Open Forum: Game Update 1.3

With Game Update 1.3: Allies now on live servers, we want to hear what the community thinks of it. Was it everything you hoped it would be? What do you think of the new augment system? Have you tried Ranked Warzones? If so, what are your impressions? What are your thoughts on the Group Finder? Is there anything changed or added to the patch that you want BioWare to improve? Keep the opinions constructive and do not flame your peers. We will moderate accordingly.

Next week’s podcast will feature a few of the comments as well as a discussion around the area that received the most remarks.

I think the LFG tool is a great addition to the game; I've been quite lucky to be able to find groups (mostly good) since it was introduced. And as a healer, my wait times are pretty short.

However, that said, it does need some work. For one thing, there needs to be some sort of alert sound when the queue window pops. There have been times when I've queued up, alt-tabbed out to check something and then come back to the message that I declined the invite and have been removed from queue. If there had been some sort of sound, I would not have missed the invite.

Second, it needs to be a little more flexible, and have the ability to invite someone to the group if someone leaves, or to be able to accept invites if you are queued. Not being able to invite someone to a group after it's formed was either a very stupid decision or a big oversight. And not being able to accept invites makes using the tool for planetary content almost useless.

Another thing I would like to see is the ability to queue for specific things, like Black Talon/Esseles social runs. Perhaps these could be added in specifically flagged as "Social Point Runs" since doing these two FPs are the best and most common way to gain social points (at this time). I know I've done my fair share of running players newly arrived on the Fleet through BT on my sorcerer (lightning storm spam ftw) simply because I wanted that next social level. I know BW has said that they were looking at how social points are gained and at ways to make them easier to earn, but it would still be nice to see the option added.

My Shadow Tank got hit with the Armor and self-healing nerfs, so I've tried to compensate by putting the 18 END / 12 Power augs on every slot of my tanking set except the weapon and shield generator. With BH wrist and 2 relics, Columi weapon and everything else Rakata, this puts me at about 27.5k health when using Rakata Fortitude Stim. It's a damn good thing I had a big stockpile of Zal Alloy and Durasteel, and the slicing components, plus 400 armormech and 400 armstech to make the aug kits and augments...

I like the augmentation slots. It's not carrot on a stick - because there have been augment slots before! Now you can get them for any gear. It's easy and cheaper to get them now than before!

The Groupfinder simply sucks. It's stupid ans useless. A typical Bioware way to get things done. I don't get it why it has to be so useless.

The most important thing that 1.3 adds to the game: Server Transfers.

Imperial Fleet on P5 with 4 instances with 250 players on each...

    "It's alive!!"

That was the MMO back to SWTOR, LFG and augment system had minors bugs but that's normal since there is no PTS in SWTOR.

LFG, Augments (sold 11 Kit MK-6 on GTN, 630,000c... not bad.), Social Gear, Legacy Perks and RWZ are still great additions to the game, and further down the road when there will be Cross Server they will get even better (LFG popin faster, players being able to choose what WZ they want to play, choosing if want to be included in on-going WZ, having deserter debuffs add to LFG and WZ, etc).

BW could add more features to custom UI, multi-spec and chat bubbles!!

(and add Open World PvP, Remember ilum!)

    I like 1.3 very much.

Im more a PVP player, only downside for me atm is the cash flow.

In pvp i earn not enough credits to compensate my augment kits that i need to buy. I would prefer that the PVP vendors could offer augmentation kits or pvp augments for Warzone commendations. I dont mind how many commendations.

I know there are dailies, or pve content, but i really dont like to do that. I dont have any proffessions cause of my small budget.

Ranked Warzones are great, allot of competition. I really hope they dont add single player queing. that wouldn't keep those matches clean.

I really love the adaptive gear . at least i can look different form the other war hero geared people :P.

Hoping that they will develop something to change colors of the gear. Most gear is 2 colored. If we just could adjust those 2 colors everything would be more personal.

For the rest, keep on going BW ! At least those small steps are in the right direction.

So far every update has added something that the game needed, as well as some things that just made life a little nicer.  I like the LFG tool, although i don't know if there is a gear check for those, as I ended up in a lost island with a person who was a fresh 50 with greens on.

the new character perks are a little meh in my opinion.  I understand that its for leveling alts and the legacy system making your leveling process more customizeable, but i really feel that there are some in there that should be account wide.  (repair droid, insta travels, and the respec option)

What bothers me the most though is the lack of some basic features that are still missing.

1-There is still no way of knowing if you know a crafting pattern or not other than just going into the crafting window and searching yourself.  Usually that takes too long and the roll passes you over.  Add a line that just says "known" to the pattern if you know it.

2-The UI needs a little more customizability.  I love how much you can move it but there are things that I would like to see a little more options.  Things like portraits, i'd like to be able to turn them off if I want to.  Buffs/debuffs on my target and myself, I'd like to be able to scale them and move them.  In the operation frames it'd be nice to control if you see buffs and debuffs as well.  And a BIG one for dps is it'd be nice to be able to see just YOUR debuffs, as well as a numerical timer.

these are the 2 big things that i'd like to see so I'm hoping bioware checks this for a little community response because hey, if we don't speak up and say what's wrong, how will they know what to change or fix?

    1. you could just make a list yourself and mark which schematics you are still missing, adds a nice "oldschool" feeling to it

    2. you bring up all this debuff stuff but didn't adress the possibility to enlarge windows so you would see for example all your companions, not only 4,5 or any other window for that matter. This really drives me crazy.

