I don't think that you can rule out Droidmaker/engineer from the professions list. Since there is the bioengineer profession and there are a wide variety of enhanced people in the sw lore. luke, vader, malgus, that eye patch girl. So if bioengineers can augment people (and companions are people too) why not have a droidenginner profession who may or may not be able to built new droids (either a new companion or one that works like a useable item/ability) or just plain out pimp droid companions.
    I definetly think it's possible.

Sado's problem with the companions is really unlikely in TOR. Remember, they made a handful in ME/DA that had to be shared by all classes. Here, they're making a separate bunch of companions *for each class*, so Bio can tell in advance what roles you'll fill and what roles you definitely won't fill. Each companion should, unless somebody's really messed up, be a different flavor of complement to your particular class options.
  • #27 agentwred
True, but there are multiple different ways of playing each class, as so certain companions will fit your play style more than others, which may change depending on whether you are soloing or in a party, etc. Nonetheless, there probably won't be one specific companion that is the constant no-brainer choice.

I'm excited to have to make a choice of who to bring along in order to max my crew's work, progress a companion's story, bring the companion best fit for my style of play, and just liking the character and comments a companion makes.

New Companion Hints or Reveals here from inhabitants page?

"The Sith have an appreciation for this (Vine Cat's) show of strength and domination, and it is likely they will continue carrying these (vine cat) creatures with them to new worlds." = a vine cat as a companion for inquisitors and/or warriors? Possibly named with a Proper Noun like "southpaw" or "claw" or something?

"The biological engineering firm responsible for the Salky Hounds has been marketing the creatures on the black market. Several criminal and mercenary organizations have purchased the Salky Hounds. Rumors suggest some of these dangerous beasts have even been purchased by entities on Coruscant. " = skalky hounds as bounty hunter and/or smuggler companion? Perhaps a unique one...again with a proper name like "Threxx" or somethin'?

Bioware has done something similar in Dragon Age where you PVE against mabari war hounds (if you are very unlucky) but you have one as a companion as well. I think his name was "Dog."

Also, someone once observed that on the smuggler (or other class) ship there was something resembling an animal kennel. Admittedly, the BW quote on skalky hounds is a little less specific but the description of the vine cat screams potential companion to me. Though I am not currently in a position to beta so may be others aren't speculating because they've tested the entire stories of these classes and no they aren't companions.

I could see a vine cat companion, however, for inquisitor or warrior. I think because they chose to reveal these creatures as inhabitants rather than companions doesn't exclude them from being both. There was nothing in the Tarentatek or gundark profiles that made me think they will be anything but mob spawns but I could see an Inquisitor all loving on his vine-cat like the villain in Dr. Strangelove.

First time poster here. I just thought some one else might have already pointed out this possible reveal or hint of a reveal but no one did. So here I go. Any thoughts on this?

    sorry for lurking =P

What? Companions aren't crafting lightsabers? So you mean the devs aren't douchebags who are making a star wars game without a real understanding of star wars lore? Well now I feel bad for doubting them and freaking out about the whole lightsaber thing. Oh, wait, no, that was everybody else, not me. Hey, how about giving them a little faith now, huh? I know I know, its the internet. That's never gonna happen.

Nice job Dover! Tanking that Massive podcast! I liked the podcast. Yeah, it ran a little long, but you guys covered a whole lot of good stuff. Great work once again.
  • #13 Galaks
I'd like to see some kind of ship engineering skill.

On the reviving discussion, the reason I think everyone will have an OoC rezz is for companions. It would suck to have to find a healer or some special NPC if your companion died while soloing, and it would be immersion breaking to be able to revive companions, but not other players, so as a compromise everyone gets an OoC rezz, and the healing capable classes will get an IC rezz to go with their OoC rezz in their healing trees.

As far as the lightsaber drops, I'm hoping you can deconstruct boss lightsabers. That way if your group is Guardian, Sentinel, Sage, Shadow, (or the Sith equivalent) One of you can get the hilt, one can get the power crystal, one can get the focusing lens, and one can get the emitter. Then you can upgrade your saber with those parts. Kind of like disenchanting items in other games to get the materials for different enchantments. That's my 2 credits anyway.
  • #20 agentwred
Maybe certain hilts can give you a new attack skill. Something simple but allows a little extra damage or a slightly faster cooldown/animation. Or perhaps its just a different animation for your basic attack. That would be a minor cosmetic thing, but would be cool to give a slightly different fighting style than everyone else due to constructing a lightsaber from the hilt of a fallen enemy. Its like learning from a defeated enemy and stealing part of his combat style that goes with his specific lightsaber built.
  • #16 Mortain
    I like that idea...
  • #9 Mortain
when it comes to light sabers what i want to know is can anyone loot or pick up a light saber and maybe sell it to a vendor or AH? seems like a shame to work so hard to kill a jedi or sith and not be able to at least keep the light saber as a trophy...
