Corso Riggs has him with thick dark hair pulled back into a ponytail. An origin planet quests rewards a choice of appearance kits for him. One of these gives Corso a more "clean cut" appearance, with a slightly different complexion and a short conservative haircut. Corso has several customization kits available, though we will have to wait until launch to see the details of each.

Gifts

As a proud solider, Corso has a strong appreciation for the gear that makes him what he is. When choosing gifts for Corso, consider pieces related to military training, exotic or decorative weapons and armor and items of Republic history. Corso has a strong sense of justice and a law-abiding nature, so illegal substances or items obtained through shady methods are not going to impress him. He also has a strong dislike for anything related to the Imperial enemy.

I'm kind of shocked to see all the comments hating on Corso and his comments. I've played all of the classes up well through the first companions and he is by far one of my favorite ones. If you want a truly annoying companion roll a Sith Warrior, because Vette is the most annoying companion, LOL!

If you hate Corso's comments then stop playing the game or at least don't ever roll another class because out of all the classes I've played (all in the game except two) his comments are the LEAST annoying.

"Now you're dumb, ugly AND dead!" That's just funny. How does anyone not like that one?

Corso is the romance option for the female smugglers.  It takes quite a while before you get to the courtship phase with him, as he's pretty shy. :p

Well, I happen to like Corso and his comments.  They go along with his farm-boy upbringing, lend a nice sense of realism to the game, and he's a big help in a battle.  I think the other guys are just afraid that Corso is going to steal the women away!   :-)

I think Corso's okay. I use his harpoon all the time (insert sex joke here):

    • stealth in and cc one dude
    • hit 2nd dude with DOT
    • Corso grabs him and pulls him away and starts to beat him up
    • I cycle through the rest of the mob and put dots on them
    • then I kill off the harpooned dude if he's still up
    • then put shrap bomb down on the rest of the mob.
    • Usually by then the only guy left is the sleepy one, so we kill him and on we go.

I do wish he would shut up, I've taken to summoning him only when needed, and it's annoying having to deselect his harpoon shot each and every time.

Like Jatt2613 said the harpoon can be annoying. I actually had some problem when in a party with a Jedi Guardian. But when turned off it went well. But when I'm in combat I send him first so I don't get the mob right on top of my head.

My smuggler's personality when he's flirtatious with beautiful women really works well since I get approval every time. Smile

I really hate his Harpoon Shot ability. I'm a gunslinger. I want enemies at range. And he insists on pulling them right next to me. The worst part is that, even though I can turn it off so that he doesn't use it, for some reason right now his abilities reset every time he goes on a crew skill mission or sells my grey items and I either have to remember to turn it off again or the next battle he's pulling people on top of me. Plus, it also for some reason won't let me move his abilities around either within his own bar or put them on my bars, so I always have to click the expand bar button, turn it off, and then close his bar. Gets annoying real fast when you have to do that every few minutes,

You can send him away.. that's what I did after a few minutes with him. I love the smuggler but I really hate Corso..

There should be a way to mute him.. this or I play solo till I get the next one..

While corso riggs may be annoying. I believe the smuggler has the best overall companion team. I mean he's got a Wookie, a bounty hunter and a Mon Calamari (Who'll surely be able to detect traps!).

On a side note. I just realized how much time you'll need to put into gear management. You got your own character (14 slots), 5 companions + ship droid + hk51 droid + ship components. That's a lot of gear for 1 character. Can you imagine when people start having multiple alts... it boggles the mind.

I could write an essay, but short and sweet: I hated his personality and voice, but I loved going into combat with him because he synergized perfectly with my gunslinger.

Played a female smuggler during the beta and love Corso, as usual what one person love another loathe   =)    smuggle will be the first class that I play live and Corso is one of the reasons to be honest.

I get so annoyed with his comments during battle and gameplay.

Love Corso! I feel like he's one of the best romances for a female PC on the Republic side.  If you're romancing him, he will also accept courtship gifts.

Corso Riggs is the reason that I wish there was a way you could ignore-list companions.
