UK Press Event Round Up

A UK Press event took place during this week revealed quite a bit about the game's classes, trees, and more. Along with the hands on is information about the Advanced Classes, Species, and more. Listed below are links to the various outlets that attended:

Eurogamer: Advanced Classes, Hands on, Video
The Galactic Struggle: Hands on, Interview with Jake Neri
Strategy Informer: Interview with Daniel Erickson
Gamespot: Hands on, Interview with Daniel Erickson
VG247: Interview with Jake Neri
Edge Online: Interview with Daniel Erickson

As a caveat, you might want to read our class speculation article and the chart we made back in December.

Update: New high quality version of the Advanced Classes:

...each Advanced Class will have a further three branches of skills to specialise in (equivalent to World of Warcraft's talent specialisation options on a single class). The first two skill trees are particular to your Advanced Class, while the the third is a shared set of skills which expand on the core abilities of the main class. (Eurogamer)

Note: We will add other articles about the press event as we find them.

I've found a Spanish magazine that has also posted an online review about the UK event.
It doesn't say nothing we don't know about the game itself (they don't even talk about the new species or the advanced class system), but it does say something interesting: according to them the game is in a very early stage, not even close to beta, with suprisingly low graphics and very few NPCs implemented.
Here's the link, in case anyone wants to check it out: http://www.meristation.com/v3/des_avances.php?pic=PC&id=cw4beb2db91d138&idj=cw48fe5b082dd02&idp=&tipo=art&c=1&pos=0

Well I translated the Dutch language one, but my Spanish is no good :p
This one is three pages as well; what you could do is to make a summary of the important new points in the article if there are any.

We heard about the NPC's in another interview, but I think they said they were going to add them shortly...

I could translate all the french / german ones as well ... but ffs :p

http://www.thegalacticstruggle.com/ will be posting their interview with Jake Neri soon.

I really enjoyed that interview. The last question/response was pretty damn funny.

Asked some decent questions, but mostly got reiterations of what will eventually be in the game or hasn't been revealed yet. The Edge interview asked more unique questions, particularly about the development. One of the best I've read so far.

I think we learned more about character customization; how it's not all up front, but you update the look of your character over time. I think that's pretty cool.

    Added to the list.

Here is another interview from Edge
    http://www.edge-online.com/features/interview-daniel-erickson?page=0,0
A couple more nuggets of info- A lot of this interview was about scaling of gameplay.
"you have to let players make a decision and then trace iT 100 hours later"

"The game suffered a minor delay recently. Do you foresee further ones?
We're on track for spring next year. It's about getting those alpha dates, getting all the content in and getting everything tested. "
  • #134 Drenarb
That was actually a really good article to bring to concept what is going on behind the scenes right NOW. We all know that there is some form of testing going on, but to hear what is actually going into the game currently that is being tested on is nice. Also, his comments about what their beta is for is extremely encouraging to me; how it's not to find bugs but for people to tell them if the game is crap or not.

I hope that after all the time they've invested in this game, that it's not crap, and I have a good feeling that it won't be.
  • #137 Danthis
That's very encouraging. That is exactly what a beta should be for, to answer the question, "How can we make this game more fun?"

i was disappointed in the articles that were written on this reveal. it was like all of the articles were all cookie cutter. no depth to their descriptions at all. to bad DH wasnt there. i would at least received an explanation of some the icons that are on the advanced class systems. maybe next time you guys can update us better than this group did

The last part of the Daniel Erickson interview worries me:
"Strategy Informer: One of the key staples of MMOs is the additional content updates that come after release, do you have any idea what kind of theme or direction they will take?

Daniel Erickson: We have not looked at it at all right now, we've got to be focused on just getting the game out of the door. After that, well like I said before, there's a reason we haven't talked about Endgame yet - to talk about Endgame content, we need to know what was fun in normal game. It makes no sense to make more of what people hate."

Does this mean there is no plan yet for a longer perspective of TOR? I mean Blizzard had plans for 5 expansions before the game even launched. They had a more or less clear vision of how the overall story will develope with their Warhammer franchise.
To an extend, does that mean they don't even have end game content yet?

Also in the Jake Neri interview, they ask him if he is concern about BioWare making it's first MMO and that being "their" IP. He said, no and that BioWare has a great experience in making RPGs and adding the MMO part is "probably the easy bit".

Yes, BioWare has shown exceptional stuff so far, story, voice over, combat - it looks great. But that does not make an MMO! and making an MMO that people stay with is hard as hell, just look at AOC, WAR, STO, LOTRO and so on... A MMO has to be more than just a 4 month pleasure of palying each class to maximum level.

If you search around for the GDC content here on DH, then you'll find that endgame and content updates are very, very important to BioWare & LucasArts.
