I want BW to release system requirements because .... well.... how am i supposed to know what new PC parts I should buy?

3 year old PC, I really need to upgrade it...not so much just for SWTOR, but it's nice to have an excuse :)

Would love to build a new system from the ground up, but with the economy and job market being what it is I might have to settle for upgrading my current system if that's only just some more ram and a new grapics card to get by. For this reason also it would be nice for BW to release their recommended specs prior to release date.

In regard to Jedi Immersion Day though I voted that I'd still be playing a Jedi it's still a toss-up between a Knight and Bounty Hunter. The deciding factor will probably come down to what faction all my friends that I drag over from other MMO's gravitate to.

As for pvp being competitive and integral I'm kinda on the fence. Of course it needs to be competitive, as an earlier post stated WoW's take on pvp- be that battlegrounds or arenas- is just another grind for the most part. Where Warhammer or DAoC does it is definitely interesting and a refreshing take on it, casual gamers that don't have multiple hours every day to invest in their gameplay then only benefit if they just happen to be on that day/week/month's winning faction. And I'm sure if ya ask some of the more hard-core gamers that bang away 4+ hours a day to accomplish such things I have no doubt that some of them feel that the casual gamers are simply riding their coat-tails and taking advantage of someone else's hard work. It is trully a hard line to walk between making something deep enough for the hard-core and and accessible enough for the casuals without stepping too far one way or the other to either side.

I have faith that BW is working their hardest to accomplish all these things and more, but only time will tell if they actually do so.

I may upgrade the CPU to a AMD x6 and my ram to 8gb, but don't really think I need to.

I will most likely purchase a new computer but mostly because I didn't update my computer for a long time. Hopefully you will be able to play on highest settings with it. I remember Everquest 2 was unable to play on highest settings at the start which was quiet a bummer.

    Explanations:
Did Jedi Immersion Day sway your main class choice at all?
    - Did not see an accurate answer. Jedi immersion day did not sway me, but I am still undecided. I know I want to play an Imperial support class - I'm torn between Inquisitor and Agent.

Are you looking to upgrade or build/purchase a new PC in the next six months?
    - No. My PC is only a few months old and games look absolutely beautiful.

Would you like BioWare to release recommended specs before the announcement of a Release Date?
    - I just want a release date, already!
  • #103 ObiTinKenobi
What do you think the consequences of designers revealing their intentions with different specs would be?

How far should they go? Should they spotlight testers who are supposedly top PVE and PVP players and discuss their specs and how they use them? What would the benefits be to veteran players? What about newbies?

I do plan on building/rebuilding even though my current system will likely be able to play it all out. I plan on replacing my mobo/CPU (most likely the phenom X6 black), graphics, power, and possibly slapping in a SSHDD. My son's has to be able to play it too and well then mine has to be able to play anything in the next 5 years all out lol.

    The pvp questions:
Do you mean competitive as in the way Mythic did DAoC and Warhammer or in the vein of arenas in WoW? If we're talkin' DAoC or Warhammer styled then yes I'm all for competitive. The idea of PvP granting or blocking access to certain worlds based on the outcome sounds perfect to the game and something that is time tested fun. Who doesn't like to take part in epic battles? If we're talking about the way Blizzard has approached PvP I would have to say no. Blizzard's approach while fun on occasion is lacking. It's boorish and trite and that's being kind. Just another grind really.

I just bought new gaming PC and own 1 year old gaming notebook. I pretty sure I'll be fine.

Well, I wasn't sure which class to play but given my experience and joy I had playing KotOR1 &2 with consular type builds that was always going to be my first choice. The reviews here and on Torocast made it very clear that it was an interesting story introduction.

I am meandering around in LotRO right now, I have played off and on since the beginning. I finally started rolling a new character and have realized how much I loathe the deed system. It essentially makes grinding a necessary part of the game despite designing a game where questing to max level was a very real alternative. I don't get it.

I played DAoC since the beta until about the release of the Labyrinth expansion and the introduction of Trials of Atlantis, a very heavy PvE content expansion was fine, but it greatly altered the PvP gameplay. Before the expansion it was possible to grind/quest a toon up to 50 in relatively short order and get your epic gear from your level 50 quest line, plus a drop or two from the Dragon of your realm and you were good to go.

If I had not been in a terrific guild ToA would have killed the game for me. Having said all that, I really do want PvP to be an alternative. I want to go to battlegrounds or have open areas of various planets. As long as class quest lines do not lead you into such zones, I will be a part time participant.

I do want the recommended specs if only to know whether I need to build a new computer right away or wait until a few months after release. It's about time even without TOR.

I have to say, I am done with grinding. Part of the reason I adored guild wars, post Nightfall was that it was possible to quest up to 20 without much difficulty, and voila, at max level you could do many different things. There were many options, especially post Factions and Eye of the North. It was a quality title that entertained me for quite a while. There was a bit of grind, and a few kill x quests, but generally they were avoidable. There was mob hunting for drops a la Diablo 2, which I don't mind so much and there was some pretty fun PvP for when you wanted to indulge.

Having said that, I am done with grinding. A few too many toons in DAoC made it impossible for me to level a character in WoW, and I was out of the genre until EVE pulled me in for a bit. The ability to "level" whilst sleeping, working or whatever was pretty neat, but I never really delved into the depths of the game because I found now I needed to grind for faction...

I want story, I wanted KotOR 3, and I got this. Well, it will have to do, and the way they talk, it may do it...better? I will watch every cinematic in it's entirety and listen to every voice dialogue until its conclusion.
  • #100 DarthSerious
If you were hoping for Kotor 3, then Tor is a way better translation of what it could have been.

Personaly I am going to go for the warrior, sith warrior to be exact. I will probably play a knight after just to contrast them. Should make it more interesting that way.

Ill probably end up doing the same for consular and inquisitor.

I would rather see this as a pvp element instead of something you actually are forced into taking part in and dont get me wrong I like pvp and I am not all that bad at it not the greatest but not the worst either. I dont want to have to put up with people's snide remarks cause there entire team just focused on you and wiped you out in a matter of seconds if that and got teabaged at the end of my 2 second struggle in the "warzone". Lets face it people in general as a whole lack luster in the manner department since there is no actual confrontation or punishment for being a prick so to speak unless you count a couple day suspension which lets be honest isnt all that bad comparatively to what you did to get it. Also no one ever heard of Han solo getting teabagged while he was put into carbonite or princess Leia being snail trailed by a storm trooper.

The last question is kind of silly to me. They already said that SW: TOR will be running Direct X 9.0c graphics. That just about covers minimum specs for anyone who can play any other Dx 9,0c game at medium or full graphics. This is also the reason why I don't need to build a new PC for TOR. I have a quad-core processor and 2 8800GTs in SLI, non-overclocked at 2.66 GHz on a 780i mobo. My box is absolutely above the requirements for SW: TOR based on the information they have already given us about Direct X. Sorry, I can't remember what site it was from, but it was during an interview about the Hero engine with some BioWare employees.

Stuff like this is why I want to so see where the 'limits' of the game are reached - and where having better computer means little.

  • #90 flem1
And here I thought "recommended specs" meant for your computer! You know, like the rest of the questions. ;)

Right now just under 40% of players say they want to play Jedi main. Given the even DS/LS split here, that doesn't leave much room for Smugglers and Troopers... Until their day anyway.
