Preview of this Friday's Update - July 31st, 2009

It's that time of the week again and Sean has told us that our update will be:

Hey everyone,

For those of you who missed it, last week we put up our latest Fan Friday which announced our presence at both GamesCom and the Penny Arcade Expo. If you happen to be a Facebook user and planning on attending either of these, check out our page on Facebook and mark your attendance.

Speaking of GamesCom and PAX, I wanted to go ahead and let all of you know things may be a little quiet around here for the next few weeks. For example, this week's update with be Threat of Peace #12.

After we get through these next few weeks, we have a lot of content in store for all of you. Our updates at the convention (and after them) will also include updates to the website for those of you who can't join us there. And yes, there will be some new reveals as well as the Gameplay Demo Walkthrough video.

Update: Sean responded to the backlash that came in response to the thread -
Understandably, some of you are not ecstatic with the original post on this thread (yes, they do call me Captain Obvious sometimes...). As I explained a few weeks ago, the convention season can (and will) be a little different than the other parts of the year. During this time of year, our announcements are planned around events such as E3, Comic-Con, GamesCom, PAX.

We also figured giving you a heads up now on the next few weeks would be better than just waiting for each Friday to come about and say "Here's Threat of Peace #12". There are other updates planned between now and then, for example we have a Developer's Blog coming up but as I said, things will be a little light. During and after GamesCom, things definitely pick up.

That said, we've kept to having at least one major announcement each month. June seemed different because most of our updates all happened in the first few days and the rest of the month basically reiterated those updates. This month we had Timeline #3 as well as Video Documentary #3. Next month we have the Gameplay Demo Walkthrough and other things and September also has some great updates.

One thing I'd like to point out is our updates aren't just geared towards the core community here but also for the wider community that follows The Old Republic. That is why we point out the updates in multiple places. I already know that all of you who are on the forums are going to see things even before I post them. But some of our fans wait till they see the update in the newsletter, on one of the social networks, or exists on the front page of the website. So we try to craft thing with all segments of our community in mind.

Update 2: Another response from Sean -
The danger in answering that is that the further out something is, the greater the chance it is going to change. So I can talk with much more confidence as to what is releasing this week as opposed to what is releasing three (3) months from now.

And this ties in to how we do release our information. We only want to release things we are confident in having little to no changes. As you saw in the interview with Dallas and Jake on IGN, we haven't talked much about the multiplayer dialogue system outside of confirming its existence. We are still testing and iterating on it and until we feel the design is not only solid but implemented and working the way we want it to, we won't be talking about the details of it much.

This is how we are with all of our information. And while I know waiting can seem to take an eternity, we feel it is much better for the community in the long run to release accurate information on how something does work instead of how we hope or plan on things to work.
