UPDATE (4/20/12): No new mission was added today, and as the complete Containment Officer gear set can be acquired through the previous days' quests, it appears that all of the missions associated with the event have been released as of 4/19/12
UPDATE (4/19/12): A new mission [DAILY] Newly Infected was added today and awards a fifth piece of the Containment Officer set (chest OR belt).
UPDATE (4/18/12): A new mission [DAILY] Pure Virus Sample was added today and awards a fourth piece of the Containment Officer set (helmet).
UPDATE (4/17/12): BioWare reveals the end date of the Rakghoul Outbreak as April 24th at 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST).
UPDATE (4/17/12): A new mission [DAILY] Hybrid Strain was added today and awards a third piece of the Containment Officer set (legs). A small patch was also implemented to address the issue some players were having with the Urtagh world boss Codex entry, preventing them from receiving the event title:
An issue that prevented players from receiving the final Codex entry for the event has been corrected. Players that previously defeated Urtagh but did not receive the Codex entry and associated title will need to defeat the boss again in order to obtain it.
UPDATE (4/16/12): A new mission [DAILY] Passenger List was added to the event today and awards a second piece of the Containment Officer orange gear set. The game files list a total of 6 pieces in this set and if the pattern of adding one additional quest per day with an additional piece of Containment gear as a reward continues, we can assume the Rakghoul Pandemic event will last through at least Friday, 4/20/12.
In case you missed the news, the first ever Star Wars: The Old Republic world event went live on servers yesterday and as of this writing, continues in full swing. A Rakghoul pandemic has erupted amongst the sands of Tatooine and threatens to spread rapidly throughout the galaxy, or at least your local faction fleet station. If you've noticed players standing in close proximity to one another exhausting toxic fumes and exploding in a violent green mess of gooey bio-contamination, you've had your first taste of this limited-run outbreak without ever having to leave the comforts of your sterile high-orbit social hub. But if you've yet to hop in your starship and make the run to Tatooine, now's the time before the curtains close on this most virulent occurence and all the fun goodies (and world PvP!) that come along with it. Oh, had I not yet mentioned the Black-Green color crystals, Rakghoul pets, title, Containment Officer gear and new infected companion customizations? Well, read on for everything you need to know while the getting's still good.

