UK Press Event Round Up

A UK Press event took place during this week revealed quite a bit about the game's classes, trees, and more. Along with the hands on is information about the Advanced Classes, Species, and more. Listed below are links to the various outlets that attended:

Eurogamer: Advanced Classes, Hands on, Video
The Galactic Struggle: Hands on, Interview with Jake Neri
Strategy Informer: Interview with Daniel Erickson
Gamespot: Hands on, Interview with Daniel Erickson
VG247: Interview with Jake Neri
Edge Online: Interview with Daniel Erickson

As a caveat, you might want to read our class speculation article and the chart we made back in December.

Update: New high quality version of the Advanced Classes:

...each Advanced Class will have a further three branches of skills to specialise in (equivalent to World of Warcraft's talent specialisation options on a single class). The first two skill trees are particular to your Advanced Class, while the the third is a shared set of skills which expand on the core abilities of the main class. (Eurogamer)

Note: We will add other articles about the press event as we find them.

If you search around for the GDC content here on DH, then you'll find that endgame and content updates are very, very important to BioWare & LucasArts.

It seems that their talent tree system ascends rather than descends which I always thought made more sense. I also notice that icons to some of the Juggernaut abilities seem to have silhouettes of the character's head. I don't know what you interperate but I see the Juggernaut having some kind of 'presence' ability where they either passively gain aggro or they can buff nearby allies. Also the bar's on either side of the trees indicating your progression down that tree, for me that signals passive buffs that you gain for going heavily down a tree in the same way as the specialization buffs that are going to be introduced to WoW.

Another thing, the image in the eurogamer article has a third tree obscured slightly in the bottom right but it seems smaller. To me it looks like the sith warrior (and thus any base class) will have it's own talent tree before even reaching the advanced class.

From the Eurogarmer article; "The first two skill trees are particular to your Advanced Class, while the the third is a shared set of skills which expand on the core abilities of the main class."

That should answer it for you.

Aaah yes I saw that after I posted. Thx for clarifying though :D

Another thing I noticed is that there are some icons that are the same in both of the Juggernauts tree above. Looks like a skill for blaster deflection to me. In the first Skill Set it's the second from the bottom on the right most column and in the Second Skill set it's the third from the top in the right most column. Stacking blaster defense? :D

Also, that same icon appears to be used over in the Marauder's Second Skill set. While it's not in color, it appears to be the second from the top in the right most column.

I think since class trees are still early in development it's hard to really assess how they'll look when the game comes out. They are probably placing the talent in different trees to see where it fits best.

One of those articles had an add on the side to pre-order SWTOR from amazon. According to the amazon site it will be released Oct 31, 2010. LOL@Amazon, have fun with those angry customers when you have to tell them it will be ready 6 months later.

Has anyone thought that the two skill trees shown for the advance classes are PvE and PvP specific?

I tossed my theory up on the official forums.

Tell me if I'm wrong or not.

Depends what you mean by PvE / PvP specific. What I get from the 2 tree's in the advanced class build is one would be more offensive one would be more defensive. If that means pve/pvp then sure.

To try to clarify- I mean that any XP gained in PvP would be assigned to a pool of points to be spent on the PvP tree, and XP gained in PvE is assigned to a pool of points to be spent in the PvE tree.

Leveling would be a matter of compleating your story arc. If you dont complete your story arc...you dont level.

    Just a theory of mine.

    Absolutely, positively100% incorrect. Sorry.

Our speculation since December is that they are representative of various Damage (Marauder) and Group-Centric Support (Juggernaut) play styles available to the player.

They don't pigeonhole into roles -- they give you customization options for various ones.

I enjoyed the Strategy Informer interview the most, it was very informative and straight to the point. No bull or anything such, feels fresh in the world of mysterious updates.
