Friday Update: Taris

Sean Dahlberg introduced us to Taris, another planet included in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Once home to a thriving civilization, Taris was razed by the Sith Lord Darth Malak 300 years ago during the Jedi Civil War. As a symbol of hope, redemption, and defiance, the Republic has begun an unlikely effort to re-colonize Taris. To do so, they will have to deal with the toxic soil, dangerous pirates, and ferocious rakghouls the only survivors of the Sith bombardment. Determined to overcome the challenges, Republic and Jedi leaders are moving forward with the effort. However, Imperial intelligence has other plans

Access the Holonet to read about the history of Taris and the re-colonization of this ruined world swarming with rakghouls. Also, see the scarred surface of Taris in this video and visit the media section for exclusive screenshots, concept art, and wallpapers

Aurebesh translations after the jump.
Aurebesh translations on Taris' Holonet page are as follows:

The latest issue of Threat of Peace also released today:

The twenty-sixth issue of Threat of Peace delivers the final moments of the battle between the Sith and the Jedi in Dantooine's crystal caves. The death of Master Dar'Nala restores the prospects for peace and Jedi Knight Satele Shan refused to continue the fight. As the Republic heroes guardedly depart the crystal caves, Lord Baras offers one final opportunity to Satele and a chilling prediction for the future.

Check out the latest issue of Threat of Peace now.

We were intrigued by the mention of Revan in both updates today.

Thanks DH team. To your credit I’m now not visiting (reading or posting) on the official TOR site for information much at all and coming to you for concise updates & breakdowns first. Keep up the good work /salute

Looking at a planet like Balmorra though, it's hard to see it being PvE-y at all. The whole scale of open combat there just screams "PvP" to me.

i am calm XD... (this means not calm >__>

I personally can't wait to see this planet or really any of the planet's they've shown us. I'm hoping that there will be lots of places where we can go and explore without having to be sidetracked by the story. Just something to waste time on because no matter what game you're playing there will be times when you just dont feel like doing something important.

Taris, another unique planet to play on a massive scale. I am sure it will feel like "I am legend" without the plague when visiting that planet. Lots of good urban war battles in this planet.

I wonder where the "nekghouls" will tie in with all this? You can see their names as the filename for the forum icon of what looks like a rakghoul. There has to be a reason they were named something besides "rakghoul".

I love rakghouls as an idea, but the concept worked out is pretty crap. People just sort of 'poof' into their shape after being infected for a while (At least in KOTOR). Even the Plague of the Undeath has been worked out in a more.. uhm.. believeable manner?

Not meaning to sound too bashful, I appriciate the implications it'll give on the story. It's a good basis anyway.

Thanks -- we fixed it. :)

So, no Death Cole Slaw then?
  • #25 sado
No, but maybe Darth Hater Cole Slaw.

I'm surprised there's so much of the skyscraper facade left standing after KotOR's orbital bombardment. I'd have figured it'd have all been rubble at best, not entirely intact buildings.
  • #17 Chasted
If there are skyscrapers... Wouldn't that suggest the people made it to the promised land?

I just wish they'd mix in a race reveal to soften the blows of what we refer to on the forums as "Christmas Socks".

I have an exclusive just for you, on this site only: I can confirm that HUMANS will be the first playable race in TOR. Shhhh, don't tell anyone, I could get in trouble for leaking this info.
