Codex Guide: Tython

The in-game Codex entries are a novel and interesting way to gain a fair amount of experience for a character, as well as to learn a great deal more about the worlds, people, creatures and places in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Beginning this week, DarthHater will be offering a deeper, planet-by-planet look into the Codex series to provide current guides for unlocking each of the codices within SWTOR. We begin on Tython, the most recent Jedi homeworld and a planet with a rich and rather complicated history as it pertains to the Force. Next time we’ll take a closer look at Korriban, home of the Sith Empire and a trove of many entries concerning the darker aspects of the Force. Read on after the jump for a complete walkthrough.

Organizations:

  • Jedi Council – This entry comes from examining the sign outside of the Jedi Council room, on the second floor of the Jedi Temple at (-420, -435).

Alternatively for non-Jedi classes, you can also unlock Manka Cat on Alderaan by killing a Protective Manka Cat, coordinates (-784, 1438).

Bugged / Undocumented

Bestiary:

  • Terentatek (rumors of a Stalking Terantatek, but no confirmed sightings or Codex entries)
  • Wingmaw (This is actually obtained on Balmorra for both factions)

If anyone has figured out how to unlock these, please post in the comments detailing how you did so! DarthHater will be sure to update the guide as soon as the information becomes available. Otherwise, they’ll hopefully be removed from the Codex requirements for Tython by BioWare, or fixed so that they can be finally unlocked.

Echoing Shinorah's remark, what I hate is that non-Jedi classes can't get several of these, and yet the codex still shows those codex entries as missing for non-Jedi classes. It's mocking non-Jedi by pointing out the codexes you can't get but will forever have as unfilled in your codex for the planet. I assume the same would be true for Jedi on Ord Mantell(and a bevy of other codexes on various planets that one class or another or all can't get). I hope BioWare someday does a codex pass and makes the codexes that can't be gotten not show up in the codex as unattained.

Another example would be the codexes for several of the post-capital worlds(Taris/Balmorra, Nar Shaddaa, Tatooine, Alderaan) that all have a title shown as attainable, but isn't attainable at all. (For example, Rep-Taris had one attainable in beta, but between beta and live BW put up a wall that prevent access to the area that has the heroic that gives the title. You can still see the area on the world map, and the road that goes right up to the wall. Another example is the Czerka chain on Tatooine seems to be intended to give a title, but none can get.)

For someone with a bit of an OCD compulsion to get all codexes for each planet, it's very annoying.

Jedi Weapons entry for Jedi Knight is (was ?) also bugged. I have 2 Knight characters (main and alt created recently but before patch 1.2) and neither of them have this entry.

  • #2 r2d2arm

Yes, it seems rather random as to who gets bugged.

  • #3 Shinorah

I've heard some rumors along those lines, but I was able to get it on both characters I ran through and tested - so wasn't able to confirm its sporadic nature.  Thanks for the update.

I try to write up a list of bugged entries and forward them along to BioWare as I come across them, in the hopes they'll someday get addressed.  Not sure it's a priority, but the completionist in me would love to close out a planet - just one, even!  (As of this writing, being on Hoth with my main Codex toon - still not a single planet without at least one bugged or missing entry yet...)
