Column: Community Events

The World Event is done, so its time for some more Community Events! This week we look at the Oceania servers and bring back some interesting events for you all to look at. The first is a Pod Race on Tatooine, with millions of credits up for grabs. The second is a series of World PvP fights across the Galaxy. We also cover a multi-faction guild that support its server with various community events and activities. As always, we have another poll down below waiting for your votes. Dont forget, if you have submissions you would like to see on here, please send an email to darth@darthhater.com with the header “Community” with the name of whatever event or guild you’d like us to cover. And be sure to check out some more events and community activities over on the official website in their Community Round-up.

Event Highlights

Beggars Canyon Pod Race
Gav Dragon

Ozimantas on the Gav Dragon server will be hosting a Pod Race on September 1st, open to all factions. This event will use 110% speed Mounts to race through the deserts of Tatooine and is open to all factions, with sponsors providing prizes reaching into the millions of Credits. Using an Alleycat style of racing, the participants will be confined to passing through a series of waypoints, with the route itself entirely determined by the racers. Be sure to learn the landscape of Tatooine in fine detail, since it will be your knowledge and skill at navigation that determines if you win or not.

World PvP Series
Dalborra

Though this event was scheduled for the 22nd, it has been put off to the 25th, 8pm NZ Time/6pm AEST and continues for the next two weeks. On Saturday, participants will be in a battle between Republic and Imperial forces on Ilum, defending the Republic base against an Imperial siege. This event is open to anyone who wants to participate, so contact Toughmudder on the Republic side and Shells on the Imperial side.

After this Saturday, the next fight will be on the 30th of August, and will be a defense of the Imperial base on Belsavis, starting at the same time. After that, the third and final event is September 8th, back on Ilum in the contested area. Check out the information page over on the official forums.

Guild Highlight

Known by several names, “Invicta” is actually two guilds; the Imperial ‘Project Invicta’ and Republic ‘Invicta Trading Company’ on the Ebon Hawk server. Primarily a Roleplaying guild, Invicta provides opportunities in both PvE and PvP for its members, allowing their players to focus on having fun. Described as a ‘jack of all trades’ guild, Invicta has existed on multiple MMO’s for the past five years before settling on The Old Republic. According to its members, it still has a small family feel in the closeness of its members, despite it being a large guild.

Invicta provides the Ebon Hawk server with multiple events of different varieties. They currently run two weekly events; one Imperial side, and one neutral on Nar Shaddaa, along with several individual events. What’s even better, almost all of the events they host are open to the public. One of which, the “Great Hunt” is an event I covered in my first column, which will apparently be getting a few improvements in the near future. More than that, they support other guilds on their server and assist them in their events, ensuring the server maintains a healthy and social community.

Go check out their recruitment page on the official forum. While they do not currently have a recruitment video, here is a video they put together from the first season of their event, the Great Hunt.

Poll

The results from my last poll were a bit disheartening. The majority of you would rather not run an event, which is understandable. The required organization and coordination does take up a fair bit of time.

Since that is out of the way, I am curious about something else now. The look of your gear. Do you use the color matching system to their full potential for unique gear appearances? Pure adaptive gear to run around as someone in the Hutt Cartel? The best gear from the PvP or PvE vendors to show everyone the results of your hard work? Tell me!

Poll: Poll Question

What kind of gear do you equip on your characters?

Poll Question - Single Choice

  • Adaptive Gear Sets 10.3%
  • PvP Vendor Sets 10.3%
  • PvE Vendor Sets 17.9%
  • Whatever looks awesome 30.8%
  • Whatever looks weird 0%
  • A mix of the above 30.8%

This poll has ended as of 8/30/2012 12:00:00 AM.

And dont forget to tell me why in the comments below, especially if you picked a mix of the above.

I've got a mix of pve, pvp, social, heroic reward oranges and crafted.

On my smuggler I picked up a dark gray long jacket from a heroic -- so far as I've seen, it's the only moddable black/dark grey long coat (not robe) for smugs on Pub side and it comes from a heroic on Voss. That plus the crafted Gunslinger's Headgear: http://db.darthhater.com/items/385/gunslingers_headgear/ are pretty sharp. Lvl 40 PVP pants for smugs are the only true-black pants I've seen Pub side.

My Jedi on the other hand has a combo of the Balmorran social chest, which has the benefit of looking like actual armor, paired with the civilian pilot's pants (which color sync to a nice charcoal color with brown accents). I have her the rings from the slave set on Nar Shaddaa to keep her hands open, and the Muse boots from Alderaan color sync to black with light gray trim.

    Guild Leader, Seelund Trading Co.
I have a *special* relationship with Lady Luck. She smiles on me often.
    Usually, it's with derision.

Since I hate looking like a Darth Baras cast off, I've replaced my Rakata SI chest with a simple black chest piece that has the hood down (think it's the Dark Acolyte chest). With the Columi/Rakata legs (doesn't really matter because the mods are BH now) and color matching, it gives me SI a nice, simple looking black robe look. Kept everything else to get the set bonuses or I'd definitely be using more adaptive/orange gear.

Before I even new what the gear available in the game looked like, I had  general designs for all the characters would be making.  All I needed to know was that orange modible gear was available and the plan's been to stay as close to those designs as I can, though I've left enough wiggle room that if something looks really awesome, say chest armor with a trench coat over it for a trooper, then wardrobe changes might be made.

Bad poll question, i want to answer the first four choices because they all apply. I don't wear just ONE set.

  • #4 coolaid

yeah, and missing crafted gear O.o...
