Community Blog: Let's Play the Guessing Game "Classes"

This post was written by Sedit, a member of our community here, and was promoted to the front page. There will be a more clear differentiation between the official Darth Hater posts and the community in the new website design but for now Sedit's post:

Here is what we know so far;

Sith Empire:
Bounty Hunter
Sith Warrior

Galactic Republic:
Smuggler
Trooper

We also know there will be a Jedi counterpart on the Republic side and so far that is all we know. Now for the fun...

When BioWare announced they planned to have four classes on each side and exclusive to its side I thought cool, maybe they will be splitting the Jedi/Sith down like they did in KotOR I and II. In an MMO setting a Jedi/Sith could be anything from tank to DPS, maybe even a healer, but when the Sith Warrior was confirmed to be a new class this changed my thinking.

Now there might be a possibility each side will have two Jedi/Sith classes and two non-Jedi/Sith classes. Now remember Im just guessing here, I have not heard or read anything to suggest this will be the case. Why do I think this? Well, KotOR has three basic class structure to its game; Consular, Guardian Sentinel and it gets broken down further in KotOR II but we will stick to KotOR for now.

The Sith Warrior is basically a Guardian, which is cool, but something is missing. The Guardian is the front line Jedi, basically tank and spank is his only job. What is missing is the pure powers user, aka Consular. While Jedi/Sith can all use the same powers, they tend to concentrate on a specific disciplines. Darth Vader was all about saber play, while the Emperor was big on force powers, e.g. force lightning.

How can they not have a force-power user? They are the coolest of the Jedi/Sith and it fills the mage role like in other tradition MMOs, plus the Sith's power user even has the coolest name of all...Sith Lord As far as Sentinel goes, I just think they are made of a mix of both classes so they might have some representation but not an outright class (that and it would further kill my theory).

What Im getting at here is you cannot have a pure Guardian class and not have a pure Consular class in-game, so Im going out on a limb here and Im guessing each side will have two Jedi/Sith and two non-Jedi/Sith and on both sides they be a Guardian and a Consular type.

then again Warrior could probably just spec into pure Consular type powers and that would just shoot my theory all to hell.

We aren't, this is a post by a member of our community. You can see our list of writers at - http://darthhater.com/team/ which does not include Sedit. The community aspect of our site will make more sense once the new site comes. This is a last minute solution to a problem that we currently have with the current system.

Also we've made a category called 'community blog' to further accentuate the difference between the posts. I would also like to point out that there is quite a lot here that we have done that many could consider speculation, especially in the dissection posts we have done. In fact when we did the first dissection many people at first did not like it because we were doing 'too much speculation'.

Yeah, the two force user style system might not happen, but I bring up the guessing game because I really want to know why they called the Sith a Sith Warrior? A Jedi/Sith are so much more then tank and spank type classes. Force powers are more a mage type thing and not a warrior type thing (hopefully you get where I'm coming from in my thinking).

You may be right that there will only be one force user per side, like the link I posted earlier, his theory is a good one. As the force user progresses, he may pick up more force powers, ala force-lightning, force-push, etc... This would make more sense than my theory, but I'll stick with my theory for now.

Even though BioWare broke lore a little to split up the classes in KotOR like they did, I think they are cable of doing the same for the TOR; if for nothing else but to keep with the trend they already started.

...who know at this point, I'm just having fun playing the guessing game ;)

I think the name "warrior" was just decided on because of problems with the more obvious names. "Dark Jedi" doesn't make sense in this setting - the Sith wouldn't name their own force users after a foreign group. Also it doesn't distinguish them from dark side Jedis on the Republic side. And you can't just called them "Sith" because that's used to identify the faction. After that, there's no obvious name for them. I think BioWare thought of the Jedi Knights, and considered what's the evil/neutral equivalent of a knight: a warrior.

I like what this guys has to say on the swtor.com forums and it would totally kill my theory as well.

    http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=61785

And that is no one here other than Bioware has a clue whether it will be the only darkside force class or not.

Anyway, since everyone and their pet monkey, Fred, has been putting their two cents in on the subject, I figure I will add mine. And let me say, since we apparently have some very sensitive types in this forum, that everything is my opinion only, based on what we know so far.

I believe that Sith Warrior is a parallel to Jedi Knight, which I firmly believe the Jedi class will be named. I believe the term "Warrior" is not to denote that there will be other Sith classes to play, but rather, that it is "Warrior" to give a stark contrast to the "Knight" in "Jedi Knight" - quite apropo, I might add.

Now, like everyone else, I also thought based on the original online review, and the term, that they just might be making different Sith force classes for people to play - the warrior and the caster. However, then comes in another article the subtle bombshell that the Sith Warrior can use Sith lightning, something that would be considered a staple in a potential Force Caster's class.

Add on to that the devs who have since been questioned haven't given a straight answer, but kind of confirmed there won't be another class. But why not come right out and say that?

Because (and this is pure speculation on my part) I think the grand design for the force classes will be that everyone starts out on the low end of the totem pole, and that as people progress through the game, they might be able to unlock abilities or sub-classes that allow them to transition from a more "Darth Vader" role to a more "Emperor" role.

Think about it - the overlap on force powers would make a second sith force class not as unique, and would take away from each other. But having "Sith Warrior" as the starting point, and then allowing a player to grow into the role of an all-power force-weilding sith sounds like it just might be up Bioware's alley.

Again, that's my speculation. I do not know if my speculation is correct. But I am at the very least very comfortable in believing that Sith Warrior will be the only Sith Force using class.

I couldn't agree more with this post.

Sean says when it comes to multiple force users on each side he can "neither confirm nor deny it."
"WITH THAT BEING SAID" your guess is as good as mine as long as you use some form of what appears to be logic.
