Friday Update: Companion Characters, Sith Warrior HoloNet Revamp

As previewed yesterday, another Game Systems menu item appeared this morning: Companion Characters.

Every Star Wars hero needs a companion. Han has Chewie, Luke has R2-D2 -- even Jabba has the cackling monkey lizard Salacious B. Crumb. These characters will compliment your strengths or weaknesses, and provide company for the epic journey you will inevitably undertake. Whether they're combative, friendly, flirtatious, or even just good for a laugh, they always contribute to your development and serve as a sounding board for your choices. In Star Wars: The Old Republic, a variety of these Companion Characters will join your cause.

Learn more about Companion Characters and how they can shape and enhance your game play by visiting the Game Systems section!

Read up on Vette, a female Twi'lek companion you might meet up with in game if you roll a Sith Warrior.

And speaking of the Sith Warrior, the class' HoloNet section is revamped with a new class icon, animations, a different layout, and expanded information:
Wondering how you will be able to customize the Sith Warrior to fit your specific play style? We are excited to confirm the two Advanced Classes for the Sith Warrior: The Juggernaut and the Marauder! Whether you want to charge into the fray as a Juggernaut, punishing your adversaries while protecting your allies, or slice through enemy ranks with two Lightsabers and unmatched aggression, the Advanced Classes system in Star Wars: The Old Republic will give you the power to match your play style.

In conjunction with the Companion Character section released today, we present you with one of the Sith Warrior's Companions -- Vette! You can learn more about this known associate on the Sith Warrior page or by accessing Vette's biography.

Check out the newly updated HoloNet to get details about the Advanced Classes available to the Sith Warrior. Also be sure to visit the media section for a new video featuring the Sith Warrior as well as some screenshots showing the Juggernaut and Marauder in action!

Sean Dahlberg's response to the spoiling aspect of revealing companions:
Solar is correct. As in the Companions section, each class has a completely unique set of Companions. That said, we will not be telling you about each of them right now. Some of them are surprises and might ruin the fun in learning who can and who can't be your companion. The ones we do highlight are generally the companions you will meet early on in your adventures.

And yes, Vette is indeed a companion available for the Sith Warrior.

In the Sith Warrior class video, at approximately 00:25 (right at the beginning) we see a shot of the SW standing on a landing platform in front of a ship. Many have already speculated about whether or not it's "his" ship, but I'm already convinced it is, and that's not what this comment is about.

What I'm curious about is; looking at the ship as closely as possible, it certainly appears to me to have a GUN TURRET mounted on the top towards the aft portion of the ship. Now, while this could be just "eye candy" I'm wondering if it might bode something more significant... I had pretty much resigned myself to the idea that space combat would be too much to ask for in a game with such a massive scope already, but this is causing me to guess again on that issue...

So, I think I may know what next Friday's update is going to be about, and it's very exciting. I'm a bit afraid to divulge it though, for fear of being totally off base, or for getting people in trouble. All, I'll say for now is that I've heard it's going to be a 7-minute video over something many of us have been wondering about for a long time.

Last night i was searching about swtor in google and acidentally found this: http://work.jonathanmoore.com/post/289371558/bioware-star-wars-the-old-republic it looks like a "beta" version of the swtor website, i never saw this before maybe you guys did! The 1st pic as intesting things like "astromech gallery" and holocomm technology, the other things i can't read! Also see the 4th pic were there is a sith with an armor that we already saw in concept art http://www.swtor.com/media/concepts/sith-warrior and also notice is eyes.

Looks like you found the guy who designed the layout of the site. As for your second link it's kind of pointless since those were positions for April and we're in May now.
  • #121 darthuser1186
The 2nd link was to point out that they may have begun testing in a more intensive way, just that.

Not to shift gears too suddenly, but does anyone else think that "Star of Kala'uun" sounds like the name of a ship. Like a pleasure craft of some sort.

EDIT: After further consideration, I've come to the conclution that "Star of Kala'uun" is probably a gem. Considering Vette's criminal background and all. :/
  • #117 RogueJedi86
I don't know if this has any effect on your theory, but Kala'uun is the name of a city on Ryloth. It has a wookieepedia page.
  • #118 Vastori
Well given that Ryloth is the Twi'lek homeworld, I'm leaning more towards the phrase referring to Vette's actions protecting the Ryloth culture and people on Nar Shadda, as mentioned in her biography.

I do hope they have some sort of 'player base' where you can switch out/interact with companions rather than just going to some tab in your character sheet, the way it is now allowing players to have their own little ship (even if not physically flyable apart from instant planet travel) would be a awesome touch to the game.
  • #125 Drenarb
I have a feeling they will have a player base... and I believe we'll get a glimpse of it next Friday in a 7-minute video. ;)

Are these the only confirmed Companion Characters so far?

    Sith Warrior:
    Vette, Twi'lek pirate

    Sith Inquisitor:
Kim Vaal, a Dashade (tank with a large vibroblade!)
Xalek, a Kaleesh Force user (Darth Maul inspired)

    Other possible Companion hints...

    Jedi Knight:
    T7 Astromech unit

    Jedi Consular:
Qyzen Fess, a bloodthirsty Trandoshan hunter

    Smuggler:
    Wookiee companion

    Bounty Hunter:
    Devaronian companion (with broken horn)

    <font color="grey">"intelligent droids"
    "bizarre aliens"
    "honorable princess"
    "roguish pirate"
    "hard-as-nails soldier"
    "gifted battlefield medic"
    "faithful Astromech"</font>

    Anything else out there currently???
  • #104 r2d2arm
Pretty much! The similarity between Darth Malgus' lover and the SW companion is rather interesting. They could have been planning out Vette as a companion much earlier or decided to follow the Deceived trailer's example.
  • #105 JediCosmin
I think you are right. I'm almost convinced that Vette is a romance option, but we'll see.
I kinda like the fact that they added a wookie companion for the smuggler, i mean they are practically repeating a classical experience from the movies :P
  • #122 mikeamendola
I hope the Empire gets a wookie companion I would really like to see an evil wookie lol.
  • #107 r2d2arm
Yea, glad to see Wookiees as companions at least. If they aren't playable, then it will slightly appease those that were wishing to play as a Wookiee.
