Open Forum: Future Content

After two months past the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic, it is fair to say we can and should start thinking towards future content. With patch 1.2 on the way, we wanted to get a sense of what the community at large thinks BioWare’s focus should be on content going forward. It has been quite a while since we have done an open forum and figured there is no time like the present to bring it back, albeit temporarily for this discussion. In the comments section, let us know what you think. Keep the opinions constructive and do not flame your peers. We will moderate accordingly.

Next week’s podcast will feature a few of the comments as well as a discussion around the area that received the most remarks.

There are some things I would love to see:

    • Punishment for leaving a Warzone early
    • 1-2 More smaller Instances like BT
    • Customizable gear to make you look more unique
    • Combatlog. I want to analyse where I make mistakes!
    • Make armstech be of any use again. It's just bad right now.
those would be my biggest complaints right now.

You already get punished for leaving a Warzone: you literally get zero points for the match, as everything is calculated at the end.

Lets be honest here, too: the people that are leaving probably aren't people you want on your team anyways.

The biggest valid criticism of the game imo is that from 1-50 the game is immersive, story driven and arguably distinct from the competition. At level 50 you have your standard MMO dailies + instances + pvp.

Personally I've been surprised how much I've enjoyed the warzones and thats kept me logging on to my 50 operative medic day after day. But going forwards if they're going to retain a somewhat jaded MMO fanbase in the long term it feels to me like they need to do endgame in a different way to other games, besides just having an aggressive content cycle, as great as that is if they keep it up.

I can't come up with a simple suggestion for fixing this - the chat about GW2 illustrates the desire among MMO players for something different. The story is a big seller but unfortunately offers minimal replayability for the work put in creating the content. The legacy system is a big opportunity to create a huge motivation for every kind of player to work towards something really rewarding. Fleshing out the social/codex/space combat systems would also encourage the casual player who aren't as interested in pvp and ops (of which there are plenty in my guild at least).

    Open World PvP.

Ilum needs to be more dynamic than flipping a few hills, picking up crates, and slideshow group battles when numbers actually show up. I'm afraid that's a tall order though at this point, especially the latter. There are 17 planets and only 1 zone is intended to have world PvP, and they couldn't even get it right. The failure of Open World PvP is what ultimately lead me to cancelling my subscription.

If BioWare could get it right I would more than gladly return to the game in an instant. Unfortunately, I don't think this is a game where Open World PvP can work, at least not in the foreseeable future.

Oh I did forget to mention:

    - a cross server LFG, yes I know wow has one but honestly it just works

    - dual advance spec, again I realize wow has one but it would greatly assist with the issue of finding a tank or a healer when you need them

Neither please. Especially on the advance spec issue, please remember that wow doesn't allow you to change from warrior to shaman.

Personally, I'm sick and tired of looking all day on my Sawbones for a HM only to never actually find one.

Something's wrong with the system when a healer can't find a group.

I realize this has been mentioned many times before, but I feel it needs to be said again. Guilds need attention, guild banks at the very least though guild capital ships would be a great place for a variety of things.

On the topic of guild capital ship mixed with some improvements on ship combat I would say a cool idea would be a mixed pvp combat zone. Using the capital ship idea the pvp zone 1st stage would be a direct capital ship to capital ship combat. Picture rain of fire via massive capital weapons, and more importantly with the rain of capital fire all around you as players your 1st mission would be to defend your capital ship against incoming enemy fighter missiles and opposing factions ships (ship to ship combat).

Phase 2, with one capital ships exterior defences down (imperial or republic) one side goes on the defensive while the other the offensive. The attacking side would begin boarding raids, working together to hold key points on the opposing ship against the opposing faction to attempt to gain control over the ship. The defending faction would work together to defend key points to maintain control over the ship.

Win option for the defending faction, hold control over key points of the ship long enough to have the ship enter hyperspace, escape to fight another day. The win option for the attackers, assault the opposing factions key points and defenders, with a goal to scuttle the ship one less enemy ship  to support the opposing factions war efforts.

Ok thats my two cents for now.

I've always wanted this, would be an awesome type of Warzone that would really motivate Guilds to PVP

For new future content, I’d like to see:

        1. New flashpoints
        2. New operations
        3. New solo content with story
        4. New playable races and the option to switch your race at level 50 as a legacy reward
        5. New companion characters
        6. An achievement system that you can easily track your progress on and get titles and other rewards from
        7. New and better looking moddable gear.  Thinking specifically of the Jedi Consular here.
  • #35 DrCrowbar

All I want on my Shadow is something that looks casual.  If I don't want to look like a Jedi, I shouldn't have to look like a whore to achieve that.

Generally speaking, I would like to see some love sent the way of world pvp...and by that I do not mean Ilum.  I leveled to 50 and ran into ONE enemy player the entire way through.  I'm on a medium-heavy population PVP server, so needless to say I'm still shocked at how that happened...but then I looked around at how on-rails the questing progression is and it's kinda disappointing.

Then again, the inefficiency of the game's engine doesn't help for promoting world pvp.  Poor thing starts choking once it's more than a dozen vs. a dozen...and no, it isn't due to my PC being a turd.

Something i wish other MMO's would just straight down STEAL from wow is Reputations. The one thing that really kept me going in the low periods of wow was reputation. Some very easy to get, some required a bit of work and some were insanely hard to get.

And with so many differant races and groups as in the star wars lore this would be a perfect place to get a system like the reputation system in wow.

  • #10 Kazgrel

As someone with 60 exalted reputations on my main wow character, this is something I would rather not see brought into TOR.  The rep grinds are the ultimate in making me (and many others) hate our OCD tendencies, lol.

  • #23 JediExcel

I like the concept, but I hope we would avoid the grindy aspect of WoW and being exalted with everyone.

Such a concept should perhaps be tied to reponses with quests, choosing to destroy X might give you bonuses to one faction, while choosing to save lives instead might give you benefits with another.

"Exalted with everyone" should be avoided.  Factions that are opposed will not like a character's aiding the other.
