This is OpsCom, where we bring you a weekly dose of Operations-related content from the world of Star Wars: The Old Republic. This column will serve as an inside scoop on new content, developer feedback and community gossip. Stay tuned in the coming weeks, and we will keep you up to date on all the news you need to stay on the cutting edge.
In this week's OpsCom, we'll hear from Gabe Amatangelo on a few things pertinent to the Operations community, including when we can expect to see new content. Also, we'll check back in on the Timed Eternity Vault/Karagga's Palace runs and see who emerged victorious. For these stories, your weekly Community Spotlight, and much more, hit the jump.
Weekly News Roundup
During an interview with BioWare's Gabe Amatangelo, we gained some very valuable insight into the future of planned operations content, and when we can expect to see new stuff coming down the pipes. For the full scoop on this and more, head over and have a look at the transcript.
In a previous OpsCom, we had covered a challenge for all guilds interested in proving their mettle in a Timed Run of Eternity Vault and Karagga's Palace. Drunkshade returned to let us know who was victorious.
In a topic familiar to most end-game players, a thread was started recently concerning the quality of loot received from Lost Island, versus it's relative difficulty. Allison Berryman checked in with Jesse Sky to get his thoughts on loot distribution, so have a look.
Another interesting interview happened very recently, and this time it was with the GM of BioWare Austin Matthew Bromberg. Deewe brought us the lowdown on this story, so go check it out.
Community Spotlight
For this week's Community Spotlight, we're taking a look at Bastion Reborn, a Republic guild on the Jedi Covenant server. This guild has a heavy focus on downing PvE content, and have recently downed Explosive Conflict on Story Mode, with a Hard Mode killed sure to be close behind. Touted as the largest and most active guild on Jedi Covenant, if you're there and a member of the Republic, be sure to look them up and see what they have to offer you.
Are you interested in having your guild featured here? Send us an email at darth@darthhater.com and give us a general run down. Submissions should include Guild Name, Faction, Server and how far your guild has progressed. Bonus points for a YouTube video of any boss kills that we can feature in this section.
Op-Ed: World Events and the Future
As most, if not all, of you are aware, the Chevin Conglomerate recently descended on the denizens of The Old Republic, promising wealth and treasure beyond compare if you were willing to do a little leg work for them. Their motivations were a bit shady, but for those willing to stow their moral compass, there's an opportunity to make some money, and get a few cool items in the process. But, as the event unfolded, some players voiced their criticisms of the event, stating that the items were too limited, or that the event itself was too short or compact.
While this event did feel much more compartmentalized than the Rakghoul Infestation, despite that event being contained within one planet, there are several ways you could view this. The Rakghoul event was used to usher in new content, and help flesh out the story a bit more than it might have otherwise been presented. The Grand Acquisitions Race has introduced the reemergence of the mysterious Gree and their technologically superior fleet. What this means for players is yet to be seen, but it's certainly a tie-in to the upcoming Terror From Beyond and Ancient Hypergates content.
So, are we being too harsh to criticize a lead-in event for it's brevity? Or are we justified in expecting a more fleshed out experience from long awaited content. Personally, I was surprised that more didn't come out of this event, as I was sure it would unfold more as the days went on, rather than the three gated quests that we were given to "check back later" with. In the end, the developers have promised us new content, and this seems like the first step toward delivering on that promise.
That brings us to this week's poll, dealing with the recent world event. As usual, cast your votes and, if you have a point that you're just dying to make, send your mail to darth@darthhater.com and let us know what's on your mind.

Posted 8/21/2012 9:03:28 AMI did the event with my lvl 23 or so mercenary while I did mostly warzones and my class quest next to it. I voted "kinda dissapointed" for several reason.
Now let me clarify that I don't know how hard it is and how much time it takes to design and implement new armor/ weapon skins.
I don't think it is too much to expect more than what we got after weeks of waiting for anything.

Posted 8/20/2012 6:55:01 PMI enjoyed the event, think the loot was good, and found the puzzles to be fun.
Here's what could have made it better:
. . . also the speeder was AWESOME for any SWG vets who remember busting up their landspeeders. Nice touch BW!

