For centuries, Taris was a major hub for interstellar travelers, offering vast spaceports with vendors and residences to accommodate both short and long-term guests. That all changed when Darth Malak ordered his Leviathan to reduce the planet-wide city to rubble. For three hundred years, priceless archaeological fragments and beautiful crystal formations have been hidden amongst the city’s ruins. Explorers with a passion for gathering up pieces of history and clusters of colorful crystals are now free to seek their fortunes amidst Taris’s fallen skyscrapers. Continue forward for detailed information and maps to aid in your search, or check out our first guide to Republic archaeology on Coruscant.
Taris is the third planet Republic players visit and the second where crafting materials can be gathered. None of the level-one nodes from Coruscant can be found on this planet, but larger quantities of the two higher-end nodes from the Republic capital can be found here. Once you have reached gathering level 25, you can continue to level up your archaeology skill by gathering the nodes listed below.
Nodes
Level of skill required to gather, name of node object (material gathered)
- 25, Lost Archaeological Find (Lost Artifact Fragment)
- 55, Eralam Crystal Formation (Eralam Crystal)
- 55, Igneous Blue Crystal Formation (Blue Igneous Crystal)
- 55, Igneous Green Crystal Formation (Green Igneous Crystal)
- 55, Igneous Red Crystal Formation (Red Igneous Crystal)
- 70, Sacred Archaeological Find (Sacred Artifact Fragment)
- 90, Nextor Crystal Formation (Nextor Crystal)
All of the nodes listed above are found in the following areas: Republic Resettlement Zone, The Sinking City, The Tularan Marsh, Transport Station 5, and The Brell Sediment.
Eralam Crystal Formations are the most plentiful nodes on Taris by a large margin. In addition, White Nextor Crystal Formations can be found throughout the planet, but are not as plentiful as their colorful counterparts. Amorphous Blue, Red, and Green Crystal Formations also have a chance to respawn once a Eralam or Nextor Crystal node has been gathered. And finally, if a player has reached the appropriate gathering level, crystal nodes throughout the planet will have a chance to yield an additional Lost or Sacred Artifact Fragment.
Recommended Zones
Unlike the previous Republic planet, Taris only has one area (Transport Station 5) that does not allow speeder travel. This grants players the ability to quickly move from node to node while farming. Judging by numbers alone, The Sinking City, The Tularan Marsh, and The Brell Sediment are all viable options for archaeological gathering. However, The Brell Sediment has a slight advantage due to its wide open spaces, which allow easier travel in the area. The Sinking City also has a nice cluster of nodes at its center that players can farm, as long as they don’t mind waiting a little while for them to respawn.

Posted 10/23/2012 4:32:51 AMAny chance the other gathering crew skills (archaeology and scavenging) can be utilized on "nodes and wildlife" similar to bioanalysis? Quick brainstorm... gathering droids that when found would be killed and harvested for remnants of these pure materials. If found near archaeology nodes, likely there would be remains of archaeological finds or crystals from the droid's remains. If gathering droid is found near scavenging nodes, likely you can obtain scavenged metals and compounds from the droid's remains.
Anyway, I think everyone gets the idea. I suppose Slicing could have Slicer Droids yield slicing boxes/cases from the droid's remains.
So to summarize, I think additional planetary npc droids for each gathering crew skill might even the playing field for all the others to bioanalysis. To avoid any confusion, the names of the droids could be the crew skill used... scavenger droid, archaeology droid, slicer droid, etc.