General Information
Players' first clue as to the developing plague on Tatooine comes via a number of newly added interactive objects at the four major intersections of their fleet station's outer ring. On clicking, a brief cutscene relays a news broadcast of reports concerning an emerging Rakghoul pandemic on the planet, a warning to stay away, and not much else. To get in on the action, you'll just have to go have a look for yourself. And don't worry, you didn't miss a quest to get started. They're all on Tatooine.
How to Get Started
- Travel to Tatooine
- All of the quests related to the event are "discovered" as opposed to received from an NPC or mission terminal
- There are two general areas of action; traveling to each of them will discover one respective quest
- Wreck of the Stardream (located at coordinates -802, 455) - in the northeast corner of The Dune Sea subzone: discover [DAILY AREA] Wreck of the Stardream
- Eastern Wound (located in the general area of coords 1956, 438) - immediately southeast of Outpost Largona (Republic; please verify that area is same for Imperial in comments): discover [DAILY AREA] Outbreak
- Additional quests will become available both through items looted during these missions and via clickable quest objects
Rakghoul DNA Samples - What and How?
- Rakghoul DNA Samples are the currency of the Rakghoul Pandemic world event. They are tradeable and are currently fetching 10k - 20k each on most servers
- They can be redeemed to the Jawa trader Jeelvic, north of the Wreck of Stardream in The Dune Sea, for Black-Green crystals, a Rakling pet and random infected companion customizations
- They can be obtained one of two ways: A) x4 as a quest reward for completing a [DAILY], or B) x5 for dying to the Rakghoul infection (much more efficient means of acquisition)
- Most players are currently farming these via the death-by-infection method
- Fight various infected mobs until you receive the debuff "Lightheaded" (actual Rakghouls seem to have the highest rate of infection)
- After 10 minutes "Lightheaded" will progress to the debuff "Feverish"
- Once "Feverish", it's only a matter of time (another 10 minutes; thanks user BinaryHappy) before you explode into a grizzly puddle of green goo and die, collecting x5 Rakghoul DNA Samples in the process
- Rinse and repeat
- A lot of players are doing this in the fleet to complete the [DAILY] Plaguebearer at the same time, where you need to infect x10 other players through explosive goo-contact. If you're just farming the DNA Samples, it's more time efficient to do it on Tatooine where you can quickly reapply the "Lightheaded" debuff to yourself after death. (Pro Tip: Exploding does not cause gear damage; thanks user BinaryHappy!)
- Also note that moving between zones effectively resets the timer on the plague, increasing the time required to move into the next phase of infection:
Please note that switching areas, etc. will reset the timer on the plague's current phase. So if you keep travelling, you ward off the progress of the plague.
World Event Bosses
- There are three world "boss" mobs of various difficulty associated with this event. Killing each will award an associated Codex entry; all three are required to earn the "Containment Officer" title
- There are no associated quests for killing the event bosses
- Note: the Codex entry for Urtagh was bugged for some players and not awarded. This was patched on 4/17/12, but you'll have to kill him again
- Urtagh - A level 50 infected Bantha located in Outlaws Den (at approximate coordinates -54, -1005), in the Jundland subzone, Outlaw's Den: 10-20 players recommended
- Infected Trapjaw - A level 30 infected mob located in Trapjaw's Bite (at approximate coordinates (-1789, -901), in The Dune Sea subzone: summoned by clicking the "Interesting Looking Skull"
- Zama Brak - A level 50 Rakghoul located east of the Sarlacc Pit (at approximate coordinates (-1233, -2069), in The Dune Sea subzone, east of Sarlacc Pit; summoned by clicking the "Crashed Escape Pod": 8+ players recommended
Pets
- There are two pets associated with the event
- The Crimson Rakling is a reward for completing the long Tracking the Origin mission (see below for a walkthrough)
- The Pale Rakling is a purchasable item from Jeelvic, the Jawa trader vendor north of the Wreck of the Stardream, costs 60 Rakghoul DNA Samples
Titles
- There is one title associated with the event, "Containment Officer" (this was bugged for some players, but patched 4/17/12)
- To earn the title, you must discover 8/9 Codex entries associated with the Rakghoul Pandemic event. Earning the title grants you 9/9 Codex entries
- You must defeat each of the three world event bosses (1 Codex entry each, 3 total), plus the missions [DAILY AREA] Wreck of the Stardream (2 Codex entries), [DAILY AREA] Outbreak (2 Codex entries) and Tracking the Origin (1 Codex entry)
Companion Customizations
- There is one new infected companion customization for each companion character in the game
- The companion customizations are Bind on Legacy and can be traded to other characters on your account
- They can be found inside Infected Companion Lockboxes, purchased from Jeelvic, the Jawa trader vendor north of the Wreck of the Stardream, costs 20 Rakghoul DNA Samples
- Each Infected Companion Lockbox contains 1 random companion customization
Black-Green Crystals
- There are 8 new Black-Green color crystals associated with the event
- Each can be purchased from Jeelvic, the Jawa trader vendor north of the Wreck of the Stardream, for 75 or 83 Rakghoul DNA Samples, depending on item level
Containment Officer Gear
- As of Monday, 4/16/12 there are TWO pieces of orange Containment Officer gear available as quest rewards
- The first piece, Imperial/Republic Containment Officer Boots, are a reward for completing [DAILY] Blood Sample and were available day one of the event
- The second piece, Imperial/Republic Containment Officer Gloves, are a reward for completing [DAILY] Passenger List and were added, along with the mission itself, on day two of the event
- There are a total of 6 pieces of Containment Officer gear listed in the game files (Chest, Legs, Helmet, Boots, Globes, Belt)
- Assuming additional missions are added following the same pattern, an additional piece of Containment Officer gear should become available each of the next four days
Quest Walkthroughs
Tracking the Origin
- This mission involves a lot of travel and culminates in receiving the Crimson Rakling pet as a reward
- Begins in either Anchorhead (Republic) or Mos Ila (Empire)
- You need to find three separate blue clickable mission objects within your faction's town, and click all of them within 10 minutes start to finish (each gives a distinct buff lasting 10 minutes; you need all three simultaneously) to receive the second part of the mission
- The Emergency Notice Terminal (receive buff "Informed") - on the wall directly outside of the Spaceport - Republic: ( 1722, -3426 ) Imperial: ( 604, 3526 )
- The Crashed Escape Pod (receive buff "Attacked") - Republic: ( 1762, -3617 ) Imperial: ( 451, 3070 )
- The Medical Supplies (receive buff "Exposed") - Republic: ( 2355, -3668 ) Imperial: ( 561, 2779 )
- Once you have all three buffs simultaneously, you'll receive a new 60 minute buff called "On the Trail"; you need to access the next part of the mission before this buff expires
- Access the Containment Operations Console in Anchorhead or Mos Ila, marked on your map by the mission completion icon - Republic: ( 1818, -3260 ) Imperial: ( 753, 2859 )
- Officially begin the "Tracking the Origin" mission chain
- Now you will need to find and click 12 wreckage fragments scattered throughout The Dune Sea and Jundland subzones; these are the same for Repub and Imps
- Note the "On the Trail" buff is no longer relevant once you've started the quest, so don't worry about losing it
- These are not listed in a suggested order of completion, but instead numbered to correspond to the map images provided below for easy locating:
- DUNE SEA: ( -2016, -1897 )
- DUNE SEA: ( -2412, -741 )
- DUNE SEA: ( -1408, -460 )
- JUNDLAND: ( 744, -2518 )
- JUNDLAND: ( -562, -1458 )
- JUNDLAND: ( 1181, -1301 )
- JUNDLAND: ( 791, -931 )
- JUNDLAND: ( 1075, -426 )
- JUNDLAND: ( -468, -336 )
- JUNDLAND: ( 319, 238 )
- JUNDLAND: ( 1819, 569 )
- JUNDLAND: ( 1083, 719 )
- After finding all 12 pieces, a mission completion icon will appear on your map in the southeastern portion of Jundland ( 2312, -194 )
- Click the crate to complete the quest and receive your Crimson Rakling

