    I've actually had a rethink of this entire commendation system. A rating system is a horrible idea, which is why I'm not bothering to continue on that subject. But the problem with a commendation system is thus: I've just logged in after being away from the game for a week, and I'm two days off from a "wipe" of the entire thing. Because I haven't played, I haven't received any commendations. I try to group up with a group, however they want to take the player with the most commendations, so they pick someone who has been playing all week and has ranked up at least one or two commendations. The system we are discussing doesn't take into account that scenario, which would obviously mean people will get shunned if they do not play as often.

    I want to retake my vote :(

    It seems to make statistical sense to me that someone would pick the random person with seemingly more experience over the random person with seemingly less experience.

    No to all. There's no need. I'd much MUCH rather see a back end style system that penalizes people that leave early, etc, than peer review. People are, in general, just not trust worthy.

    I would think an eBay like system would be best. You rate the person 1 out of 5 and leave a quick comment justifying that score. You can't leave a rating without leaving a comment. Also, showing a timeline on when comments were left and allowing a small response would be ideal and give perspective on the issue.

    This leaves things way too open for griefing. Let's say there's three other people in your Flashpoint all from the same Guild, and one of them is horrible but the others want a good rating. They could threaten that unless you rate them 5 stars they will all rate you 1. The only way I'd see this work is if the rating is "hidden" from the view of the person being rated - that way you don't know who gave you what stars, and it will only show up on your stats later. That being said, even that system sucks seeing as there's no justifiable way to see how you can improve or, indeed, whether you need to or not.

    I believe a commendation system works better than a rating system. Did you really like your healer? Give them a commendation. Didn't like them? Don't give them anything. A wipe every week would be ideal too, giving people a chance to start off a fresh plate if they had a sucky week.

    Your second paragraph is exactly what I am thinking, Don't give the ability to negative, since people will always in a "Us vs. you" scenario choose to screw the outsider. (how many times did I get booted from a 'their' guild run pug because we wiped because they couldn't stay out of fire? or have enough HP for the instance) I think just a "this player has this many stars/interrogation droids/thumbs up for: healing/DPSing/ tanking would do fine.. poor/uncommitted/ignorant players would quickly be shown.

    Sounds like time and work to me. Would end up with a copy paste line like, "3 ok player" paste paste paste so I could just get back to playing...

    This is a great poll, I sincerely hope Bioware takes note, I would love to see these features implemented.

    I would like DH to talk about what they have seen in the game regarding player socialization. I am wondering if there are any innovations having to do with chat, what kinds of chat channels there are, is there a friends list so you can see when your friends log in/out, can you ignore/report other players if they spam or abuse, and if they saw any guild features such as seeing who is online playing, their level, and what planet/zone they are on, what quests they have active, etc. Also, any special features when you are grouped like for a flashpoint? Probably a lot of this is in the SWTOR or assumed to be in the game, but I have not heard much information about these aspects of the game.

    When I participate in a group with strangers, all I need to know is -

    - how many times the player quit flashpoints/operations;
    - how many times the player was kicked out of the groups;
    - how many times the player has voted someone else out;

    I'd like to see system, which takes into account above 3 numbers and automatically gives warning and then temporal ban from instances (days or a week or so). Also I'd like to hear, how would this system be exploited.

    Edit: one more option should be added - if a player has to quit and majority agrees, then no penalty should be 'rewarded'.

    Here's a thought: Why not just group with someone once, and if they suck, don't group with them again?

    Or even better: if they suck, and they're open to it - help them learn to improve so that the pool of skilled people to group with expands

    These ideas just strike me as potential excuses to write people off without ever even speaking to them, and if implemented in-game will most likely foment hard feelings and elitist separatism

    what better place for that form of society than the Star Wars Universe lol totally agree tho

    Seriously.

    I agree. Bad behaviour shouldn't be penalized in a rating system. The penalty will be the person being ostraziced from in-game society if they quit too many times. I remember back in Vanilla WoW before the LFG system was implemented, people would gain a reputation for being a bad player or a good player. Soon enough there were people who you just would not invite because of how many times you've heard that player's name being spoken in a bad way. On the other end, there'd be plenty of times where you'd see a good player's name come up and you would want to group with them.

    However I do agree with a commendation system, so instead of having bad behaviour penalized, have good behaviour rewarded. The carrot is always a much better approach than the stick.

    I voted yes on all because i think these systems could be very helpful for learning from mistakes that could be pointed out through statistics or player reviews however i do think it should be wiped every five days so your stats are not permanently damaged if you start out doing poorly. I would like for tools like these to be used for learning not for excluding players so i do think you should be able to hide it if you want to. With all that being said i do not seeing tools like these being used constructively by a lot of todays current mmo communtiy. You would most likely not get into many raid groups if you chose to hide it unless you knew enough people to form a group of people who know your actual value to a team.
