Friday Update: Voss

BioWare announced today the twelfth planet included in Star Wars: The Old Republic: Voss.

We're thrilled to announce not only the next planet to be featured in Star Wars: The Old Republic but also a planet never-before-seen in the Star Wars mythos: Voss.

An alien species resides on the mysterious world of Voss and is said to have an incredible aptitude for the Force. These Voss Mystics -- rumored to be enigmatic healers as well as seers -- struggle to protect their utopian society from annihilation.

Discover the secrets of Voss as you are forced time and again to choose between maintaining the appearance of neutrality so important to your leaders or striking against your enemies while you have the chance.

Access the HoloNet records to learn more about the darkness at the heart of Voss. Encounter the narrow trails and wide rock shelves in this video and visit the media section for never-before-seen screenshots, concept art, and wallpapers depicting the madness and despair creeping through the lands.

According to the STAR WARS Essential Atlas, the Independent politically-aligned Voss is located in the galactic northeast Tion Cluster of the Outer Rim, with proximity to the Perlemian Trade Route.

Aurebesh translations of Voss' HoloNet page are as follows:

Subtitle: The Endless War
Vertical, Left Side: The Last Gormak Must Not Die
Vertical, Right Side: Shrine of Healing
Vertical, Text Box Left Side: Nightmare Lands

As a side note, we here at Darth Hater noticed some less than obvious references to the planet in the Returning to Taris video documentary -- there are two instances where Voss water bottles are located on the desks of two people interviewed.

I know this is off topic, but im wondering if anyone actually won anything from the bioware bazaar?
  • #65 Jamis
It ended up that unless you had like 9 or 10k at the very least you couldn't win anything. I only had like 7k and did everything you could to get points. I guess people must have been link trading like crazy or something.

Yea thats what I was thinking to
  • #63 Sleeper
I didn't, but I think Flagg did, those are the only people I knew that played until the end.
  • #64 Korrick
Wow how many points did you end up having I was only at 7333

I'm amazed you guys remembered there were 'Voss' water bottles on the developer's desks!

Do you think those were there on purpose?? Oh god, now I'm going to be searching future videos for ice cubes to see if they're hints about Hoth or other such random junk!

Didn't pick up on much on the other videos, just a few random desk objects.

We've seen a cityscape planet, swampy planets, mountainous planets, snowy planets, desert planets, a forest planet, an industrial wasteland planet, so my point is, where's a lava/molten planet? I'd love to see that somewhere in the game at some point, expansion included.

Ord Mantell appears to be the lava/volcanic planet http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/ord-mantell

About diversive planets: We haven't really seen a snow-planet, since the gameplay on Belsavis seem to take place in these warm, mystical craters that covers the planet.
About lava, there is a screenshot of a base over lava on Ord Mantell, and if I'm not wrong the deepest levels of Coruscant has some kind of lava (though I don't know if you'll be able to go that far down).

There's two type of worlds that I would like to see: A snow planet a la Hoth or Rhen Var, and an Oceanic planet a la Manaan or Dac. Those two kinds of worlds are really beautiful IMHO.

I'm expecting that another icy world will be on its way too. I think Ilum, Csilla, or Rhen Var are good possibilities. Still haven't gotten an ocean world, so Manaan or Dac mentioned before are the leading options for that.

According to "The setting" on SWTOR.com there was a battle on Ilum in the Great Galactic War. And Manaan was also mentioned as having its surface cities bombarded and destroyed. I don't think the Selkath is going to rebuild and accept off-worlders in less than 30 years, so if we're gonna see a water world I bet something else like Dac is a better bet.
    Though you never know!
Never heard of Csilla before, gonna check it on Wookieepedia now.

Yea, I gave this same reasoning on the planet speculation thread on the forums as to why Manaan doesn't seem likely. However, it is from KOTOR I and has a rather unique environment compared to the current planets. Csilla is the homeworld of the Chiss. Mentioned in a few novels and only appears in 2 or 3.
