Posted 6/2/2010 5:51:54 PMI think it's wrong ot place planets like Trandosha in a poll about "iconic planets that you would like to see".
However, I would like to have a planet like Trandosha, that kind of planet that haven't been featured much in Star Wars works. Kashyyyk and Corellia for example, have been used a lot already - I think it's awesome with iconic planets, but there's good that there's a bunch of new or "unvisited" planets too.
Nar Shaddaa is like a dark counter-part to Coruscant, while I think Corellia would be too much like Coruscant, another city-spanning core world.
The kind of planets I still miss are a water planet and a tropical planet.
I would love too see Manaan or Dac (Mon Calamari) as the water planet, and Felucia or Kashyyyk could be the tropical planet, or as I said maybe a new planet since they've been used already.
Varteras said: "Rodia and Trandosha just don't strike me as worthwhile planets for them to explore" - the reason there's not much to explore is that they haven't been featured much in SW works! :) The Sith Emperor have withdrawn to persuade his own mysterious goals, some of the planets he demanded in the Treaty of Coruscant may be part of that plan. Rodia, for example, were "given" to the Empire by the Republic.
I would love to visit Trandosha, because I love Trandoshans, though if Trandosha was a playable planet I doubt it would be just shallow, harsh desert/grasslands everywhere - if (let's say) the Empire have taken control and built up many large factories on the planet, one group of Trandos might be fine with it because the Empire supports them with prey for hunt (enemies of the Empire) while another group might hate the Empire and want them gone since they want to be free and hunt as they will (not one good and one bad side, since I cannot think of a "good" group of Trandos :D). Then add some forgotten ruins/an artifact that's uber-strong in the Force or something that the Emperor really is after and voila - we got an interesting planet instead of a boring plain crappy world. Just think of Tatooine, an empty desert at first but then we have the cosy towns, the rocky pillars and small mountains where Tuskens may live, sarlaccs, bantha packs, and most importantly Czerka Corporation's hidden labs, which will possible be the most memorable thing on Tatooine in the TOR-setting, and proves that even a planet of sand can have some things on it that the Republic and the Empire wants. And it's just the same with Hoth. There's no reason to not include planets like Trandosha, Rodia or Kashyyyk because there's not enough content from earlier lore on them.
BTW, maybe it would be epic, and maybe it would be too much cliche, but - think if the neighbour planets Kashyyyk and Trandosha were playable in TOR, with one planet controlled by the Empire and the other by the Republic (Republic controlling Trandosha and Empire controlling Kashyyyk would be awesome and break the trend that species and their planets are always good or always evil). Not only would that introduce two planets whose inhabitants are arch-enemies, but it would also introduce an almost unknown world and a favorite world that represents the movies.

Posted 5/31/2010 6:33:23 PMI loved Corellia in the EU of the books, and always thought it would be cool to check out the famed ship yards.
Question for the podcast:
With every planet revel, I am getting more and more concerned that the planets will have to be limited in terms of size in order to fit all of the content into the game. From your experience playing the game, is there anyway you can gauge the scale of the planets? Would it take you an hour to explore an entire planet on foot, or maybe a few hours?

Posted 5/30/2010 4:19:44 PMThis isn't reallly a question, more a comment or observation for the Podcast. This week's Sith Warrior update was really insightful, particularly the section on the Sith Juggernaut. Some of the description is pretty clearly indicative of tanking:
"Sith who train in the stalwart arts of the Juggernaut boast unrivaled stamina in battle."
"Damage that would destroy others is shrugged off"
However some of the description could be taken to imply melee DPS as well:
"futility fills the Juggernaut's foes with doubt and despair" (Debuffing ability?)
"Protecting their allies and punishing their adversaries"
What excited me most about the Juggernaut was this sentence, "... able to drain the energy of their enemies to further strengthen their resolve." That implies some type of vampire regeneration ability (which could turn out to be a respectable self heal). Such an ability would be nice for both a tank and a DPS.

Posted 5/29/2010 11:39:51 AMI think Nar Shaddaa is a given considering the newest information we received on one of the Sith Warrior's companions, Vette. Mentioning that the Sith Warrior meets her there. Since we don't start the game with a companion and we meet them through our adventures I'd say that is a very powerful indication of it being in the game. Perhaps not 100%, but about as close as you can get without Bioware literally saying 'yes, it's in'. In addition, Nar Shaddaa has been mentioned numerous times in videos and literature pertaining to The Old Republic already.
I do have a few questions for the podcast in regards to the newest information released.
1) It was mentioned by Bioware that you will be able to gear your companion characters. Now this causes me some concern. One of the reasons why I've been against the idea of allowing players to switch Advanced Classes is because I feel that allowing this would cause a gear-sink where one player is basically swallowing up a lot of gear for two different classes at the same time. We all know the tremendous amount of trouble this would cause in group content, especially raids, and it is one such reason why Blizzard and NCSoft do not allow it in World of Warcraft and Aion. However, if they make no distinction between player gear and companion gear this would ultimately cause the same problem, perhaps even worse since we can acquire multiple companions. Do you believe that Bioware will make a distinction between player gear and companion gear to avoid gear-sinks?
2) Since it has now been made painfully aware to us that companion characters will act as stand-ins for areas that our character may lack in, do you feel this is even further indication that Bioware intends Advanced Classes to be permanent since now there will be no excuse for someone wanting to have access to all roles that the archetype class can potentially provide as their companion can provide that for them?
3) This latest information on the Sith Warrior and the companion characters seemed to show a bit heavier of a nod towards trinity than we've seen in the past from Bioware. They seemed to be making implications that tanking, DPS, and healing are more specific and important which goes against what most of us who have been paying attention have come to believe based on what Bioware has said. I'm certainly crossing my fingers that this is just myself and others reading too deeply into certain words being used because I damn sure don't want a WoW-esque trinity in this game. What is your take on the context of these words regarding trinity? Do you think these are words being used in the context of what Bioware has shown us and told us they regard tanks and healers as or do you think it's possible that they may be truly referring to the typical MMO definition of a tank and healer?
P.S. - Wall of text crits you for 30,000!

Posted 5/31/2010 6:29:36 PM2) I think that the advanced class will be a permanent choice based on Bioware's comment about the "importance" of the decision. I think that the companion will fill a roll that the base class cannot fill itself, no matter how you spec. For instance, the Sith Warrior's companion is a ranged class, no matter how you play your SW, ranged isn't an option.
3) I don't think that we have "pure" trinity classes, rather, each class will be able to fulfill each of those rolls, with some being slightly better at the rolls than others. The Sith Warrior as a Juggernaut, will be able to take damage, but may also be able to heal itself with the "drain" ability. If this drain ability is substantial enough, there wouldn't be a need for a healer. Other classes may have similar abilities.
It wouldn't feel very heroic if you had to rely on a pocket healer whenever facing enemies.
