Guide: Magenta Crystal

A lightsaber ignites with a snap-hiss, bathing the room in a pale glow and emitting a soft, ominous hum. An assault cannon unleashes a volley of bolts in a barrage of withering fire. The iconic weapons of the Star Wars universe have an established legacy of being personalized tools that usually reflect the bearer in some way. In SWTOR, our ability to customize our weapon’s appearance is limited to only a few options: the overall look of the weapon, which is often a standard Rakata/Campaign/Battlemaster/War Hero design or an augmented standard craftable one, and the color crystal within.

As a result, a rare color crystal is often a highly-sought addition to add the finishing touch to your perfect weapon aesthetic. One particularly rare option is the Magenta crystal, which, as of Patch 1.2, has end-game versions (as well as lower level incarnations) providing +41 Endurance, Critical Rating, or Power. The simplest and most expensive method of obtaining one is to find a crafting player and purchase it. Keep in mind that this is also the only method if you don’t have an appropriately skilled Artificing character. This guide will show you where and how to obtain the schematics and ingredients for yourself, circumventing the need to rely on other players. Read on for full details.

The Schematics

Random mobs in the Black Hole as well as the Voss world boss Nightmare Pilgrim can drop the Artifice schematic for three different crystals: +41 Endurance/Power/Critical Rating. So, be prepared to kill many foes during the grind. The Galactic Trade Market might also be a source of this schmeatic as it is not bound on pickup, but your best bet may be tracking down another player on the fleet that already has the schematic you require.

Schematics for the lower level versions of the crystal (+33 Endurance, Critical Rating, and Power) can drop randomly on different planets, such as Belsavis.

The Ingredients

All ingredients are not bound, thus they can be freely traded. Treasure Hunting yields Lorrdian Gemstones and Corusca Gemstones when you do Gemstone missions. Thus the Magenta Adegan Crystal and the Pristine Adegan Crystals are our main focus.

The lower level crystals (level 49, +33 Endurance, Critical Rating, and Power) only require x6 Lorrdian Gemstones, x6 Corusca Gemstones, x1 Magenta Adegan Crystal and x8 Primeval Artifact Fragments, so are somewhat more easily acquired.

Pristine Adegan Crystals

In Alderaan there are new Unusual Crystal Formations which yield Rough Magenta Crystal shards. We need one shard for a Pristine Adegan Crystal, therefore we need to find 2 formations.

All over Alderaan there are two locations with two nodes and one with three nodes. The nodes from one location share a spawn timer, so only one node per location is available at the same time.

Kaamos Territory

A bit north of the transition to the Juran Mountains lies the first location west of the path towards the river.

Node 1: ( 1350, -1300 )
Node 2: ( 1312,  -1315 )

Refining Shards on Korriban (Imperial) or Tython (Republic)

After we have found two shards, we will travel to Korriban to the Lower Wilds if we're Imperial, or to Tython's Forge Remnants if we're Republic.

Behind a wall we find the device we need. Refine the two shards and we are finished with Pristine Adegan Crystals.

Magenta Adegan Crystal

To obtain this component we need to get the Pure Shockfrozen Water first. We can get this by visiting Tatooine for the Refreshed and Sustained buff and then to the mountains of Hoth to freeze the water.

Refreshed and Sustained

Some moisture vaporators in Tatooine have interactable panels on them. Use them to get the buff.

Pure Shockfrozen Water

Head to the Highmount Ridge area on Hoth to the Highmount Slopes around ( -920,  650 ) to receive the Extreme Altitude buff and freeze the water.

Crystal Formation on Ilum

Last but not least we need to travel to the Western Jedi Ruins of Ilum. By activating the small crystal formation we let a Force Ghost champion spawn. Your party should consist of at least one damage dealer and a healer and your companions can help you there too.

After defeating the ghost, a larger crystal formation spawns next to the small one, and interacting with it yields the Magenta Adegan Crystal.

Now you have all the items for the rare Magenta Crystal. Find an artificer or craft it yourself and finally: Have fun using it.

Does anyone know if you can have multiple shock-frozen water items and then use them to get more than one crystal per ghost kill?

  • #11 DaduHulk

Yes, you can have multiples on you. I understand once you kill the force ghost you can convert up to 5 glasses into gems. I tried and it worked, haven't tried with more.

I have been farming these for a while, with low results. The other day I was showing a couple of guild members the spots, and ALL THREE sites had crystals in Alderan!! Beginners luck I guess. :-P But then, one day 3 people came by within two minutes while I stood at a single spot.

I've been farming these mats for months and you've let all my secrets into the wild. :p You're missing 1 node at both the Juran Mtns (a second smaller snow capped peak) and Kaamos territory (a small cliff directly above the lower two, very hard to get this one). There are three rotating nodes at each of the three spawn sites.

There is also rumor amongst a select few that the Advanced Magenta War Hero schematic is actually in that game (as it is found in the .dats) and it can be obtained as a low percentage, ultra rare drop from the Level 6 PvP Crafting boxes purchasable with 1000wz comms. I have met only one person that claims to have gotten the drop, but he claims to have sold it to a guildie who quit two weeks after 1.2. So I have never been able to confirm.

It's a big risk to dump comms on those boxes without any assurances, but that would make sense considering the devs said they wanted all PvP color crystals to be obtained within the PvP silo.

And yes, the Magenta crystals are very much pink, not light red. I however get a strange pleasure out of beating someone in PvP with pink sabers. /shrug

    ah, thanks for mentioning!

yeah, there are some rumours about the crafting boxes, I know a guy has found some schematics for expertise crystals there, but still no light-red one...

I was so bummed to see how pink this was after I bought it off the GTN lol

    Great guide! Thanks.

I just want to note that the Force Ghost champion mob really tough. Needs a real healer, and really well geared companions to beat (but 3 players, one of them healer is the more safe bet).

yup, I agree! it works with tank/damage hybrid + heal, but it's a bit of a challenge. even with two healing companions

I've done it with 2 and 3 man groups, a little rougher then a full 4 man but also find it helpful if you're doing it as Republic players it also helps to kite the force ghost into the surrounding jedi/republic mobs for some extra damage.
