Literally the only reason I listen to your PodCasts is to see any new good-natured fun directed against Handchoi. Guildy and friend, it gives me great pleasure to see his unkillability in action, with love.

On the bit about keybindings and Razer mice:

I suggest taking a look at http://steelseries.com/us/products/games/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm-mmo-gaming-mouse rather than the razers crammed on the side config. With this everything is seperate enough that the buttons will make sense for muscle memory and there is 0 chance of fat fingering another button. 5 distinct buttons on the side feel VERY natural, but then there is the smaller buttons on the outside and insides of the standard right and left click plus the button under the wheel and one under your ring finger. All very natural. The thing comes with software to set up all the shortcuts to whatever the key is, then just go into keybindings and assign away.

My whole bottom hotbar row is my mouse, so I've put a number of majorly needed abilities on my mouse and since I play a marauder I sure do need a ton of buttons!

The mouse also lets you set a color wheel for the mouse's physical glowing color which, as pointless as it is, makes me giggle a little on the inside. :-)

I got this thing for Christmas since BestBuy is clearencing them for the new edition and only paid $50 for it! I don't know HOW I've been playing MMO's for the last 8 years w/o this thing...

i'm with Sado on the experise issue.  i know that it is historically a mechanic that is used to prevent raid gear from dominating in pvp.  the problem is that in TOR raid gear and pvp gear aren't mutually exclusive.  you can raid in pvp gear and do well, you can't pvp in raid gear and expect to do well.  it's a faceroll for the 50's with pvp gear.  it's really discouraging to WZ play 1-49, doing reasonably well, only to get wrecked w/o a sliver of hope of competing/winning against geared-up 50's.

i literally watched 7 people join/quit throughout a Voidstar match yesterday after experiencing the face smash against a group of geared 50's.  the situation is bad.  the only silver lining in this is that it currently doesn't take more than a week or two to get your pvp gear.  i expect this will change with the 1.1 patch, making it take longer to get your gear, leaving all those poor saps to come at a significant disadvantage to the people who rushed to 50.

Thought I would add in for the Logitech vs Naga bit.  I was a LONG time user of the logitech mouse and I totally understand the hesitence to go to the Naga for feel and contour, but I can tell you it is worth it, especially from the sound of your keybinding setup.  Having 12 twelve buttons on the thumb is incredible and something I will never be able to go away from again. It took a little bit to teach my thumb the button locations (which the naga comes with some nice rubber stick on things to put on it to help with this, after a while you will not need them) but once that muscle memory is there, it is an invaluable setup.  Thats my 2 creds. From a Logitech fan, try the Naga, you'll like it.

I shied away from the "12 on the side" razer due to the 100% chance of fat-thumbing an ability or 3. There wasn't a whole lot of room for error in that mouse, IMO. I'm a much bigger fan of the SteelSeries Cata Mouse. Very natural set-up.

Thinking about it for sure, probably just need to get my mind off of the bad experience with the Lachesis that I got a few years ago.

Oh, looks like they deleted my criticism of thier last podcast too.

    How sad is that?

I guess the ToS covers anything that might be negative or they just don't like.

I have a level 50 Sith Assassin, I average 8 medals per pvp match, and I don't use guard but use taunt.

You can use taunt in this game to give a 30% damage debuff to someone attacking a member of your team. If you see a marauder beating the huttball carrier use taunt. This always gives me time to kill the enemy player.

The idea that guard, and taunt are free valor is bull. It is a method to make sure the team wins. The aoe taunt is the quickest way to get the 2k defense medal, and you never have to change charge.

A smart use of taunt can save a player at low life when I join a fight, it can keep the huttball carrier alive when 4+ players are beating on him if team has a healer. With no healer no amount of taunt is going to stop 4 enemy players from killing the huttball carrier.

A side note. That when you use guard you take damage. I put guard on a tank running the huttball and died before he did while never getting attacked. Since then I use taunt, snare push back, and stun to keep huttball carrier alive. With guard you also take double damage from AOE attacks. Only tanks should use guard.

You can get a couple extra key's into your key setup if you switch to homerow keys instead of the 'left shift' default stuff.

So instead of 'wasd' you need to use 'esdf' for movement.

This helps because when you 'shift right' to the 'homerow position' you don't lose any reachable keys (you can still reach tab/caps/shift/ctrl), but you gain three/four (5/t/g/b).

This also makes typing a little quicker, since you're in position already.

I've actually considered trying that, just have a problem trying to re-orient my hands to something other than wasd for movement.

  • #6 Dusntmatter

Do you guys think a 3 faction system would fix the imbalance problems with world PvP?

  • #3 Misenus

People will ask, this is the video I'm talking about ...

Looking into an issue where the last 15 minutes were cut off in the upload. Will update when it's fixed. Apologies for the inconvience.

    Update: Fixed.

Regarding defense medals, you only get them for damage that is redirected via Guard. The medals are as follows:

Redirect 2k Damage in One Life
    Redirect 5k Damage Total
Redirect 10k Damage in One Life

It's a lot harder to get these than simply "slapping Guard on someone and running away" as Guard only redirects damage if you are within 15 meters of them and the Guard buffs if either of you die. As a Shield Powertech, I sometimes don't get my Defense medals because I'm too busy actually trying to win the Warzone and my guardee runs of and dies or I get focused.

There's also the fact that you have to switch to your tank "stance" to even use Guard to begin with. . . The whole "free valor" thing just smacks of some folks talking about something they just don't understand.
