I wonder if the Guild Wars 2 site get this much hate? They dont seem to have this much information coming from the devs. Lots of passion from the community and we all know what that leads to. If you think about it I dont recall any game getting this much information out to the community or being talked about as often. Heck look at the fan sites and podcasts for this one game. Can hype hurt?

When Guild Wars 2 releases information though it is stuff people want to know. Not fan fridays.. biographies.. rather stuff about the gameplay. So I'd go a month without updates easily if I could actually find out new information about the game itself.

    1. I love exploration, so loved that aspect of it.
    2. Hmm, I love exploration, so I'd love more on that aspect. Especially screenshots that are scale oriented. I love the scope and range of some of these zones.
    3. Hell yes. Any time developers have direct communication with the fans is a plus, and for them to go the extra mile and visit the fans directly on other sites to communicate, well, that's just nifty.

Keep up the good work Haters.

Well we're at least getting a Fan Friday update today and one of the polls is about your favourite community and Darth Hater is one of them.

    The last question is misleading.

Of course most would choose "once in game, but not polished". But there is a stage in between in-game and at-conception. The Developers don't have to report to us every time they come up with an idea, but it would be constructive if they let the community know ahead of time. That is, much before release or even beta testing, so that to leave enough time necessary for corrections.

The current PR policy creates the illusion of cooperation, but in actuality the Team is very secretive and there is more info (many times erroneous) coming out of third-party sites, such as popular magazines, than the official site.

I voted for AC trainer abilities on the first poll because, well, I'm too interested in the story to read or watch any spoilers about it. So that's what was left.

I feel like people are putting all the blame on the devs/community managers for the lack of an awesome forum etc. I would rate it as average at the moment. And sure, there are somethings the devs need to work on. However, I think just as much if not more need to be put on the community itself. They need to look at the way they're acting as well and wonder at what they can do to create a better atmosphere/relationship.

Everyone is pointning the finger at the devs like all the issues are because of them. Sean did this and Stephen didn't, why doesn't he coddle us? Why didn't they spill the beans days in advance on the friday update and ruin the surprise? etc etc etc etc etc. Knowing in advance that the update isn't going to be up your alley isn't going to stop you from complaining about it not being good. The community needs to get a grip.

As a potential customer, we have our personal level of expectations on the service the CM's will give.

While some see them as 'doing us a favor', others see them as 'trying to get us to buy their game'.

I see them as someone trying to get me to buy their game, and thus in a sense, working for my dollar. As such, I have levels of expectation. And when they do not meet those levels, I am going to comment about it.

They have not closed threads about the lack of information, nor did Stephen say we are no longer allowed to voice feedback, nor that we must accept his reasons and be satiated. So they are still open to feedback, and might actually want to hear the negative feedback, to find areas of opportunity.

Coddling a business and not hurting their feelings, doesn't help them, when the market eats MMOs as dinner mints.

I want them to be on their toes and 'scared' of failure, instead of having false sense of security and think they have success 'hands down'.

I will 'thank them' with giving them my money for their product, instead of being kind now, but not giving them my money because they came up short.

For the last question, I feel that a mix of the 2nd and 3rd choices would be best. I feel like they could slap together a video for say, character creation, and say "Hey, check this out but bear in mind it's a work in progress" and they could talk a bit more about playable races by saying "we are shooting for 10 playable races at launch with maybe more later on but we haven't decided yet".
Blizzard has established a pretty good rep with the community by being able to talk about their design choices, including upcoming stuff, some of which never make it in the game or are severely altered.

"Once it is in the game, but not polished, or only partially in the game."

I prefer this, because a good idea/premise will generally be able to stand on its feet long before it is polished. A bad idea will always be bad, no matter how much lipstick you try to put on it.

Ime, its the pretending that customers will do an about face about things they dislike at release, is why a lot of games tend to have issues.

A good example is the Sector Space Map in STO. Cryptic is finally implementing changes that were requested/submitted throughout beta. They told the testers it will get better and you will like it. Release comes and goes, and now a year later, we see Cryptic acknowledging and implementing the changes Beta Testers railed about 15 months earlier.

Overall, I think it is better to start getting feedback sooner, rather than later.

On the last line of your comment, that's why they have people in testing the game now. They're providing them with feedback on the game now, because they're playing the game and experiencing it in a much fuller form than anyone in the community who's just throwing ideas/theories at the wall. I trust that they're listening to their testers because in interviews the devs have said they've changed things through testing and will continue to change things as they find the right balance. So clearly they're listening to someone.

I goofed on the question: How would you rate the interaction between the community team and the community itself? For whatever reason I thought you were talking about this community and Darth Hater. For what it's worth I voted, "Great!"

I agree with chronium on an average vote though. It seemed to change once the Seanburg flew the coop.

I wasn't able to reply to the first two questions, I wasn't really that actively following things around Jedi Immersion Day - on the account of the community interaction it's fantastic imho. Thumbs up for BioWare. On the account of information - don't realise it till you're sure. I might understand if something doesn't make it, but "people" as a crowd are pretty dumb and unforthcoming - don't get yourself into trouble over it.