Posted 4/16/2012 4:18:49 PMVery nice and unsuspected event, very glad it's came without notice and is so in depth compared to other MMO's events. That said, if the only requirement for the title is 8/9 Codex entries for the event, it must be bugged for some people as I've yet to get it. :(

Posted 4/16/2012 4:52:02 PMAt the moment, some people claim to have gotten it but more claim they haven't. Speculation is that the 9/9 Codex entry won't go into effect until the event is over. This is not yet confirmed, so I didn't include it in the article. Will update as information emerges.

Posted 4/16/2012 6:27:39 PMHeard a guy on my server claim that he got the title by having killed all three of the bosses within the time the buff/debuff or whatever ran out. So, according to him you need to kill all three rapidly after each other, making it a rather hard title to grab (unless you hang out with 7 friends in the middle of the night).
Charming... yes? http://imgur.com/r6WrI

Posted 4/16/2012 11:00:57 PMHadn't heard this one yet either, but sounds pretty fish considering the RNG considerations of spawn timing, having the group, tagging the mob, etc. Doesn't seem like a design choice that BioWare would have gone with, but will keep my ears open.

Posted 4/16/2012 4:05:19 PMI actually expect this to last a few weeks. Reason being is the cost of the items. I don't know how many DNA samples the new quest gives, but yesterday I got 11 from doing all of them (minus killing the world bosses). At 83 for a saber crystal and 60 for a pet, I would expect them to keep this running long enough for people to get both. So I'm guessing 3 weeks.

Posted 4/16/2012 3:38:51 PMNo need to go naked for exploding - no damage to gear (tested in the fleet)
Also Feverish->Explode takes 10 minutes too. Making it 20 minutes total to get 5 DNA samples

Posted 4/16/2012 3:45:07 PMThe best way to do quests:
1. Shipwreck area, do it, get Blood samples and Passenger list quests there.
2. Passenger list - just go straight right from shipwhreck to Rebulic side and do it on your way to Imperial side (a little detour, but still on the way)
3. Use research terminal (Blood samples)
4. Go to Outbreak area, do it, do the Blood samples there.
5. Turn in Quests.
