Team - I might be in the minority here but I don't think there will be class mirroring at all. when an mmo says that certain classes mirror each other the meta gamers come out and nit pick everything. the graphs come out, the calculators come out and the nerf calls come out. Warhammer suffered from naming class mirrors and all people do is look at the other grass and complain how its greener. BW should say that its faction v faction balanced and do its best to make each class play uniquely that way not only will each class have individual stories but individual playstyles. When you try to go out and mirror classes you water things down.(Imp Agent)
PurpleCliff - Will/should the Imperial Agent be able to use the cover system? Seems weird for it not to be able to (Imp Agent)
Pinio - From the perspective of Expanded Universe, there be no differences between force powers which Jedi and Sith could use, like any other force sensitive groups. Of course, there are unique techniques, developed by some of them but this depend on how isolated those groups are and eventually all can be shared. In game we have many limits, but I think they could solve this problem like it was did in KotOR. The same powers and only your light/dark side affiliation make some techniques easier or harder to master. (Jedi)
Cynder - I am going to explain this via Star Wars Saga. In that game they have light side and dark side descriptors. those powers should be exclusive per side. the general powers should be available to both sides. (Jedi)

Posted 11/11/2009 5:06:23 AMWhy have TOR as an MMO if you can accomplish the majority of tasks individually with your party? Why not then have it be an offline game with online content (instancing and marketplace) What value do companion characters bring to MMO game-play and vice versa. Isn't the point of an MMO to have companion characters that aren't simply an ai script?
(My answer below)
What I see companion characters bringing more than anything else is the Story that has been harped throughout their development trailers. I see them as an anchor for the game world that is created. Although the other live players in the game may RP to various degrees, it can be awkward when the disbelief is no longer suspended and you realize your in front of a screen with 20 other people sitting, rather than actually using a flame thrower or otherwise wielding power only imagined. That simply can't happen with the companion characters. Their only purpose is in the TOR universe, scripted though it may be.
That said I don't see them functioning well in mmo-gameplay tactics why bother grouping with live players then? Let them be an integral part of the single player experience but do not let them take away from the MMO environment. Or let them and have it be beautiful and I can be wrong. I just can't imagine that game play at the moment.
