Darth Hater Joins Curse Network

Darth Hater is pleased to announce we joined the Curse Network. We created Darth Hater in 2009 with the intention of providing the Star Wars: The Old Republic community with the best possible game resource. This fundamental goal continues to be the driving factor behind all of our work, from convention coverage to community interaction. For over two years now, you, the Darth Hater community, supported our efforts by reading our articles, crowd sourcing our dissections, listening to our podcasts, and telling us what you think in our comments and forums. In response to your dedication, we want to do more.

By working with Curse, we will provide the community with the world-class technology that we always hoped we could. Whether it is high quality in-game addons or robust out of game features and support, Curse is a well-known and respected entity in the MMO space. Additionally, their website support team will allow us to focus on creating the content you enjoy without being bogged down by the headaches of website management. Gaining access to their experience and expertise, we will be able to realize our goal of producing the best one stop shop for SWTOR players across the globe.

As a personal note for all of our fans, we want to reassure you that the core values and personnel that makes Darth Hater what it is will not change. Expect to get a continuing dose of Sado and the entire Darth Hater crew leading up to and following the launch of The Old Republic. We know what you love about Darth Hater and we promise that it is only going to get better.

Update 9.3.11: Curse also made an announcement.

I'm seeing a lot of use of the word "merger" in the comments. It's not a merger. There's no merging going on. Darth Hater is still Darth Hater - we just get to let Curse worry about server up-time and get more developers to support Orionark. The management and content production of the site stays the same.

+1 internets to Jonneh for hitting the nail on the head earlier in the comments:
"They'll be migrated to the Curse infrastructure, which will pretty much mean they'll be able to request dev and support from them and just concentrate on content."

... yup, that's it. Other than that, business as usual.

I am the light that brings the dawn.

Easily the best website for wow related infoaddons (Curse) and the best SWTOR site teaming up can not be a bad thing!

This is very good news imo. Curses' add-ons did for World of Warcraft what High-Def did for TV.

I couldn't be more pleased with this announcement.

Of course that all depends on if TOR has addons. Otherwise all the addons Curse has for WoW is meaningless. :P I myself don't have a HDTV so your analogy is lost on me. O:)

So it turns out I've been living under a rock and never heard of Curse Network.
Probably because I am not a fan of addons tbh. Mostly they seem to cause alot of imbalances in game and from what I've seen generally increase the numbers of people botting and cheating. (feeling the need to keep up with the joneses)

I love the DH updates... so I aint going anywhere, but I certainly wont be using any of Curse's features.

Addons for games such as WoW do not cause game imbalances OR lead to botting. WoW has a very specific set of guidelines on what can and cannot be done with addons to their game (both through rules as well as how much data and options can be accessed with the addon programming language they use as well). It's dictated more by the game than by the sites that manage addons, but Curse is definitely not the cancerous thing you seem to think it is.

Congrats to you, but if you follow the example of mmo-c than its not going to be good for the community.
Or at least for the ppl who liked receiving news updates on weekends - which is was totally stopped when mmo-c joined curse.
But well, you've chosen your way and all I can add is have a good time and make the best of it!

I hope the partnership make this a reality:

"....,we will be able to realize our goal of producing the best one stop shop for SWTOR players across the globe."

Congrats guys. Have used both sites in the past looking forward to the road ahead.

Curse(s)! I actually haven't read a Curse Newsletter in like...uhm, 4 years? Curse was essential back in the days I played WoW, but became spam in my mailbox after I stopped. I have frequented DH for much differing reasons than I had ever visited Curse. Though I'm not displeased by the merger, I hope that DH doesn't change and alter any of those "reasons" why I like coming here. Ultimately, I wish that the final effect is a bigger/stronger DH with enhanced HATE!

Finally, all I can really say is "Cheers!" guys - especially if this merger represents a culmination of your hard work and efforts.

So that's what you meant guys when you said you had future plan for Darth Hater after Swtor launch!
  • #62 Deathztalker
What does Darth Hater joining the Curse Network mean for the Darth Hater SWTOR guild? Under your agreement with Curse are you guys still allowed to run a guild?

I'm curious what direction Sado and the group are actually taking this site when the game launches. To compare to the most widely known MMO, WoW, are you going to be an MMO-Champion like datamining/information site? Mmo-Champion like forums (garbage 99% of the time)? Elitist Jerks like theorcrafting forums (just the facts and no BS)? I think this direction will greatly influence my patronage of this site. I'm looking forward to see what happens.

If you are speaking specifically about the forums, then I can assure you the community rules will stay the same and the strict enforcement of those rules is dictated by the community here.

I think you're missing the point a little.

As with all fansites at the moment, people come here because they can't play the actual game.

Whilst what you do serves the pre-launch community very well, there's not much to draw people here post launch unless you have some specific content in mind e.g. theorycrafting or a content database for quests/items etc.
