The problem why it is under-evolved is because PvP and MMO do not mix well. It is almost impossible to balance (In terms of balance like an FPS) and no matter what you do people will rage.

Generally people hate to accepted responsibility for their actions, so they blame it on the other class that beat them.

Also unless you make the game right, which is pretty hard to do, balance in PvP never really works. You can get it the right size but it is still like trying to fit a square into a circle.

Other gameplay footage like more interaction with other players, the vastness of cities, raids, open-world content would be a lot more welcome then PvP.

Since PvP is completely optional in TOR and it is not the key aspect that drives the game I do not see them releasing to much footage on it.

Also do you really want to look at bad animations all of the time? People would be more up in arms about something that usually does not get fixed until the end of development [Animations] then being thankfully for some footage.

Not really buying into the whole " BioWare needs to do something big" to keep the hype or interest going. Throughout the development process its natural for the interest or hype to ebb and flow. Also 99% of the hype is community generated. All BioWare has to do is keep the same pace of updates and info and when the game gets closer to launch I guarantee the "hype" will be at an all time high. All the naysayers and doom bringers will be back as fast as they left.

I've answered yes, but to be honest, a couple weeks ago I would have answered no. I really expected a release around chistmas 2010 for the lattest. And so, I expected a Testing phase reveal around the holidays...
All in all, I'm a bit dissapointed, I'm stuck with solo games for another whole year at least... Guess I'll just have to complete Dragon Age and ME2 at 100% a couple times over, oh well.

In one of the developer documentaries you can see behind him that the planet is in a sort of night phase, to bad I can't remember which video or which planet it was. XD
But I'm certain the player wasn't in some sort of underground dungeon.

i would be happy with whatever kind of BIG update.....i am talking about holonet tab or gameplay...i think most attention will be brought back to bioware when they reveal beta testing.... it is smart to wait with that till later in the year.

It should not be a shocker with Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 in development in the last few months. With these two games out in the market (ME2 in a few weeks), SW:TOR is the next biggest thing BioWare will release and be the forefront for their company to expand their fan base, the development base, and so on to capture the best marketing and business strategy to reveal the best appealing stuff in many months. The year plus is perfect for them to stretch it out and add more fan base for people to see while STO, WoW:C, GA, CoH, GW, Aion, and FFIV start to die out and get monotonous for the RPG minded people. I hope BioWare open up more about the game soon.

The upcoming release should be gameplay systems or beta. They are getting very close to the testing phase. Other times, the timeline would be nice to update more of the game's history. I am a lore guy and a pvp fighter, I like to see some balance of updates in the upcoming months. Once beta comes out, the qqing, the crying, the whinning, and so on will still rage people anyways as they are very selective about that stuff. Patience my friends. Stay positive and reach out for the game, and you will grant good luck in getting beta. :)

I voted for "Gameplay reveal" as I like to analyse and talk about class talents and skills, strengths and weakness plus what possible builds works best (or general talent tree choices). A testing phase start date would also really help – make it kinda feel like it’s all moving forward and bring back the excitement of possibly seeing the game in action and giving input.

Still 100% waiting for TOR and I’ll be there in 2011 without doubt. However, I’ve run outta steam to say much on the official forums now, especially with some topics making there 15th round onto the boards since the beginning… it’s a little tiresome. I check back Saturday am for the Friday updates over a hot cuppa and DH & TOROcast keep me enthusiastic with hearing other fans chatting.

But for now, feel like I need a substitute MMO to have an affair with for a year and a bit as I wait. BW have a plan, good on them, but for me the hype has gone for now – I want something like what the Deceived video did to rev me up again for 2010!

Do you think that BW knew that EA would give details on the Spring 2011? It seems like a bit of a cock-up somehow for some very important information ie one hand not knowing what the other is doing?

I think BioWare may've come to expect it after the EA Pres accidentally revealed TOR's existence in July 2008, resulting in BioWare setting up a quick press junket in October to announce it for real. This makes the second time John Ricitello has spilled the beans on TOR.

I think that not knowing the release window yet helped keep the hype juices flowing.... Game Testing announcements might help a little, but since the majority of the community will not get the opportunity to participate within the next year if at all I hope Bioware has a few tricks up thier sleeves...

In the meen time you will be able to find me patrolling the boarders of Borg space....

    Sto announced 7/28/08 - SWTOR announced 10/21/08
Sto Beta signups announced 10/22/09 - SWTOR "game testing" announced 9/29/09
Sto release 2/2/10 - SWTOR release " late enough in 2011 to not be included in fiscal projections"

I agree. It's going to be really hard for them to keep up the hype for an entire year. I don't see any sort of beta happening any time soon. Probably not till Fall of this year so I don't know how much hype worthy info we will get in the next 3-6 months. It seems like we will probably be getting a Fan Friday once a month for awhile. I would like to see some more time line videos. As far as species go I don't think we will be getting a look at them for a few more months.

Personally I find myself going from checking the official site forums every day to now I just have no desire to look at them and barely spend anytime at all anymore looking at SWTOR info.

IMO way to go EA for ruining the next 3-6 months of SWTOR Hype. What I really hope Bioware does is like AION did and give us a open beta like 2 weeks before release and have that last any where from 3-10 days then close everything down again, delete the characters and then have us wait 4-7 days until release to play, possibly a character name reserve type deal. Just a wish though.

    Hey, here's my question

In some screenshots we can see that the backround of the terrain is not made using the game engine but kinda painted. Do you think it may indicate players won't be able to run freely around a planet ?

    Examples here:

Personally I say there are two options for this. 1: It’s just contemporary and is only a placeholder till actual models are made in game. 2: It’s actually ingame but it’s just hard to tell because of the way the art already looks. It’s either of these, because we know there won’t be "zones" because BW has said that you won’t faze and loud somewhere else, it’s a mechanic they don't want in the game.
  • #20 neth
I remind you that they told us they would reveal only things that are finished.
  • #7 neth
I'm still not convinced. IMO all of this may mean that we will be limited to small areas like in Guild Wars. "Painted backgrounds" don't make sense if there's an open area behind your view distance that you can reach.
  • #14 Snuffy
Do you have any idea how much area they could put between where that pic was taken and the supposed painted wall is? You are talking miles and miles and miles and miles.
