Codex Guide: Ord Mantell

Ord Mantell is a planet rife with suffering. A civil war, precipitated by the planet’s corrupt government, has raged for over five years. Refugees are common place, Imperial spies lurk in the shadows — and to top it all off, rebel Separatists fight from a volcano stronghold. Now in fairness, that last part sounds pretty cool (volcano stronghold!), but the rest is bleak as Ord Mantell’s grey skies.

It should come as no surprise that this war-ravaged world has attracted a number of soldiers and smugglers. For Troopers, Ord Mantell recalls the best parts of movies like Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket, where everyone’s shooting at you and the good guys are just as bad as the bad guys. As a Smuggler, well – if there is one truth to war, it’s that there is always good money to be made running smuggled goods in and out of a warzone. With this bit of background on the planet, let’s delve straight into its codices!

By the way, your world map shows that you lack the bottom middle part of the map. I think most people lack this area. I got bored and explored one day on OM and found a way to get up there. There's a few ways, but one way is in the southwest corner of Fort Garnik, at that dead-end near the cantina. On the south "wall" of the dead-end, you can climb up on the rocks and get onto the southern plateau. That should open up that area on world map and the entire map as a result, for completionists.

From there, you can go to a lot of places. I managed to get roughly halfway up the volcano before I managed to hit the farthest limit of steep slopes that I couldn't climb past.

And just for exploring more, you can get on the plateau that dominates the northeast part of the map too. Just outside the East exit of Fort Garnik, by the Cathar, if you go straight north into the intersection of wall of cliff face, you can climb up and get on top. You can go all around the west edge of Talloran Village(including on top of the main building), and as far as overlooking Drelliad Village. You can also cross the bridge over the east canyon out of Garnik and get around, including getting on top of the hangar platforms(including one that is phased). That way can also get you around to the south-central plateau I think.

Yeah, I had a LOT of fun climbing and exploring on Ord Mantell on a very unproductive day. :P

I was going to mention this (jumping up the wall by the cantina to get that last bit of unexplored map), but you beat me to it. :)

Using that method, i was able to make my way up and over the spaceport and then jump down to where the shuttle is. It was weird, because for part of the way I was standing on nothing but air.

Good post! It bugs me also that 2 codexes can't be gotten. Someday BioWare really needs to do a pass through all the codexes and either make them attainable(preferable, especially for title-granting entries) or fix their categories so they aren't shown as missing on the Planet Codex entries(also acceptable). My OCD(Obsessive Codex Disorder) really bugs me at seeing unattainable entries that still show as missing in the codex.

I agree!  In fact, I was for a while mailing David Bass lists of all the missing/bugged ones in hopes of getting them fixed.  Trying to figure out who my point of contact is for that now that he's moved on.  But I also go a little batty if I can't close out a planet.  Argh!

It surely doesn't help that at least some of these were attainable in beta before being removed for release.

I'm thinking of the Rep-Taris title in particular, that is in an area of the planet that had a wall put up to block access to the heroic quest within that area and thus the title. Literally just a wall. You can see it on the world map(the big  squared area to top center of map). There's a road that leads right to the area, with the wall in the middle of the path. There's even a med droid nearby for if you die in that area(there are no nearby quests to warrant this droid's placement there). It tempts me so much!

Several of the other planets too. Tatooine's Czerka questlines(for both factions)' title being removed, as example. Did BioWare decide at the last second that these titles were too good for low level players, or what? Sorry, I got off on another rant. :P
