I'm torn on both questions. Do I feel like they released enough at PAX? For me, yes. For the community, well, it's never enough for the voracious horde that is the TOR community, is it?

Do I feel like there needs to be a balance between planets for the Empire and the Republic? Needs...No, I don't they need a balance. However, I do think there will be. As I commented on the podcast post, The Sith have been in the galaxy anywhere from 40 - 60 years. Their government has been legitimized by the Treaty of Coruscant for 10 - 30 of those years. There are certainly plenty of planets that could be brought in on the Empire's side. For example, Begeren was retaken in the Blood of the Empire comic. Also, the timeline videos showed that multiple systems in the early days of the war had Sith backed, puppet governments that switched sides very quickly, like Sernpidal.

Do you feel that the number of planets have to be balanced for both Sith and Republic?

    - No, as long as Sith aren't restricted from most of the Republic planets except for Tython, it's fine.

One question i've wanted to ask. Don't know if it's already been asked anywhere else. Do you think each server will be layered to stop overcrowding etc such as in LOTRO?
And on the LOTRO subject - who else has taken advantage of free-play? Drastic manoeuvre ahead of SWTOR release maybe?

I think civil war, Sith invasion and occupation will be ripe on many of the planets labelled as so called Republic (especially factoring in the forced withdrawal of support to many planets after the Treaty of Coruscant). You want to be able to run into the opposing faction on these planets for open PvP, so the idea of the Sith taking hold and causing upheaval on traditional Republic planets is perfect.

The Republic planets are countries and lands of Europe, US, Africa, Russia etc during WWII ie The Allies. The Sith are the Axis/Germany - kicking arse early on and taking over (really one main force/country vs. many!). I guess that makes the Mandalorians Japan? Anyway - oh look a llama *runs off distracted* :-p

Sith are INVDING, its kind of logic that they (in this "patch"!!) don't have that many homeworlds or allians planets.
  • #34 abner_ford
No, they've invaded. There is a treaty in place where some planets have been surrendered to the Sith Empire. There is now a cold war going on.

I, as a Sith player, voted "No" on the second poll because I'd like the Empire to have -less- planets than the Republic.

I personally see the Republic as this "big clumsy beast" that obviously has three times the planets the Empire has. Where all their worlds are in chaos, the Empire's handful of planets are ruled by powerful law and order. The Empire goes for quality before quantity, not recklessly adding 'useless' planets to their existence and not before properly ensnaring the loyalty of a planet as a whole.

Also, I like the thought of being a Sith on a Republic planet. It means I'm fighting on -their- ground, which makes me feel like the superior force. It also creates the feeling that we are on the attack. We're getting in there, we're taking land and names for the Sith Empire. For me personally, it'd make me feel like I'm on the winning side.

I'm a lil disappionted in all the "No"s on the PAX thing, combine it all and we got to see half an hour of ingame footage? Feels like the game is almost ready to me. I'm pretty happy with it.

What is your stance on pop culture references within TOR? Do you think they are a good source of lightheartedness within the universe or a detraction from your immersion?

Obviously there is a range to which pop culture can be integrated within the game, but one starting point for the discussion is - Would you be opposed to an alien found in some obscure location on Hoth subtly making a reference to a popular internet meme? What if it was a Star Wars meme ("It's a trap!")?

I've always enjoyed such little in-game jokes. Though it's a fine line to balance, as it can become too much. WoW for example is going too far in it sometimes, yet has a very subtle way of bringing it in general. Though I have a feeling they're taking stuff less and less serious with Cataclysm, with that whole "Deathwing Quest" thing being one big joke (if you've seen it).

What will affect your choice in picking a companion character? Will it be the combat role they play (dps, tank, healer), the species and/or class they are, or their background story and possible love interest?
  • #27 Fedaykin
    (Shallowness warning!)

I'll always go with 'the cute one', I know what it must seem like but I can't help it. Bastila or Liara just wheren't staying on the ship.. no chance. And if Bounty Hunters / Sith Inquisitors don't come with that type of character.. well.. then I'll just have to go with the "best bud" character like Carth or Alenko.

I wonder if Bio thought to give the primary love interests (M and F) complementary roles to your class for soloing, because that's where companion interaction is most important. The double-your-role companions (much more useful in grouping) might be more exotic, old, etc.

For me, it will be what role they serve. Which one will be best for PvE, PvP, et cetera.

The second question is particularly tricky for me. I would almost prefer there to be an imbalance in the number of planets allocated to the Republic and the Empire. If we recall the Republic controlled most of the planets we will be able to visit in TOR, granted the Empire has asserted their control over many of the planets, there are still many other planets still in limbo. In my opinion there will be an interesting gameplay dynamic (pvp?) in place if the majority of planets are Republic aligned.

It also seems strange to me to suggest that the Empire will control X planets and the Republic will control X planets and they'll just kill czerka mercs on their respective planets until their eyes bleed with no real reason to come in contact with each other. The majority of planets will probably be like a Cornellia or a Balmorra where we might enter the planet which was previously (and perhaps still is) republic space and then we might become immersed into the planets story and really feel like we can make some sort of tangible difference and help secure that planet for our faction.

I was just hoping for a big announcement about some game-play mechanics/features. Don't get me wrong, HK & Revan are definitely a big deal, but it would have been nice to hear some details about crafting, guilds, raiding, open PVP, etc.

Oh well, I guess we have the next 7 months to find out.................

As far as the planets----equal numbers are not necessary. As long as the content available for each side is equally fun and engaging. I do hope that "we" are able to venture to any planet we choose, with the expectation that some risk may be involved with some of those ventures.
