Friday Update: 'Biographies'

A new Star Wars: The Old Republic HoloNet tab was revealed today: the Biographies section. It gives a background on various individuals such as Nemro the Hutt, Satele, and Grand Moff Kilran. Sean Dahlberg announced this while mentioning Rob Chestney's short story on starwars.com:

Curious about some of the characters you've seen in Threat of Peace, the Developer Walkthrough, or the Deceived cinematic trailer? Now you can find out all about them

We are thrilled to introduce a new expansion to our HoloNet archives: Biographies Now you can view profiles of several of the galaxy's most notable figures. Each entry highlights someone you may meet, travel with, or fight alongside or against as you help determine the future of the galaxy in Star Wars: The Old Republic

Just like the Classes, Planets, and Timelines sections, the Biographies archives will be expanded regularly, so check back often to make sure you get the latest updates.

He also hinted at updates prior to E3:
Biographies is the foundation for something more... what exactly that is, I can't tell you quite yet. All I can say at this time is stay tuned; E3 2010 isn't that far away and we actually have some exciting (and new) updates for you before then.

Those following Star Wars: The Old Republic may recognize Grand Moff Kilran from the Sith Warrior Flashpoint dialog sequence, Satele Shan from Threat of Peace webcomic, and Nem'ro the Hutt from the Bounty Hunter demonstration on Hutta.

Aurebesh translations and newsletter hints after the jump. (Thanks to RogueJedi86 for the translation.)

Something that caught my eye in Kilans bio.

He's a navy career officer. His entire career has been based in the navy. No mention of an army (ground) posting. It's all been Navy (Space):

-"...Rycus Kilran may be the greatest naval strategist the Empire has ever seen."

    - "...he assumed command of the ragged Imperial fleet and led them to a swift and decisive victory."

-" His brutally effective strikes during the final days of the war earned him the nickname the Butcher of Coruscant among Republic civilians" (Note: I believe this is referance to the Sacking of Coruscant )

-"...his heroic stand against a Jedi boarding party earned him his scars."

I believe this is all subtle referancing that (at least on the Imperial side) that Space will be another "location" for content outside of the planet listing.

What that content could consist of is anyones guess.

The part about Satele Shan is definitely interesting to me.:)

The one thing that is driving me slightly crazy is that Hutta is listed as Neutral affiliation on its planet Holonet page, and then only three affiliations show up in the biographies.
  • #43 chronium
Well independent is similar enough to neutral, they support there personal agenda not Republics or Siths. Although a little more clarification between the two terminologies for TOR would be nice.

When I think of "neutral," I think "Switzerland" -- i.e. doesn't pick a side. Independent can always be conquered or re-aligned.

This has been bugging me too emlaeh. You'll notice Alderaan, Tatooine, Taris, and Balmorra are all labeled as Independent planets. I think Independent designates the planets that could be contested. Hutta is controlled by the Hutts and would not be contested. Instead, it is labeled neutral.

just so you know you use the html anchor tag to get the links to work so, "<"a href="URL">URL(or whatever you want to call the link)"<"> without the quotes that is.

Part 1: it won't be much of a surprise about arena fights they've been hinting that since they introduced the Mandalorians in the timeline videos.

Part 4: I highly doubt that the buying of different ship parts means customized looking ships, it's more likely just going to be internal parts to the ship. But the story also hints at the military classes getting better quality ships then the smugglers and bounty hunters.

Part 6: They've already mentioned in passing that your ship gets stolen. Elevators were mentioned in the Coruscant walk through demo.

My guess is that Biographies are the foundation to Class specific Professions

  • #39 chronium
I figure it's the foundation for what factions you're going to be trying to get reputation from.
  • #42 Granados
You may be on to something, It makes sense, could the factions be

    Hutts?
    Sith Armada or Navy?
    Jedi Council?

nice assumption kid, never tell me the odds :P
  • #44 chronium
It's not just going to be 3 factions its just split up into Sith, independent and Republic. Some of the factions that we already know in the game are Bounty Hunters guild, the smugglers alliance (I think that's the lore name), Nem'Ro's rival Skadge (if he's still alive that is), the balmoran resistance, etc. A faction is basically any organization that has there own agenda that is not always a benefit or hinderance to the Sith or Republic.

Looks like the Shan girls have always some mother issues, was with Bastila the same...

As nice as the whole lore is, I hope that one day they will eventually start to release worthwhile information about the game itsself, not only its setting...