Posted 8/20/2012 4:06:06 PMI voted somewhat disappointed. Let me preface by saying that I LOVED the first event. I found it very enjoyable. For this event I like the concept, but was somewhat disappointed with the execution. Reason why:
1. The box quest: This alone was enough to turn this from enjoyable to annoying. It's bad enough that you had the quest to look for the 6 random spawn boxes, but add to that the fact that the 6th piece always took longer (I did the quest on 4 toons), and worse yet, others were searching them constantly for comms. The boxes for comms idea isn't that bad, actually I think it's quite good, give people the opportunity to get unlimited comms for either selling for money or buying the event items, but mixing that with one of the quests ruined that IMO. The boxes should have been 100% separate from the actual quests or the event item should have been a single drop (not 1/6 x 6) with a fairly high percentage to drop.
2. The rewards: When I state the rewards you might ask if I mean the rewards for the quests themselves, the items from the vendors, or if I even mean the credits you get from completing the quests, the answer is yes. The Chevin promised riches, I was expecting the credit yield to be much, much better for completing the entire quest (I'm talking like several 100k credits [possible scaling down if not 50]). The rewards from the comms were OK. I liked the new sand people set and bought a full set for one toon (though I wish it would have correlated to the actual event somehow). I actually liked the speeder, a lot of people complained about it not being 110% speed, but LOOK AT IT, it looks like it barely runs. I'm quite confident the low speed was intentional, this is clearly meant to be a novelty vanity item, not your new permanent mount. Something you bring out from time to time as a joke. For that I liked the speeder (though a new 110% in addition would have been a nice option, maybe a fixed up version of the same speeder). I didn't care for the weapons only being bowcasters. I loved that they were bind on legacy, I was able to give my 45 sniper a full columi modded blaster for the second she dings 50, but if you don't have a character who needs it, it seems like a waste. It's been said, and I believe, the intent is that future events will follow the same idea, for example maybe next event is only vibroblades, or pistols, but with currently people screaming that content doesn't get released frequently enough the timing of this was bad. There should have been a few events in close secession building up player confidence that content would flow more regularly before going to a model where there may be 0 gear you want from an event (even then haters gonna hate, but there would have been fewer). Finally the amount of comms you got from completing the event wasn't enough to get much of the items from the vendor. I suspect this was intentional the boxes were ment to fill that, but see the problem with the boxes above, this compounded that. I ran all 5 of my level 20+ toons through the full event, doing so and doing very little box farming outside of the box quest i was able to buy: 1 pet, 1 mount, 1 x40 comm bowcaster, and 1 full sand person set, and had about 30-40 comms left over. That sounds like a lot, but that was running the full event 5 times, so a single run through would have only got me 1/5 of that. I understand you don't want everyone to get it all, that takes away the uniqueness, but people also don't want to have to super grind on a limited time frame event.
3. The story: I like that an attempt was made at a story, but it was lacking. The intro - great, I loved the newscast, The middle - good, it was interesting working with the spy faction, The end - what end? You turn in the quest and receive a title, but never really found out what the Chevin was doing. I'm hoping there will be something coming after maintenance or when the new operation drop that explains this, if not this was a big ball drop on the story (especially when we were told there would be a twist, was the twist that you lied and there was not twist?)

Posted 8/20/2012 3:25:49 PMThe hunt in general was entertaining, and the puzzles were a nice change from "stand in one spot on the fleet trading plagues."
The only thing that made any part of the world event unpleasant was a small portion of the player base.
The people who insisted on "helping" you with the boss on Nar Shaddaa and only caused you to reset a dozen times before they finally stopped destroying all of the capacitors on you. The people who griefed hundreds of others on the droid escort. The players that insisted on forcing world pvp at every place you had to click something. And last but not least the credit farmers who felt that 3-5k was a fair price to charge for the event currency while blocking the rest of the population from completing the gathering portion of the event in a timely fashion.
As for the rewards, I completed the event on several characters and so had enough tokens to buy the sandpeople outfit, several of the legacy weapons, and the pet on my main character. The weapons will help me with gearing my alts, since I can transfer campaign weapons to them now along with the armor and mods. The speeder would have been appealing if it was grade 3, since it wasn't I passed and bought sparkle power with my remaining tokens.
The event was great, people suck.

Posted 8/20/2012 4:16:50 PMI can sympathize with you on that end, I don't know how many times I had to reset Fallaxen, and I did it across 4 characters. I feel like certain things should've been phased, like the racing droids, for instance.

Posted 8/20/2012 12:11:01 PMfirst - I liked the concept of the scavenger hunt. And I liked that the weapons were legacy bound. But -
1.) It got to be a grind to find the boxes to get enough tokens to buy the gear and a gun etc..
2.) The gear kinda sucked, the only weapon's couldn't be used by 3/4 of the population. I mean WTF?

Posted 8/20/2012 12:19:28 PMYou're really not alone there, as many of my guildies leveled those same complaints. I would agree that it was kind of a poor choice to exclude certain classes.

Posted 8/21/2012 12:50:10 AMAnd for me I felt it was perfectly fine not to have something for every class there. Less grinding. But then again, I have one of every advanced class split between both sides, so anything to lessen my grinding burden the better.
