- Community Blog section
- Chat bubbles found in code, do you care for them?

Character Creation Walkthrough
- Lack of options?
- Eyebrows attached to complexion
- Some species like the Sith Purebloods only have a few face models
- Thoughts on the Body type models

SWTOR Early Access Starts December 13
- Early access now starts on the 13th instead of the 15th.
- Can preload now
- Look for early access email
- No grace period anymore. Some retailers in Europe getting the game for pre-orders as early as the 14th ahead of the launch of the game. US not getting theirs ahead of time unless they preordered from Origin which will give them their game keys ahead of time. Amazon says they have it in stock and may give out game keys ahead of launch. Plenty of options to get the game but it appears it’s all kind of a mess.

Operations Gear Preview
- Gear from Hard Mode Flashpoints and Normal/Hard/Nightmare Mode Operations
- Thoughts on the looks of the gear
- Really only two main sets per class with pallet swaps of the harder mode rewards.
- Could all be placeholder/ratified after launch, gear originally put in during the 11/26 patch

Item Modding Clarifications
- Explanation of item mods
- Can keep a piece of gear you like until end-game, swap out the mods, get them back via heavy cost, causes the piece of gear to become the average mod value, importance on the look of gear at end-game no longer important, time for players to run around in their modded out bikinis.

God forbid people decide not to participate in your little peanut gallery of achievements.

"(So you're making this system and it totally negates the purpose of high level gear!)"

:rolls eyes: Choice equipment is customizable and, believe it or not, those mods don't just appear out of nowhere. Where might be the easiest place to get ahold of them? Market. Second? Loot the crap from a boss and pry the mods from it (taking the cash hit) and putting it into something that actually LOOKS good. So what if OTHER PEOPLE can't see how good your equipment is? If they're that desperate to thunk their meat down on a table next to yours, they can go through the extra hassel of targeting you and doing an Inspect to see your equipment.

Honestly guys, caution is appreciable, but outright fear and loathing of change does little for progress. It's a system based on aesthetics, not giving people an unfair advantage; why should it be restricted simply because others want everyone to play in their sandbox? Probably the same group of guys that idled around capital cities in WoW, shoving their characters into everyone so they could feel important, knowing that, even if they had no intention of doing so in the first place, people were looking at their "hard-earned" gear. Probably would also belittle others desperately trying to find a party to experience content because they didn't have the right quality of pants.

    Gimmie a freakin' break.

No offense but you 3 have a common theme of naysaying and just a real smug overall attitude of the game....Is this a fansite or a group of warcraft holdover trolls.... Meh, back to berating gear concepts and the game overall....Im sure you all  have a book full of concept art that looks better right?

Wow. Alex Albrecht. Big fan of TRS and DiggNation.

I'm so jealous of people who can sit at a character creator and just make a character look awesome and just how they want. Skyrim had too much for me, let alone like APB or DCUO.

Because I'm so terrible at it - I'm not bothered by the lack of options.

6 hours to go at the time of this post, need to try and get a couple more hours sleep I guess :]

Yeah, I'm a tad concerned about the few customization options too, especially since they braged about how they want everyone to look different and all... but I guess full face helmets are somewhat a save here.

As for the shipping concern. I got an e-mail yesterday, my collector's edition is already packed up in a van and roaming the country to get to me. I'm supposed to get it today.

I do think more options for char creation would be nice but I don't think it's as bad as people are making it out.  I've played other MMOs including "that other game" and have had no body type choices at all.  I would like to see something between body type 2 and 3 though.

"Amazon says they have it in stock and may give out game keys ahead of launch."

What does this mean exactly? Was the amazon plan to release thier hard copy after the 20th? There are rumors and speculation about pre order codes and the actual hard copy cd key code, and people are mixing it up. So, if I missed something here, it seems to add to rumor and speculation, when for early access all that is needed is the pre-order then the product key for the 20th.

    Correct?

So please for those of us who did not order from Amazon, and did not hear the details about pre-order codes, or cd key codes, or are just in the loop, or computer savvy could you add more info as to whats up with amazon looking like a contradiction so we make less bad assumptions during a very anxious period for all eagerly waiting.

    Thnx

Pre-order code gets you Early Access.

Game code is in the box and is needed to continue playing on and after the 20th.

In order for Amazon to send out the Game codes they would have to open the boxes to get the codes to send... This seems unlikely.  For a time Amazon was offering Release day delivery.  This seems to necessitate shipping before the 20th...

    Thnx for the clarification.

For those concerned about the Early Access, I would think anyone who entered their codes within the first week will be those getting in first. Remember, there were a lot of issues during the first week or two when Official Pre-Orders began. Origin wasn't sending out the codenumbers. GameStop, BestBuy, Wal-Mart and other stores weren't receiving them to give to their customers until 2-4 days after Pre-Orders started.

So, anyone who got their codes in within the first week or so should be the first group put in for Early Access. So I wouldn't worry too much about it. Everyone who's getting in at 7am will get their emails at least several hours before the servers open up.

    • Chat Bubbles- I don't think it's needed but it's a nice option for people that want it.
    • Character Creation- I agree that it looks a little limited.  The complexions are a nice feature and some of the models look really good but I agree that there could be a couple more in-between body types.
    • Operations Gear- Could be a lot better looking.  Right now they have got an anime sci-fi inspired look but it doesn't look Star Wars to me. Shocking absence of black armor or robes for Sith.
    • Modifiable Armor and Weapons- The most recent iteration was a great improvement because it made moddable gear more rare and valuable.  I like that mods can be just as desirable as the gear itself and it adds a little complexity to equipping characters as you level up.  I don't think mods will devalue the "presitge" of endgame raid or PvP gear because of the set bonuses on the higher tier gears.  Your slave bikini isn't going to have Rakata set bonus stats on it.  Attribute stats have a huge effect in this game so I think set bonuses will make a difference at endgame.  Even if it's a small amout the min/maxers will opt for the gear with the set bonuses.

    Chat Bubbles, yes please!

Character creation improvement please. However there needs to be clarity on what they/we mean by body types. Since the body types in swtor deal with width. Why do we need more variety on body types of width, when that is enough. We should be asking for height sliders, and not more width.

Even if they addmore width options, adding a height slider should be a priority over that and would be more distinguishing.

Do you disagree with me? I am just wondering becuase people are asking for more body types, and I think they mean height and not width.

Triangle Head is from a Horror Movie... Silent Hill.  It's not from an anime.  I think it was also a game.

Chat bubbles... They are needed to know if someone is talking to you.  The chat window gets 99.5% ignored and or turned off.  Someone could be following me around for 10-20 minutes saying "hey listen!" in /say and I will not notice without a chat bubble.  Do they need to be done right? yes. Are there problems associated with the system that other MMOs are plagued with? Yes.  Those against them should look at this as an opportunity for them to be done right rather than imagining the worst thing they have ever seen.

For instance how about when someone says something is /say a bubble apears over their head with (...) in it?  No stacking bubbles.  It's simply a visual cue that someone is saying something and you should look in your chat window to see what they are saying.

I can't comprehend lvl 50 by the end of the week.  I played FFXI for 5 years.  At the end of that I had one character at lvl 58.  5 YEARS.  No I don't want this game to level that slowly.  Yes I do want it to take a whole lot longer than a week to get to lvl 50.  1 Year sounds about right to me for lvl 50.  If hiting max lvl takes less than 6 months then it fits my definition of a lightning fast lvling game.

Rocketeer! Don't be poopooing my Rocketeer.
