Free to Play is finally here, and with it comes a whole swath of new opportunities and for players to enjoy the game! Several guilds are taking it upon themselves to use the newly established systems to assist and attract new players. Imperial players on Jung Ma will be handing out free gear to new players and making a Roleplaying event out of it. The Harbinger will be host to a Fleet Datacron run later today for anyone interested. Players on Begeren Colony have gone ahead and set up an in character Bounty Hunting list for players looking for some Player vs. Player fun. A guild on Tomb of Freedon Nadd ran a series of events welcoming new players to the servers yesterday, but it is worth pointing out for future attempts. Be sure to look at the end for a new poll and analysis of the last poll. If you have events or guilds you would like to see covered in this column, send me a message with the name of the event or guild and the contact information.
Events
Arming the Empire
Jung Ma
Esoteric Order will welcome new Free-to-Play players on Dromund Kaas every Friday night starting November 16 at 8:00 pm. Their guild has been busy working the last several weeks in preparation for Free-to-Play. During this event, Esoteric Order will be giving out FREE high quality equipment for starter players levels 9-20. That’s right, free high quality gear to all new players, to welcome them both to the game and to the server.
This event also has a special bonus; they are running it as an in-character role playing event, so roleplayers can come by and have a bit of fun even if they don’t need the gear. The story is that the Empire is equipping their soldiers for the upcoming war with the Republic, and ensuring everyone is ready and able to fight. Check out the forum post for more information.
10 Datacron Run
The Harbinger
Everyone loves a good Datacron run. Today, November 16, there will be a +10 Fleet Datacron run put on by the guild Delusions of Grandeur at 9pm EST. New players, unaffiliated players and anyone looking for the Datacron is welcome to come along. Look for Obideuce before the event to get an invitation, or ask any of the members who will be advertising in General chat right before the event.
This is a chance to not only get the Datacron, but introduce new players to your server! This event is a day after Free-to-Play, so be sure to gather as many new players as you can and welcome them to the server. You can find the original post on the official forums.
Something Interesting
Bounty Hunting List
Begeren Colony
Players on Begeren Colony decided to add a bit of excitement to their server by implementing a bounty hunting list for players to use on their server. Bounties are set up either by the target themselves or from another player in agreement with the target, offering a sum of money in exchange for an image of the character defeated, or another goal specified with the bounty post. The bounty list is a Roleplaying tool, with options for in-character additions and information, as well as roleplaying goals for some of the bounties. There are plenty of options for pure Player vs. Player though, so be sure to take advantage of this feature and have fun!
If you want to place a bounty, or check out the ones already listed, you can find the list on the official forum.
“Great Hunt”
Tomb of Freedon Nadd
Several players on the Tomb of Freedon Nadd server banded together to organize a series of events to welcome new Free-to-Play players to their server. The series took place on November 15 and early this morning, so its time has come and gone, but the concept itself is a very interesting and fun one. A whole day of events to welcome new players to the server and show them a bit of fun. My only concern is that it was posted on the day Free-to-Play took effect, so I doubt many people saw it.
I hope people were there and took advantage of this welcoming event, it was very nice of those players to put it together for strangers. If anyone would like to check out what they did and the layout of the system, you can read about it here.
Poll
Thank you everyone who voted! I am happy to see the results of the poll aim more to the players than the officers. As an officer I have done a lot of work to support my guild, but that started when I was just a member. I wanted to see something done, I offered to do it, and that’s where it ended up taking me. So, while I am in partial agreement that Officers usually should be working a bit for the guild, as it is their purpose, the weight of specifically running events for the guild should fall on players.
With free to play, many things have changed for the game and been modified depending on if you are subscribing or playing for free. This one is short and sweet. I want to know if you think these changes will positively or negatively influence community events in the future?
