    call me weird...
but I like buying the retail and having the box/case/w/e it'll be in. and looking at the cover and back 100 times :P

Looking to see what options are available first, but it looks like I will probably buy the box.

With all those lines of dialogue TOR is going to be HUGE, physically, and that will take hours if not days to download. Patching will still take hours, but only a fraction of the time it takes to download a fresh copy.

On the other hand, EA is seriously endeavoring to shove Origin down our throats, so they will most likely include some pretty swank little in-game tchotchkes as "Origin exclusives". Add to that an extremely likely pre-download leading up to a minute-one launch and digital is very tempting.

As to the other, I'm located across the continent, so SDCC is just a news event to me.

I can definately say no to Comic Con, but all I can say about how I am going to buy it is that I am not ready to release that information yet, but I will definately make that information available some time in 2011.

That statement is just bloody marvelous.

    Well played, sir!

In previous MMOs it seems Tanks and Healers (players who are willing to tank and heal that is) are always in short supply compared to DPS. From what has been mentioned, there are a lot of classes in SWTOR that can tank and heal. Just because a class CAN tank or heal does not mean the player WILL tank or heal though. Do you think since many classes are able to tank/heal that the shortage of tanks/healers will persist, or do you think they will be common enough that tanks/healers will not be in such high demand (or maybe not as needed)?
  • #71 Mesare
It's off-topic, but people dislike the responsibility of the tank/healer role so there will always be a lack of them.

I think the first question would have been more accurate if it was: Are you planning on buy SW:TOR retail or digitally?

I say this just because looking at the next question on Pre-Orders, if that many people want to pre-order, I highly doubt they want to mess about with retail stores/shipping fees/possibility of being one or multiple days late.

For me it's a little bit of a no-brainer, I save Shipping, retail markup and taxes if I buy it digitally. Unless the collectors edition has a real speeder bike I can't get digitally, I'm almost certainly going to buy on Origins.

I built my current computer without any physical optical drive, so digital download it is!

    That just blew my mind.

I will be pre-ordering from Amazon with release-day delivery since it won't be on Steam. Unless Bioware breaks out some server voodoo, the servers are all going to be inundated on launch day and barely playable anyways. After I secure the names I want, I am in no rush.

Agreed. Launch days/week usually are a 'land rush' anyway. I prefer to start a little later, so I can enjoy the game after the dust clears.
  • #74 Kaiser
I like to start on launch day so I can say "I was there when..." :) but yes, they are a land grab, but I don't want to start "later", more "take it easy" rather than rush through the content.

I'll most likely be creating one of every single class, test out the starter zones of each and tweak with some of their abilities to get a real feel, watch all the cinematics, all that stuff. Then once I'm done with that my main's starter area will have mostly cleared, meaning I can breeze through no problem!

I agree with this - the WHOLE reason i'm so incredibly stoked for this game is the story. Considering that every class is appealing to me I'll probably try a couple new toons just to see what the story feels like for a few levels.

You do realize that you would likely be ordering a box with whatever Gold version got pressed and then you would be patching the game via an Origins patcher/downloader?

If you want the discs/box and all that stuff, than it's all cool, however if you just want to "dodge" origins by paying more money to have it delivered... I'd rethink your decision.
