It is podcast time this week, and as always, we're looking for questions from the community. If you have any Star Wars: The Old Republic or website related questions you would like to have answered on the podcast, then feel free to ask them in the comment section of this post.
This week's community poll/discussion after the jump.
We also take questions via Twitter. If you would like to send your question using that method, point your question to @realdarthhater and it will be grouped with the other submissions.
Did following the development of SWTOR increase your interest in learning more about Star Wars?
I can't just give one answer. I go by my mood and my mood would probably include any of these at any given time. All I ask from the game is keep me busy, keep me striving for completion and make it fun.
Crew skills are interesting and dynamic of what we know so far. I have been the most excited about this feature of all the announcements so far.
Crafting in the mmos I've played have always been boring, with the exception of SWG, which I found to be more "realistic". Though I never played a crafter in that game, I absolutely HATE having to take time out to go farm mats to level whatever profession I've chosen, and in SWG it was nothing to drop a harvester for a crafting friend, while heading out to kill rebels (I was pro Imperial all the way, lol). "Hmm, let me take a break from advancing the causes of my side, to go pick flowers" always seems anti-clamatic to me. I like the podcast that spoke about Darth Vader not stopping to gather resources, but sending his minions. Then, we find out that's exactly what we're getting. That coupled with the interactions we'll be having with our companions means that our "crew" will actually FEEL like a crew, and not a bunch of npcs standing around that I want to punch for being in the way.
This crafting system actually already feels less like a dreadful chore and more like a fun mini game. And, I'd love an app for the iphone and droid that would allow for us to check up on the crafting progress of our companions, maybe even be able to send them on missions. I would definitely pay for that app! :D Would make going to places like the dentist "fun" (up unitl you're actually in the chair :P ).
I like the crew skills, i like the idea of being the hero and still be able to craft and everything else your companions can do, looking forward to the rest of the skills! can't wait to plan my character before launch!
I like Crew Skills because BioWare basically took the "suck" out of crafting. Crafting in most other MMOs is a time/money sink. Crew Skills feels more like a game to me and less like a second job that has overly repetitive boring content. In SWTOR I feel like I'll finally be able to have actual FUN while gathering & crafting. And I don't like how unrealistic other crafting systems are either.
1)in every game where you have companions and the ones not in your group are back at the home base I always wondered in the back of my head what they were doing. I'm playing Fallout New Vegas and when I go to my hotel room and see it filled with companions pathing around I wish they would make themselves useful.
2)different than what I'm used to
3)Seems it can be very deep if you invest time into it
I like what I've seen from the crafting because I simply do not have the time to dedicate hours upon hours to harvesting resources for that facet of the game anymore in my life. This helps get around that a bit while still feeling constructive, not to mention the bonus to making your companions even more involved in your character's adventures.
Secondly, I like the fact that, even if they don't achieve this out of the gate, they are speaking about what crafting players want. Whether they're hardcore or casual, they're trying to implement a system to appease both playstyles and make crafting cool for both. Again, we'll see how this works in practice, but it's a good sign that they are well aware of what people want.
P.S. I wish I could've picked multiple options for the lore question. I replayed KOTOR 1 (with KOTOR 2 coming soon), read up on the Star Wars wiki, AND read Fatal Alliance.
I have three questions inspired by Justin's dissatisfaction with the color scheme of the Bounty Hunter ship.
1. Can players customize the paint job and decals of their starships to make them more unique from other players?
2. Will weapon and armor upgrades be available for the ships, and if so, will it change the ships outward appearance?
3. Can a player customize the interior spaces of their starship?
The Bounty Hunter may start off with a flying scrapheap, but by endgame he's probably amassed enough credits to re-outfit his ship with shiny new armor and even bigger guns.
I thought I remembered reading somewhere about being able to put trophies or something in your ship, like Dark Age of Camelot you could have trophies made of some bosses etc and put them in your house. It was one of those offhand kind of comments though, no idea where I read it. Would definitely be cool to have some crazy Star Wars trophies in your ship.
Crafting has ALWAYS seemed contrived. Whenever you can hide the contrived nature of crafting the better. I haven't played every MMO out there (SWG being a relevant omission) but somehow making a throwaway low level armor to sell to the closest vendor to advance a stupid status bar has always seemed like a really lame excuse for a game mechanic. I can't make a sandwich in 5 sec., so how in hell is my character supposed to make an intricate abalated anti-blaster armor chest piece in the same amount of time?
Kudos to BioWare for creating a more immersive crafting system.
I can make a sandwhich in 5 sec. It is a low level sandwhich that my dog won't eat, but if I have the mats I can make it. Really good point by the way!
"I like it (Explain why)" cannot... disobey... poll....

I really like the idea of the crew skills system not because of the crafting, but because of the companion interactions. it seems to make the game 'come alive' moreso than what has already been done in previous MMOs, RPGs, and the combo of the two.
the companion system, without the crew skills system, would just be a group of potential AI partners where, not only is only one used at a time, but majority of people would just choose their favorite every time; causing the rest of the companions to be moot.
In KOTOR and Mass Effect I tried to vary it, but definitely in Dragon Age I had the same crew with me the whole time. I went standard trinity with Alistair tanking, Wynne healing, and my blood mage and Leliana doing ranged damage. Plowing through people.
Question 2 should've allowed multiple anwsers, I wanted to check options 1,3,4,5,6, & 7. As far as crew skills, I love the concept, can't wait to see the execution.
How do you think repairing items will be handled? By crafters? (please see your past dissections from E3 on items that say in their description 'can be taken to a crafter to be repaired' basically.) and thus where would this fall into the crew skills section, under crafting? (it's not gathering and it's not a mission) meaning you could be a full time repair dude who can't craft at all?
What do you believe the other 3 Crafting skills will be? Weaponsmith? Droid-making? Repair?
