    Re: Cross-faction communication,

Would the ability to add other players' whole Legacies to your Friends list be a workable compromise?  Maybe if players could toggle in or out of having their whole Legacies befriended from their Preferences menu?

not till legacy is account wide and grouping can occur regardless of faction, server, etc. match the standard set by the dominant free to play competitor

I agree with Brandon on wanting larger raids than the 4 boss 1 puzzle scheme we seem to be locked into right now.

My biggest fear is that we are going to have to wait until April-May to see the next raid.  This is too long for my raiding guild to hold out for new content.

I don't think we're gonna make it another year in this game.  Truly sad news on this "expansion" being pushed back.

I guess we just need to unsub and maybe come back later.  My enthusiasm is pretty low for the expansion.

Thanks for commenting on SGRs guys. It would be good to hear from BW Austin what their intent and timeline is. It's not even so much that I'm feeling I'm missing out (though obviously I don't get the same options, and even if it's minor it's still unfair), but it's the insult on the game's part. This might be hard to understand, but flirt options come up all the time for the opposite sex, and it's really insulting that the game basically tells me that my toon is not wired that way. DA2 really gave the feeling that your toon was free to make their own choices, and here it feels like BW Austin made the choice for me that all my toons are straight. And yes they say it's nothing to with the toon but with the NPCs or Companions, but if that were the case then why wouldn't there be a flirt and then a rejection. It's become quite fundamental that I experience this game as a place that has excluded me. And that's not okay. Anyway, thanks for covering this and sharing your views!

First off, f**k yeah, Pete's back. I don't remember hearing him in a while.

I still believe Makeb should be free to subscribers (or should be available for cartel coins).  Charge F2Pers $15 dollars for it.  It sounds much more like a content patch than a true expansion (no new classes or races).  Lacking a lot of the details it seems smaller than ember isle was for rift and that was just a content patch.

Also where is a ready check?

I want the game to do well. So if they charge this amount its because they need it to cover costs for their content and other future content.

They are working on the SSSP as well... so I might be a bit over zealous that the content is worth the price, and maybe even generous... but assuming it is not, and not supporting something you already like sounds worse considering it has worse ramifications for the customers and the future of the game.

If memory serves, Ember Isle was basically a giant reputation grind wrapped in a series of repeatable missions, quickly coupled with a rollout of the Instant Adventure mechanic. That's a far cry from a level cap change, added abilities and advancing the story.

Plus, real estate wise, Ember Isle is tiny in comparison to places like Belsavis, Hoth or Alderaan from what I recall.

you guys really think the game will have a problem from the removal of faction interaction/ or at least guild ability to include either faction and for grouping?

i found that terribly odd to hear. in this game the two factions are just political parties, in essence. States, just galactically.  the story itself in the classes even gives you points of choice and situations where you work with the other faction. there's no reason that they should be a hard limit on anything you do in the game. as you can see at the end of the game all content is identical.

i think the ideal system doesn't restrict faction from grouping, guilding, and also has friendlist grouping and guesting. an even better system would take alignment and faction and open them up to player choice with cool story elements.. allowing you to get to the faction you like from the story/class type you like as well. IE imperial trooper, or a sith that defects due to disagreement with the sith politics and infighting. the depth possible there is insane and i would expect an entire expanion down the road to introduce something like that.

but for now just letting us play with who we want to and letting RP fill in the gaps could be fine. and would be far preferable to a hard stop against grouping

I agree. Personally I hate the split-faction system, when ~half the player base is automatically split up on a server from the character select screen.  I've hated it in previous games, and not a fan of it in this one.  But its primarily a PvP concept, and I'm not much of a PvPer.  Still, I wouldn't mind if games started offering servers with rules that were less restrictive regarding faction split than others, it wouldn't be the first time an MMO has done so.

  • #16 Shadowlance

I'm suddenly reminded of the EQ1 reputation grinds some people went through (myself included) to be able to get into certain cities as certain races (Iksar going anywhere? yeah that took awhile).  Not saying that's the way to go for TOR (I personally despise reputation grinds nowadays, especially when they're used to gate players from content and gear) but given TOR's story-based nature I don't see why some sort of "grey market" or "enemy of my enemy" shindigs can't be worked out.
Especially with the premise of a faction rising to challenge both the Empire and the Republic. And no, I'm not advocating for defections.

What do you Hater's think about having to pay for a new species as a subscriber? Has any mmo ever made you do that before?

This coming from Cathar most likely being cartel store only. (subscribers not excluded)

And the head honchos over at bioaustin saying they want us to feel like we (subs) are getting our money's worth.

  • #8 DarthSerious

Im personally more concerned with the money going towards something worthwhile and the development being for major content expected in MMOs. So it costing more is not a concern since it does not interfere with the content existing in the game. Im more concerned with the actual content other than customization being developed as something also important as well.

And if the major content is not coming along and they are charging through the roof... then, it makes them look not so cool to put it nicely.

I hate to say it guys, because I like the information you guys always uncover, but you are really starting to get negative on this game.  Are you guys getting ready to toss in the towel?

I think everybody still has the grand designs about all the things this game needs to do, but I'm not sure they have the resources to cover everything.  How do you guys see them ever reconciling all of the things that are upsetting everybody with the available resources.

I think in general, we gamers have gotten very spoiled with very high expectations, and we aren't willing to put our money where our mouth is anymore.

Anyway, I don't want to ramble.  I hope you guys keep the faith.  They're doing what they can with what they have.  Even if it was all awesome, I'm sure it still wouldn't make everybody happy.

  • #3 Jaspor

I think we're still excited about the game and the possibilities. There's a difference between being "negative" and being "jaded" I think. When you cover the game as closely as we have for as long as we have, it can be a little frustrating to hear announcements that are being hyped as first time reveals and exciting new info when it's stuff we first heard about months ago.
