Game Update 2.0: Legacy Achievements

One of the biggest features being introduced in Game Update 2.0 is the Legacy Achievement system.  As you might guess from the title, these are achievements and rewards that are shared across your entire legacy for commonly shared tasks, and include anything from PvP, to space combat, to operations and flashpoints.  For a full overview of the system, as well as a guide on each section, hit the jump.

Overview

Upon logging in for the first time, players will be greeted with a tutorial pane that will explain the Achievement system.  Here is an image of that screen:

Any of you that are familiar with other MMOs will know that achievements are more or less a staple of the environment.  Adding goals and longevity to replay, these give players something to chase after.  For those of you not familiar with this system, allow me to give a basic rundown:  When you complete a task in the game, with a wide range of tasks included, you are now working toward criteria for a certain achievement.  Say that you're on a planet doing a mission, and you've managed to kill some of the local mobs.  Hitting a milestone amount, like 10, 25, or 100, will reward you with an achievement, and that achievement could then further a subsequent, larger, and overarching achievement.  Hunting these down to completion can be quite addicting, and personally I'm a huge fan.  But, with that out of the way, let's get into specifics.

Achievements are divided into seven categories:

  • Companions
  • Flashpoint
  • Legacy
  • Location
  • Operations
  • Player Vs. Player
  • Space

Each larger category for achievements has the potential to net you a reward, anything from a mount, to a title, to even cosmetic items.

Each of these subsequent categories are pretty self explanatory, and offer a wide variety of achievements within each.  So, without further ado, here's a list of the achievements and what you have to do to earn them.

Companions

Each companion has a separate category, and so far each feature the same three achievements with different names.

  • Defeat 100 enemies with ___________ as your active companion.  Rewards 5 prestige points.
  • Defeat 1,000 enemies with ___________ as your active companion.  Rewards 5 prestige points.
  • Reach 10,000 affection with ____________.  Rewards 25 prestige points.

In addition to these specific achievements, there are more general achievements to be had for each class, and they include:

  • Loyalty to the Trooper: Reached maximum affection with all Trooper companions.  Rewards 25 prestige points, as well as 20 Cartel Coins.

As long as some things are retroactive, I'm good. I have 9 50's and I'm not redoing a lot of the crap on them, plus some things can't be redone (ie companion affection, like you mentioned)

I'm a HUGE achievement whore and this is something that I have been wanting to see in the game since forever! But once again, rerolling and alts are thrown in our face with the "complete X on every class" achievements.

It does make sense I suppose, since it is the "Legacy" achievement system. But still, I'd prefer to chase achievements on one character.

And I could be wrong, but did they seriously implement achievements for obtaining items from the Cartel Shop??

You are not required to do all the achievements. Personally I've been hoping for a multiple class achievement system where I earn achievements for leveling the different classes.

I am so happy for this addition! Great news

I just wish codex were also account wide so all pieces of information stick together, for instance, datacrons historical entries would have a clearer way to gather, as well as easier to compile and read.

Let me take a look and get back to you on that.

EDIT: After reviewing the information, it looks like 700, unless I missed a few.

The best part, in my opinion, is that you get 20 at the end of each classes chapter, all the way through chapter 3.  Neat way to reward folks.  I also remember hearing a rumor that the prestige points may be used to redeem rewards in the future, but this remains to be seen.

Any word yet on whether all players get these cartel points, or just the subs?

If I've already maxed a lot of my companions across my 8 classes, will I get credit for those? If it wants me to max them all again on alts I'm going to be pissed.

  • #3 Vox_mortis

As far as I've seen, many of the achievements are retroactive.  Things like companion affection, collected mounts and pets, etc; anything that the game has kept track of in that fashion will be granted to you retroactively.  What remains to be seen, however, are how they're going to handle flashpoint and operations achievements.

But yes, I can verify that at least on the PTS, companion affection was showing as retroactive, so you're good.

  • #4 Tyath

Ok, thats good. My guess is that they won't do it for FPs and Ops because they want you to run those over and over agin, but it would be nice to get credit for my months of HM Flashpoint dailies.

  • #6 chronium

The flashpoint and such should be retroactive as well due to them having different states when you complete a flashpoint for the first time, which is what the trigger for completion would be looking for.

Well, existing codex entries for defeating enemies in flashpoints should make easily tracking the corresponding achievements retroactively.

I also wonder if they would add dates for the achievements, I don't personally mind if it were obtained sooner or later, but it is still nice to look at the dates as a reminder some time later.

If the achievements are dated, then I would really like to see Server First and World First achievements added. A lot of individuals/guilds alike chase after these types of Achievements and they would definitely add to the allure of the Achievement system.

  • #12 Vox_mortis

I agree, it would be nice to see this.  From what I've looked at, there are dates and times on the achievements; so while I don't know if they plan on implementing server/world firsts, at least the achievements keep track of this information.
