Three and a half millennia before the Clone Wars, the Treaty of Coruscant has tabled an uneasy peace between the Galactic Republic and the reemerging Sith Empire. However, with new skirmishes becoming a regular occurrence, even on the relatively peaceful planet of Alderaan, the Jedi Order finds itself in an all too familiar position: protecting the Republic from a looming all-out war.

Found some news, that could tie in to the spring release date.

Not one, but two novels are being made.

Sorry if this has already been posted before. This is the first I've heard of it

Todays threat of peace just answered my own question as they were fighting in the very same crystal caves on Dantooine that were in KOTOR 2! One of my favorite things to do in game is to find and explore lore locations so I am very excited!

The preparations could be from the defeat of Exar Kun. Hard to tell when they round their numbers to the nearest hundred to sound more epic. "For three hundred and forty three years, three months and fourteen days we prepared" is nice for guessing the story, but it just does not sound nice.

Lore Question: Right now I am re-playing KOTOR 2 and I was just wondering is TOR going to be any kind of a follow up lore wise to that game? or are they just going off KOTOR 1 since 2 was out sourced to Obsidian?
  • #22
Technically they need to go off of ANY existing lore because KOTOR 2 is just as much canon as the first. However, they can focus more on the KOTOR 1 lore rather than the parts developed by Obsidian. They are pretty much able to do whatever they want as long as they do not create a paradox within the Star Wars Universe. For our purposes Revan was a good man, exile was a nice lady, and the current Jedi Order was started by Bastila and the exile's organic meatbag companions.

Indeed. They made a really nice twist with the story to some degree. Basically the two main heroes of the games were needed in order to rebuild what was destroyed. They tought their companions some important lessons, and then they said goodbye, intrusting them with the rebuilding of the Republic while going to fight the evil in their own way.
The story didn't make all that much sense to me, untill Daniel Erickson revealed how Revan and Malak met the Emperor during their travels. Also, regarding the fact that it took the Sith 300 years to return, it can also mean that the exile and Revan were somewhat succesfull in their mission. I just hope we will find out the actual details within the game when it starts :P

I thought I remember reading what Revan did after KotOR1, and BioWare basically ignored what Obsidian did in KotOR2. Would be mean for them to dismiss the work not done by them, but whatever, I can kinda see why they'd do it.

And Zoidberg, I still miss your Zoidberg icon. It let you joke around more, act more in-character as Zoidberg. You don't need the DH icon, we can see you as a staffer on the side. :) Maybe you can do like a photoshop edited version of your icon that is half Zoid, half DH? A horizontal split might work, since the letters DH look like the top/bottom half mirrored.

I'm afraid to change it because Em might beat me up, and my image editing skills are pretty much just tinkering around with paint.

Just had another thought, yeah it's been a boring day at the office. What, no, that's not the thought. We all know BioWare's marketing team does nothing by accident. Just look at how much info has be gleaned from the holonet in the past year. Anyway, has anyone noticed that this novel's release date July 27, 2010 is the Tuesday after San Diego's Comic Con which is July 22 - 25?

If the game is going to launch this year, which I think and hope, I can't imagine they would announce the release date any much later than Comic Con. Maybe GamesCon but, they would need to leave time for pre-order sales and the big marketing push. I know some folks here know a lot more about marketing than I do. Are my impressions correct or, way off the mark?

These books came out today? I wanted to read these books about the SW:TOR lore during the timeline we are playing. Must...seek...some...facts. >:D

Announced released date for the novel is July 27, 2010. Though, that is subject to change. Many people believe the book is the strongest indicator of a release date for the game as well. This is because, in the past BioWare has show a penchant for releasing their books within a few months of game launch. Usually between one and three months before launch. This was the case with Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins. I'm not sure if they followed this trend with Mass Effect 2. Can anyone else confirm or refute the release date of an ME2 novel?

It is not every day that you see a publisher miss-use a verb, but even if you take the UK meaning of the word "table" (used as a verb) it is a poor choice, and the US meaning is completely contrary to what the blurb text intends.

    I like words.
  • #13
Yes it's definitely an odd word choice. Two explanations for this really, either there is a Peace Table that all forms of peace must either be placed in or entered into...or somebody is full of fail.

"Tabled" is actually a decently chosen word in that sentence because it is used in the same context as you would see in Roberts Rules of Order for running business and organization meetings. All Tabled means is to "put off until later" or "_________ will be dealt with for a different/later date". Too me at least, all it means is that the Republic has put off true peace to a "later date" due to the fact they are kinda encumbered by the sith's version of the Treaty of Coruscant and things are starting to break down. Anyway, I do agree however that this word does kinda make it a little confusing haha.

Good find and update though, glad to see they will be pumping out more external material out before the game to grab some contextual background on what is actually going on. Almost finished with the Dynasty of Evil!
