It is podcast time this week, and as always, we're looking for questions from the community. If you have any Star Wars: The Old Republic or website related questions you would like to have answered on the podcast, then feel free to ask them in the comment section of this post.
This week's community poll/discussion after the jump.
We also take questions via Twitter. If you would like to send your question using that method, point your question to @realdarthhater and it will be grouped with the other submissions.
For class and role I've always wanted to play the class that is ranged w/healing option. Which lets me bounce back n forth with the IA & SI.
For "Are you looking to take part in the testing program?" I put no(other) because I have given up all hope of being selected for testing.
Thanks to past affiliations and infractions for various forum activities I am quiet sure that I am on a no-fly list. My guess is that my IP is being watch'd should I say something stupid that turns out to be true; form there a joint BioWare Lucas wet team will spring into action.
Meanwhile I keep having dream that I'm sure has something to do with TOR. In it I'm on an island where a man calls me Verger while asking me what 847884788478 means, while some guy who sounds like Gary Oldman yells "Am I Rosencrantz or Guildenstern"
Global Channels: Like someone else before me, I believe there should be world global channels. It helps with looking for groups(unless there is a working looking for group function at launch) and allows the community to communicate with each other. If the world channels are limited to where you're located you could be talking to yourself for a very long time. I think the point of playing an MMO vs Single Player game is that community aspect and while people don't know each other, they still like to talk about things going on in the real world or within TOR itself.
As for a global realm channel, i'd say no to that. It invites too much spam directly to all users and with something that big depending on the realm a user would be hard pressed to have a real conversation with other users.
Now that they announced Arms tech and Armor tech, Is there any chance that they will announce a droid crafting?
Maybe Droid tech? I put up a post in the general discussion forum but I wanted to get the DH staff's opinion but more importantly, who would attempt it?
I suspect that droids won't be able to equip the same types of armor as organic companions. In KOTOR, all the droids used separate armor, but not weapons. I would expect that something of each type of gear will be possible to craft in the game. I wonder if droid items would fall under a specialization of Armormech, or if they would separate it. I think droid items will be niche enough to be apart of Armormech, and not on it's own.
I don't think players will be able to create whole droids however. What would be the purpose? Crafting a new companion?
I guess that I am one of the few that wants global chat channels. Now, I personally take that to mean that the channel will be available for the world you are on, and not for every world in the game. My main class is going to be a Juggernaut, but a BH dps role does sound like a lot of fun as well. It is good to see how well distributed the dps, tanking, and healing roles are for each faction. It follows the traditional pattern of several dps, a tank and a healer for each group. Although it looks like if you want to play as a primary healer, you'll be very popular.
A question I'm curious about is how much influence the classes/roles of player's friends will have on what class/role they choose. I'm the type of person who would play a different class or role if it fit better into the group dynamic.
i don't think roles will change based on their friends' chosen roles because companion characters and other players met in-game will provide coverage to fill in any gaps in the group.
faction, on the other hand, will probably be very heavily influenced because there isn't any indication at the moment of cross-faction grouping until endgame.
I, myself, will be playing juggernaut and my friend irl will be playing one of the two BH classes. even if he chose powertech, it wouldn't matter; we'd specialize in mowing down republic troops by the scores as darth vader and boba fett, while merely recruiting other players for particularly difficult bosses if companions are not enough.
No testing for me. Even if my computer could pass the muster, I don't want to play until it's presentable.
Global Chat... why not? You can always turn it off.
Mercenary for now. I haven't changed my mind too much, but I will play them all sooner or later regardless.
As for my role... Empire DPS, but I'll solo and treat TOR more like Red Dead's multi-player than an MMO. I'm in it for the story.
Now onto my questions:
Do you plan on doing a PC build podcast again? I liked the last one you guys did, and figure it's a good time to do another since it's December and there's holiday deals aplenty.
Since Bioware mentioned they're interested in a legacy system, could you delve into the pro's and con's of one? I like the cosmetic ideas I've heard, such as unlocking race/class combos that you normally wouldn't see.
I'll admit, I'm curious at to know what the overall faction choice would have been. What would you play first, The Republic or The Empire. I could add it up from the polls, but I'm far too lazy.
Interesting how the percentages worked out comparing faction to faction, of Dps(30%), tanks (12%) and healers(8%). Almost the exact same numbers. When looking at another MMO most of us play. It seems to me that it is Dps, healers then tanks. Wont it be nice if we dont have to wait for tanks anymore? Im guessing that there will be alot of heal type companions players will be using.
I hope they tweak the healing around, and a lot. As it is right now, it seems like a really, really lame job, and as a person who's spend majority of his WoW time as a healer, I'd rather they remove the need for player healers altogether if it's to stay the same way.
I think it comes down to how many skills does a single healer have to use, and are all of those skills useful enough to discourage spamming one skill. On top of that, what will differentiate one healing class from another in terms of play style. I actually think healing is the most engaging role, although it's often the least exciting. I played a resto druid in WoW, and loved it. If healing in TOR is as good as WoW, I will be shocked.
At this point, I'm torn on who my main will be. I've been a healer for the past few years, and enjoy it immensely, but I also like to dps from time to time, and the Operative Agent sounds like it'll be alot of fun, combining two aspects of mmos that I like and perform well(or wellish re DPS). I voted yes on global channels because if you don't like it, you can turn it off. I enjoy the ridiculous, over-the-top stuff people yammer on about, to a point, and from a world pvp aspect, having a what I assume to be planet-wide channel is invaluable because no one, in my experience, uses the Local Defense channel in WoW. In Warhammer, we all used the region chat to stay coordinated, making many things easier.
