Column: Community Events (11/30/12)

Welcome back to the Community Events Column! After a break for Thanksgiving, it’s time to bring you more Community Events. We have some good ones for you this week, so I won't keep you waiting. A Player vs. Player event on Jung Ma brings in duelists from across the Galaxy. The Ebon Hawk will be host to a series of Swoop Races, offering credits and rare speeders for the winners. A player on Begeren Colony is attempting to get some PvP events going for their server and it looks like they could use some input from the community. Over on Gav Daragon, someone is taking it upon themselves to put together a bulletin of happenings on their server for their fellow players. Afterward, I have a question to ask you all in regards to your server communities. If you have anything you would like for me to cover in my next Column, let me know by sending me a message with the name of the guild or event and the contact information I will need.

Jung Ma

The Jung Ma server is host to a new weekly PvP-based event that is sure to please the bloodthirsty among you. On Monday nights at 9:00pm EST, one on one PvP duel events can be found outside the Violet Lounge on Nar Shaddaa. A separate part of the event is a fisticuffs boxing match, for a smaller prize but entirely for fun and based on skill, not gear. For a 10,000 credit buy in, you can have a chance to win either 100,000, 50,000 or 25,000 credits for the main event, or 25,000 credits for the boxing match.

For all of those worried about a handful of hardcore PvP players taking all the glory, don’t worry. Players who win three times are required to ‘retire’ for a week, to allow other players a chance to take the title. This event is for fun, besides just credits. Player’s are required to be respectful to each other inside and outside the fights.

If you are a guild leader, or just happen to have a few million credits, they have advertising slots available to get your name out. Visit the event, or check out the post on the forums, and see what you can offer.

The Vertical City Swoopstakes
The Ebon Hawk

The Ebon Hawk server will host a glorious Swoop Racing event on December 8 at 9:00pm EST on Nar Shaddaa, put together by the guild Corellian Transports and Exports. Dubbed the Vertical City Swoopstakes, the race will be three separate runs of the three different Speeder levels, with racers limited to just one of the three races. Similarly, only the smaller variety of speeders are permitted with fixed speed bonuses. That means newer types of speeders with adaptive speed boosts depending on training levels are not permitted. All racers must also be in this race for themselves; no teams are allowed and any racers working together will be banned.

The top three racers from each of the three races will walk away with either 100,000, 50,000 or 25,000 credits. That means nine people will be walking away with a lot of money. In addition, the first and second place racers will walk away with a free speeder donated by Corellian Transports and Exports. They will also be giving out extra speeders at a raffle to spectators at the race, due to the sheer amount of speeders they have in stock! Be sure to visit this event and try your hand at the race, or get your hands on a new speeder!

While registration is not required, be sure to post in the topic to have a spot saved for you in the race of your choice. You can also look in that topic to see what kind of speeders they have available for prizes.

Something Interesting

The Arena
Begeren Colony

A forum user by the name of “Flirtsage” is trying to get interest building for a form of gladiatorial PvP on Begeren Colony. Some variation of one on one, two on two, faction or class-based combat, or any other theme that can be worked with. The entire event appears to be in more of a brainstorming stage at the moment, so anyone on Begeren Colony interested in a PvP event or just in offering their assistance in the matter, head to the post here and see what you can do to get this event onto its feet.

“This week on Gav Daragon”
Gav Daragon

The forum user Ailie on the SWTOR forums has begun a weekly news bulletin for events happening on the Gav Daragon server. The topic covers a wide variety of subjects and looks like it tries to hit as much as it can. It’s not easy trying to gather such information and put it together in a single location. Good luck with this Ailie, it looks like its a lot of work but it’s good to see it being done.

Check it out here and give them some help if you can.

Question!

Well, the results from the last poll are not too off from what I was thinking either. Mostly positive changes with some negatives, which seem to be fairly accurate. Some events I am aware of have been impacted by the rule changes regarding speeders, and similar small changes, but otherwise it has proved to be a massive boon to the community.

This week, I am wondering; how do all of you feel about your server’s community? Is it fun? Active? Are there events? What kind? I have seen different servers keep coming up for events I write about, so I am curious what the players on those servers think about their communities. Let me know below!