    3. I do hope they will add something to combine all the stuff from your chars, like companion missions... or a legacy cargo hold with all unlocks you already have on your twink cargo holds... (no I don't want only 1 cargo hold, I want to have all current cargo holds combined as legacy bank, otherwise there is little to no sense as all crafting materials already do occupy much more space.

I've done a couple flashpoints with the group finder, both at 50 and low levels, and it works pretty well.  Sure groups are hit or miss, mostly hit, but that's to be expected to some degree.  I'm liking that the LFG tool isn't cross-server, at lvl 50 I'm running into people from other progression guilds getting their daily BH coms and making contacts.

I'd prefer the operations to be 16m for LFG though.  You get more dps through per tank, group composition matters less in 16, and dps requirements are slightly lower, making it easier to carry undergeared characters.  Also, it would be nice if there was an estimated wait time when you're in queue.

The augment system is great, a relatively small upfront investment and you gain a permanent boost to whatever stat you want.  It makes your stats a little easier to balance and once you get rakata shells or campaign armorings you never need to apply another one again.

I'm not an avid pvp'er so I haven't experienced the ranked warzone atmosphere yet, but it has made a difference on non-ranked pvp.  The couple times I've queued up this week I was delighted to not be against 2 premades in full war hero gear, and actually managed to win a match for a change.

Finally, Bioware came out with a legacy unlock that's useful!  The repair droid is a godsend for Ops-focused guilds.  Too many times we've gotten to a boss, we're about to pull, and someone's notification that their gear is about to break finally pops up.  Most of the other unlocks I can do without, but I purchased the droid on all 7 of my characters.

The only thing I can think of that they could have done differently is test the patch for another week or two, or come up with a better way to get people to play on the PTS.  There were, and still are, bugs present that never should have made it out of testing.

personally i think 1.3 is brilliant the server merges helped a lot because on my old server there was 20 or so people prime time, most of em 50s doing nothing but sitting on fleet. now getting heroic 4s is easy, and with group finder it is brilliant. i love the dailies for group finder, it really helps people but i think its good so it says the ones for your lvl, so among the commendations you also have a chance to get better gear.

However, I still think item modification costs (especially augment slots) are too high, it would be great if they treated this similar to the re-spec costs associated with the different skill trees and had the augment cost reset to 0 or some predefined cost after a certain period.

The group finder should be updated to allow players to receive and send invites while in the group finder queue and a player review/feedback system would be great too - a lot of impatient players continue to leave a group prematurely, which isn't a big deal in flashpoints, but can really screw you up with operations groups.  I would love to see a score for someone so I could determine whether or not I want to group with them or decline.

I also would like to see future legacy perks that are focused on all characters in a legacy not individual characters including
    • Legacy-wide datacron and codex unlocks
    • Legacy-wide social and valor rank
    • The ability to access credits from a singular legacy account (yes you can send credits back and forth right now, but think about how easy it is to manage money in Diablo 3 - I would enjoy a similar feature in SWTOR)
Something else that would also be cool is if the /friend and /ignore commands started to work at an account level and not at the character level.

i continue to enjoy the game and look forward to future updates - thanks for everything you do for the community DH!</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table>

I completely agree with everything you want except for the valor rank being Legacy wide. The only reason I don't like that is because it gives your alts an unfair advantage over other players and it would allow for players to farm out valor ranks in low level PvP for their entire legacy.

Other than that, I really like the other ideas you posted, especially with social rank and the friends list. I heard a rumor that all codex entries are heading towards legacy wide after 1.4, around the time when they introduce the real Achievement system they have planned. Also, they are going to be changing the Bank to a Legacy Bank, so I think with that we're also going to see our credits from all of our toons become legacy wide.

1.3 is exactly what I envisioned the game releasing as... except we had to wait until 1.3 for it. Everyone I know that played the game has quit and moved on to other MMO's, but I'm sticking with SWTOR for now. 1.3 gave me some hope for this game to come back and actually make a splash in the MMO market. I have a feeling 1.4 will bring a ton of people back to the game with a lot of new content, plus the must-have's like the Group Finder should have a lot of the bugs worked out by then.

From a purely leveling point of view, 1.3 is exactly what was needed so that people actually want to level an alt. The perks are a bit pricey, yes, but I just vendor'd my recruit gear tokens on my other 50's and bought a bunch of XP boost perks for my new toons.

I still have a huge problem with end-game content though. Without REAL achievements, mini-games, and other time killers, there's no need for me to log onto my main other than to raid, and there's definitely no reason for me to log onto my alt 50's...

I'd have preferred them actually adding Medium and Heavy social armor to the game instead of adding the ridiculousness of troopers in slave girl outfits. Still no way to get the look of Lieutenant Iresso's starting armor, or the soldiers wandering around the Republic fleet. The dps nerfs to tanks made the threat buffs a wash, and the area of effect on the new Guardian Slash is so tiny that they ability is useless. To make things worse, most dps seem to have read the "threat for tanks buffed" announcement and the group finder announcement and suddenly decided they were in a Wrath of the Lich King party. I'm constantly having to deal with Mortar Volley and XS Freighter Flyby when I've had less than a second to build threat, followed by DPS bitching that they died after pulling the mobs away from my AoE.

You should be accustomed to DPS AEing, or attacking the single gold that was CC'd , or even better AEing the 3 gold's that are CC'd... That kind of non-sense has been going on in MMO's long before this game.. DPS always think that they are superheroes... lol

  • #5 Jaramukhti

    THIS.

As a tank, I always prepared for dps with itchy trigger fingers. The trick is to make the move before they do. Get used to moving at a brisk pace. Don't let the dps get set with too much time to spare. Make them think on their feet and you'll find most dps will stop rushing and just go with the pace knowing you aren't going to be crawling through the encounter.
