Jennifer Hale Confirmed as a Voice Actor in The Old Republic

Last week Aeli, a poster in the official forums, created a thread about gaming voice over veteran Jennifer Hale doing work for Star Wars: The Old Republic. The possibility of Jennifer Hale being part of the project should come as welcome news for players looking for quality voice acting in their games. As the voice of Bastila from Knights of the Old Republic and female Shepard in Mass Effect 1 & 2, her skills literally speak for themselves. She would certainly be a welcome addition to TOR, so we decided to check with BioWare and LucasArts to see if she would indeed be included in the cast. Here is their response:

Yes, in the April issue of PC Gamer (UK) during an interview with James Ohlen, we did confirm that Jennifer Hale is one of the Voice Actors for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

With this official confirmation, we can now start our own list of who we will be listening to when players finally get their hands on the game. It looks like the audio team at LucasArts were not joking when they said the voice work is going to be high quality.

as long as Nolan North doesnt do 20 different voices i will be happy

I think that there is a big chance that the more famous actors are not going to be playable character voices. Being public favourites, half the know galaxy will sound the same. The only option for them to be PC voices is for the others to be that awesome. Uhh now my head is spinning around so much actors...

And btw no one mentioned the role of Dr. Naomi Hunter!

I hope she won't be doing a voice similar to the one she did in Mass Effect, I didn't like her voice much in that but I guess thats just my opinion.

She was great as Bastilla though so heres to hoping she will be the voice of a Consular rather than a Trooper. Thing is though, it would be a bit odd if you had a female consular which sounded like Bastilla, confuse the mind it would.

Anyway, great news guys, as always.

Hi guys, thanks for the recognition. My post was actually specifically about her voicing the female Trooper class, due to a sentence I found in the UK issue of PC Gamer. I think there was an official comment about Ms. Hale working on TOR last year sometime, so I had thought it was already confirmed

The sentence which inspired my post on the official forums was; "...Here she plays a Republic Trooper."

That doesn't necessarily mean a player character female trooper, but I figured it would make sense given her performance as the military inspired Commander Shephard.

Its great that she's in the game though, I agree. Her work voicing Bastila in KotOR is possibly my favourite voice work ever seen in a computer game. Lets hope she also reprises the english accent for another part in TOR :).

It would be a bit of irony for her to play a regular old trooper after her more famous KotOR role being a Jedi Consular.

1 of a 100 million reasons SW:TOR will be game of the future.

Just a quick thought for DH, do you guys think that your playable charactor's voice will be based on what your class/gender will be or based on what your race/gender will be?
  • #12 Zoid
So far it sounds like it would be class/gender. That way each voice actor would only need to record the dialogue for the class they are covering. If they went on the race/gender line they would need to go out and have each actor record every line of dialogue for every class. Another huge factor in this is we dont know how many species there are. If the dialogue is also set by species it makes things much more difficult if they want to add other species post launch.

She could be playing Satele. I'm still crossing my fingers for John DiMaggio!

I'm crossing my fingers for Billy West.

    I wonder why, ZOIDBERG!

I coulda sworn we knew this already, either through an outside site (such as imdb) or one of the developer videos
